Near field communication (NFC) is a set of standards for smartphones and similar devices to establish radio communication with each other by touching them together or bringing them into close proximity, usually no more than a few centimetres. Present and anticipated applications include contactless transactions, data exchange, and simplified setup of more complex communications such as Wi-Fi.[1] Communication is also possible between an NFC device and an unpowered NFC chip, called a "tag".
Not worth giving up a grandfathered $25. plan for. I'll just pick up another Triumph for a decent price and upgrade the Optimus V for that and keep my GF plan.

You don't loose your $25 plan if you upgrade to this phone. I'm not sure about the 4G phone coming out end of month, but per a phone call to VM, 4G will cost the same.
"Beginning May 27, 2012 if you are using the $25, $40, or $60 Beyond Talk plan and you upgrade to a Beyond Talk Smartphone launched after May 1, 2012*, you will need to switch to the $35, $45, or $55 Beyond Talk plan.
When you switch plans, you will need to pay for your new plan and you will lose any minutes, messages, and money in your balance. This will also change your monthly payment date. So if you are considering upgrading to a new smartphone, we recommend that you wait until right before your next monthly payment date to activate.
*The following smartphones launched before May 1, 2012 and are therefore not subject to the new device upgrade rules at this time: Venture, LG Optimus Slider, HTC Wildfire S, Motorola Triumph, LG Optimus V, Blackberry Curve 8530."
Wow you lose any money in your balance? This is getting horrible. As soon as my balance is gone I think I am going to T-Mobile or straight talk even with as much as I hate Walmart

Maybe the news hasn't hit here yet, but the LG Optimus Elite was added to the phones you can swap a $25 plan to if you do it by the 19th or 20th. A new text is coming out regarding the plan change on the 20th at which time you will no longer be able to add the elite per reps I talked to today.
FYI, I went to BB today and picked one up for $129.99 (Wally World $149.99) and have added it to my $25 plan. I just checked my account on VM and it shows the Elite as my phone, currently on $25 plan, and next bill is $25.
I am charging it now and just got done activating it. Have yet to text, call, or use the GPS yet so I have no status report, other than to let people know you can grab the Elite NOW and swap and be grandfathered.
My initial assessment is that it is snappier and the slightly larger screen is noticeable. For $130, it was well worth it, if the GPS and radio are equivalent to the OV, which is the VM benchmark in my opinion.

After comparing the specs between the Motorola TRIUMPH and the LG Optimus Elite, if you are willing to root and flash CM7 I see little reason if any to choose the Elite over the TRIUMPH. Even if you don't have a grandfathered in plan.
So, has anyone tried running Netflix or HBOGO on the Optimus Elite? I am considering upgrading from an OV now that we can keep the $25 plan (according to the previous poster). I assume it should run better since it has a faster processor, but you know what happens when you assume something.
I just went down to BB 2 hours ago and bought the phone one sale for $129.99 and took the risk of losing my $25 plan. Once activated I checked online and my bill is still set at 25$ for next month. Anyways to make sure I called VM and they in fact told me my plan is staying at $25 dollars. Just wanted to make it clear to anyone that had any confusion. Loving the phone so far!!!
Thanks a lot for the confirmation of keeping $25 plan. You are the first
one that I read providing info based on the fact!!!
However, someone also speculated that after May 27, there is still little
chance that your plan is still going up since you are using new phone (even
if you don't swap phones anymore)
Did VM person confirm on that?
Thanks,
SZ

The rep did in fact confirm that on 6/04/2012 (My billing date) I would be charged the $25 dollars. That is the main reason I called! I'm very happy with the phone and would highly recommend it.
Thanks, I am getting one. There are not many choices of phones to
keep current $25 plan.
Triumph is nice. But the battery drains down too quickly. Heading
BB today

I asked VMUSA if I have a $25 a month plan and an Elite and have to replace the Elite for warranty reasons or whatever after 27th May if my plan would change to $35 and this was the reply.
