Not officially as a release, but there is a beta that works VERY well- far better than my Incredible and the official one, in fact.

Go to Viewsonic's Gtablet site and they have a link page with the Flash apk that works.

I gotta agree that Flash works great on this device even with the beta apk.

Which browser are you using? Did you enable plugins? Is it set on demand or always on? Go into your browser's settings and check it out.

I just press on the Web icon on the pad. I don't think I know what browser name that is. Where would the browser setting be?

sounds like you are using the stock browser. to get into the settings, hit the menu button (the one with 4 white lines) while the browser is open, then select "more", then "settings". to make flash videos load immediately, select "enable plug-ins", then select "always on". i prefer to use "on demand" which does not load flash videos until you click them in the browser, but to each their own.

Open the browser, then click on the menu button on the side of your gtab, which should open up a pop up. Try to find settings, then scroll and find enable plugins.

Is your gtab running a custom rom or stock? If you have the market, I would suggest using Dolphin HD or Xscope for the default browser?

Thanks for all your help everyone. I will go into the settings when I get home - have to work you know - and see if that helps. What is the advantage to the Dolphin or Xscope brousers?

Another quick question. What does 'rooting' your sytem refer to?

Not sure if it's just me, but Xscope and Dolphin seem to play flash better than stock and it renders pages faster. I prefer dolphin because of the UI. Some people think it's too much but I like the gestures and swipe to show bookmarks. Also, I think you can switch from mobile to desktop view a lot easier than the stock browser.

this is a great resource for new android users on the subject of rooting, kind of a long read, but well worth the time.

Rooting - is it for me? Some Q&A | Android Central

in my opinion, you cannot even realize the true potential of any android device without rooting. it allows you to have so many more options of custom operating systems, new features, and apps that i can't even imagine not doing it.

You sure you want to ask this question. It'll lead to the path of possible frustation with the road ending in satisfaction.

If you know how to mount your gtab to your PC and follow instructions...it should be easy peasy.

Rooting sounds a little over my head right now. If this was an old windows operating system I might give it a go. I still can't find the setting for plug ins. My menu key doesn't bring up anything in the browser window. Tried another browser but couldn't get it out of mobile view to PC full size view. Seemed like a better browser but didn't see favorites either.

unfortunately i don't think you can get the official android market on the g-tab without rooting, and the included MobiHand app store leaves a lot to be desired. i wish i could help you more with the browser settings, but i only used the stock operating system long enough to root and install something else, so i am not very familiar with it. if you were to root, you could install the official android market and have access to hundreds of thousands of apps. sounds like right now, you just want a good browser like Dolphin HD, and Google Maps, but even those won't be found in the MobiHand store.

So what is the difference between rooting and installing a custom ROM? I am guessing the installing the custom ROM did the rooting for us? I am running tnt 3.1.4 and custom clemsys kernel. Do I have to worry about the "RickRoll" hack? -->

"Many custom ROMs include some sort of SSH server. This can be a wonderful tool, or it can get you in hot water. This is what caused the whole “Rick-Roll” episode with the latest iPhone jailbreak. The server sits and waits for an outside connection, and if that connection provides the right password full control of the device is turned over. In the case of the iPhone, users never bothered to change the default SSH password for root."

Why in the world does the operating system have to be rooted or othewise altered to get alot of the good apps and work better. Can't andriod put out an update or fix that allows all this to happen without outside "hacking" or other techy alterations. Seems dumb to me

Well... The issue isn't with the Android operating system really. Out of the box, the gtablet didn't come with the full market app and I am not sure it would allow it either. Typically, it's all in the UI put on top of Android. I decided to install TNT Lite and trash that stupid 'tap n tap' that viewsonic installed. It's really easy to do and should only take a newby 2 hours tops. I didn't expressly "root" anything... I just installed clockwork mod recovery app, and then installed tnt lite 3.1, .1,.2,.3, and .4. After that, you have a perfectly normal android tablet that is virtually free of some garbage UI that restricts it's capability. And it's a fast processor at that point!!

it is actually because google has a standing order that the android market cannot be pre-installed on any device without a 3g radio. android is, first and foremost, a phone based OS so it made since in the past. i do feel that this "ban" will be lifted in the future with wi-fi only versions of the xoom and galaxy tab rumored, but who really knows. regardless, i doubt we will see a change for the g-tablet since it was released with the current rules in place.

Interesting...Didn't know that. Now I know why it's not on the gtab OOB, and that does make sense - you guys really know your stuff.

Ok so I currently have an out of the box tablet. What would be my first best step in upgrading what I have? I have not attached my tablet to a PC yet but I assume that the mini USB to normal USB in would accomplish that. What would the next step be?

OK, everybody out there. I have been trying for 3 days to download Dolphin HD or Opera Mini, there is no link in the Android Mkt, that I've seen. I mistakenly dwnld the Dolphin license (whatever that is?).

I've tried to dwnld the browsers on my laptop and everytime I go to Dwnld. I get a blank page. Anybody else have this problem?

If anyone out there is word processing on the Gtab? I'm finding it really difficult using Ofc. Suite, it's aggravatingly, frustrating to work on. Any hints appreciated!

Thanks in advance to all, running VEGAn Tab ( thanks to Orange & omr).

Also might want to look at Documents To Go, full word and excel editor. You will need the paid version to edit, but it is only $14.99 so it is not too expensive (used to be $29.99).

Just wish Microsoft would wise up and make an Outlook for Android!

If anyone out there is word processing on the Gtab? I'm finding it really difficult using Ofc. Suite, it's aggravatingly, frustrating to work on. Any hints appreciated!

Thanks in advance to all, running VEGAn Tab ( thanks to Orange & omr).
Hey Cal!

This all part of the Android learning experience. I told you how you jumped from basic to intermediate Android when you rooted your Gtab. Downloading from the market on your Gtab should be fairly easy where you don't need to use a laptop. My suggestion is to read the description of the app that you are wanting to download before downloading it. Sometimes, the full description is not visibile until you hit the "more" button on the app summary. Also, did you perform the market fix on your gtablet? You might not be getting all the apps which can cause more confusion.

Here's the market fix instructions. I copied this from one of Rothnics (XDA) threads.

Quick Market Fix (Follow Exactly):
1) Run market
2) Open settings->applications->system applications
3) Force close Google Services Framework, then Force Close Market
4) Go back to Google Services Framework, then clear data
5) Run market and confirm you get an error
6) Reboot
7) Wait 2 minutes and try Market to get all applications
8) If this doesn't work, look at the directions again and make sure you follow them exactly

If you really want to keep things as stock as possible, the enhancement patch that is listed on the thread below would be ideal. It'll keep your stock recovery, Tnt UI, etc but will add google apps and enhance the speed of your device.

I'm not sure what Tnt firmware you are running because there are a couple of enhancement patches you can download.

The downloads should be in an update.zip and recovery folder format since you will not need clockwork recovery to install this patch.

Can anyone tell me if I have to rename the tnt lite .rar before copying it on to my Gtab? I tried once to rename but it corrupted the file. Will it work as is?

Are u using clockwork to install because clockwork only installs zip files? If u unzip that rar file you'll see the update.zip file, put that on ur sd and navigate in clockwork to install that update.zip.

I am using clockwork - I got it in and I can see that it is a great little utility. When I screwed up the first attemt at flashing the tnt rom I had a backup to re install of the stock and that was great. What confuses me to no end is that the .rar file is compressed (which I never heard of that extension until I started in on this) but if and when you can unzip this file - I am downloading 7-zip which I hope works - you end up with a file that is still .zip!! That means I have an unzipped file that is still .zip? Jeeeez

winrar will extract a .rar file, free trial here: WinRAR download and support. WinRAR is a powerful Windows tool to compress and decompress zip, rar and many other formats: Homepage

you are correct though. extract the tnt_lite_4.2.0.rar to get a file called update.zip and a recovery folder. move both to your SD card and load the .zip file in clockwork.

Do you actually need the recovery folder to flash? I think I actually did VEGAn without it and have never had to use it when loading a rom on the Hero or Evo.

pretty sure you need it with stock recovery, but not with clockwork.

Yup you only need the recovery folder when using the stock recovery since gtab is pretty much unlocked. I love it!

That is what I thought, so I did VEGAn without and it worked fine.
