Default Rooting the F3 with Motochopper

I was able to root my F3 using this method that I found in the Optimus F7 forum. I went to the LG site and downloaded the drivers first. Really simple. I just wanted to let people know that it works.

Just placed this phone on order.

I see some are using Motochopper to root this phone.
Does it place replace the stock recovery with CWM?

I always like to root my phone to have total control over it, but want to make sure that CWM is also installed on it in case of any oops.

There is no official custom recovery for this device yet. Ive seen other post if you go straight to recovery after rooting. It may get black screen. And can factory reset on its own. So dont attempt until we all see the official recovery..

Has anyone rooted the phone before activation?
Did it work?
IIRC some phone would not activate after being rooted.

My phone is here and I'm trying to root it so I can transfer all my data from TiB and I'm not getting access for some reason.

I finally found on LG site drivers for Virgin Mobile. Installed them, even rebooted the computer.
Have the phone set to USB debugging.
Turned off firewalls and anti virus programs.
This is what I get when trying to run motochopper.

Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Make sure you download the right driver model for you exact phone. And make sure your computer can detect/roconize your device. Amd than run motochop over n over til it works. It happen to me and i have to do it like 3 or 4 time..

Just wondering if this indeed confirmed working etc.
The reason I ask, is that in the root sticky, there is no link for a root guide.
Let me know and I can add this thread to the sticky's guide

Had the wrong driver at first. Mine rooted on the first try. I rooted it after activating the phone. Yes it works.

I'm having some trouble rooting using this method. It keeps saying "adb is not recognized as an internal or external command, executable program," and something else i dont remember. Any ideas on how to make it work?

Did you download the driver from LG's site?

Sorry for not providing more info in the OP. I really don't know much. I just noticed that this method worked for a lot of LG phones so I tried it out. Just wanted to pass it along.

Yeah, downloaded the drivers, downloaded two different motochoppers, and spammed the you-know-what out of the run.bat lol. It recognizes the device, adb just doesnt want to be recognized. Do i have to pull the motochopper folder out of the zip or no? Thanks for the help

EDIT: It worked, i just had to pull the folder out of the zip lol

Um yeah you definitely have to extract the files first.
Motochopper worked for me instantly on the first try.

Motochopper worked wonderfully. I just got the f3 today (virgin mobile), and started my customization process (beginning with rooting) right after activating.

If you ran the run.bat file, you MUST unzip the files first...then it should work. Hope that helped.

I got superuser downloaded from the motochopper, however it still doesn't seem to let me move any applications to the sd card! The little button that is supposed to pop up on the info of the apps I can and want to move isn't there. Please help

Rooting alone will not give you the ability to move apps to the external SD. You can install Link2SD and partition your SD card as the instructions specify, this will let you move non-system apps to the second partition. There are several threads discussing the use of this app, here's two and there are more-

I just rooted my Optimus F3 using Motochopper on my Mac. The initial "see if it will work with this device" step went smoothly:
HTML Code:

* daemon started successfully *

Then, when I tried to do the actual rooting, I got this...
HTML Code:
> sudo ./run.sh

(For the record, I did NOT need to download any drivers; motochopper.zip contained everything that was needed.)

Thanks Guys! That was way to easy. It did it on the first try, no drivers needed etc. Took a whopping 2 min including download time of the tool.

Any idea if there is DEV going on for this phone yet?

Is there anyway to root the F3 without a computer, just on the phone? Possibly like a one click method?

We have an unbrick method anyways so if you're worried about bricking then don't.

This topic goes into detail on how to root:
Edit: I guess I'm not allowed to post links yet, but the topic is in this same exact board and is called "Root and CWM - EASY how-to guide for noobs"

You only have to follow it up to step 6 unless you want to add the recovery too.

Hello,

For some reason I am not able to find the location for motochopper. Does this not exist any longer? I just got my phone and would like to root.

Also, rooting will not effect bluetooth connectivity.

Default Had to use Kingo

After the firmware update, I was unable to use motochopper. I got recent drivers from LG site, then used Kingo one-click root (kingoapp dot com). Worked on first try.
