Unhappy What is your 3G speed on Virgin?

I know the speed fluctuates, but the 3G speed is disappointing. Virgin mobile, which I though runs on spring, is only getting 0.33 Mbps down and 0.38 Mbps up. I live 3 miles from a sprint tower, and there are 3 within 25 miles of me.

What speeds are you guys getting, and how close are you to a sprint tower??

Also, at night I get 0.91 Mpbs down, which is the highest. Is this normal? What do I need to do?

Thanks!

At least your getting some data service.. I bought the phone yesterday and have not been able to connect to the 3g network once.. Ive called customer service twice and the first time he reset my account and I reset my phone, the second time, this morning, the lady just told me that its basically down and should be back up in a few days..??

I've been using 3G since last night, its slow, but usable. I guess it depends on where you live. When I activated my phone, she told me to press the "activate" button.

0.13 Mbps down
0.24 Mbps up
686 ms ping

At least you got an estimated completion time. Every call I've made to them they can never give me a time frame.. I hope they get it fixed this time....

A few days...
Lost 3G service each of the two previous afternoons. To get it back up, I used the activate app, get a failed screen and then cycle airplane mode on and off. After that 3G comes back on.

I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering. Hopefully they are optimizing their network and we can have faster 3g connections!

I read on a sprint forum they are getting 2-3 Mbps down... ridiculous!

It is too good to be true. I had to drop virgin mobile and go with at&t. I need reliable mobile internet access like I need water. Now I am just waiting for my htc inspire to come in the mail.

In Minneapolis, MN during busy times(5-10pm) I get 400-1000kbps down 300-500kbps up with 150-250 ping, during off hours(after midnight and prior to 4pm weekdays) I get 1600-2600kbps down 500-700kbps up with 150 ping average. Sprint has very good 3g coverage in the twin cities so I think that definitely has something to do with it, I do get data drops from time to time during peak hours but I get reconnected in a few minutes normally.

This thread is making me reconsider my decision, I will wait for a month to see if this 3G situation improves for me. If not, I may just switch back.

OMG 0.9 Mbps down!!!!! 0.5 Mbps up!!!!11!1 @ 6:37 PM. maybe it will get better after all.

I'm new to smart phones, so can someone tell me how to see what my 3G speeds are (when VM 3G is actually working, that is)? Do I need to get an app, or is the info somewhere in the phone, and if so, where?

Default speedtest

I am in South Western Missouri, and I have been having issues with 3g for about 2 weeks, where it will be working one hour, and the next be done. Only fix for this I have found is switching from Airplane mode, then back. I am connected to 3g about 60% of the time, I can tether to my laptop, and even play a little xbox live, but ping is bad, but what can I expect from 3g wireless cell internet lol.

So yesterday I claimed that my 3G was very slow (which it was) but it was stable and I did not receive any drops in connections. Well, today my 3G dropped like 5 times... in 4 hours. It says connected but I cant do anything internet related.

Now its slow and unreliable, best of both worlds.

I think I'll call them tomorrow morning and see if I can get this fixed. Maybe I didnt activate it right, the guy above me is getting 2.3 mbps, which is just a little slower than my landline dsl .

I'll report back if its fixed.

Well today was the best day 3G has been behaving for a while. It did not drop once, I turned off the auto sync data in the data settings this morning, dont know if this was the reason, feel free to try and report back.

I got 1.3 mbps earlier today around noon, which is the highest it has ever gotten. It almost feels as if the problem is fixed..

I've been getting around 1.4 to 1.9Mbps down and around .33Mbps up for the last few weeks that i've had the phone. I've got to admit i was getting a lot of 3g drops like everyone else but for the last 4-5 days its been pretty good with only one drop. I live in New Port Richey, Fl

I also only have 2 bars where i've been testing.

I found that the speed test isn't very "stable." It all depends on which server you use. Wichita, KS always screws me over... Columbus works well.

Just ran a test yesterday and clocked in at 1.18Mbps Down and 442kbps up. I did have some 3G connectivity issues when I first got the phone a week ago, but for the past several days I haven't had a problem.

Hello all,
I am new here. I am a future Vigin mobile customer and LG Optimus V owner. I have read alot of posts on here and still will take the plunge when my contract with other carrier is up. I wanted to ask if anyone on here is around the Toledo Ohio area and if so, what kind of call reception and 3g service do you get. Thanks

THAT SPEED IS NOT POSSIBLE! Theoretical MAX on CDMA EVDO REV A is 3.1mbps! (and even some of that is reserved for tower overhead)....

I did a few speed tests this week....

Charleston, South Carolina

Signal at my place where i tested is usualy 75%

First Test (done around 9am): 0.00 Mbps Down, 0.31 Mbps up

Second Test (done next day in the evening around 5pm): 0.00 Mbps Down, 0.33 Mbps up

Third Test (done the day after around lunch time): 0.01 Mbps Down, 0.36
Mbps up

Looks like they are making some amazing progress to their network!!!

Using Wi-fi: 3.32 Mbps Down, 0.36 Mbps up

I am also using the speedtest.net app, how can i post my results on this forum? I find the 0.00 mbps download result to be hilarious!

But hey, you get what you pay for, and tbh getting unlimited text adn data for 35$ is the best deal i think

To post the Speedtest images, you need to go in to your Speedtest app, tap on results, tap on the one you want an image for and when it opens look up at the top right corner. You'll see a tiny envelope and a tiny trash can. Tap on the envelope and choose where you want it sent (I would choose Gmail... send it to yourself). Then go check your Gmail and there will be a link in there to the image file. Copy the link and then here on the forums use the Insert Image button at the top of the posting window (you see that option from a PC).

If you are posting from your cell phone, do not forget to wrap the image tags around the url link of the image. Opening image tag at the front of the url link, and closing image tag at the end of the url link. It should look like this except without spaces:

It's funny the majority of speeds are very close to each other, then you see these BS speeds some users are getting, and they only have 1 post total.
