Apparently Samsung, Virgin Mobile USA and Boost Mobile will be coming together to hold an event to reveal some "big mobile news". Some speculate that they'll bring the Galaxy S3 to the prepaid carriers. While I think that's unlikely, nothing surprises me nowdays when it comes to the mobile world.

My guess would be either the Epic 4G or the Galaxy SII. I don't see an announcement for an LTE phone for Boost or VM this year. Though, to make it "exciting", perhaps they will have Jellybean preloaded.
Won't be the s3 since the phone doesn't support WiMAX.It's either a brand new phone or they will officially announce the s2 for boost and maybe a different phone for vm.imo it wouldn't make sense for them to make new phones for boost and vm but who knows
Is it possible that they could announce the nexus s? I never understood why we couldn't have the cdma nexus s anyway. It's old enough, but it's still a nexus, so I'd be happy at around $250 for it. Just being hopeful I suppose.

Hmm. I now am curious. What on earth could they announce for both Sprint based prepaid carriers? Yes it's a new phone. Is it simply new to us or is it a newer phone? Or is it even a phone at all?

this........im starting to wonder is it even a phone...
Maybe we could get the Note? I can dream right? But I wonder how much that would cost...
If you guys really want a good selection of phones you should go with tmobiles prepaid..you buy any tmobile phone you want..the galaxy note...sgs3..one s...gnex..s2..buy a 99 cent T-Mobile sim card...and sign up for a prepaid plan ad low as 30 dollars a month..and enjoy a high end device...with way better coverage and speeds then sprint..and still pay nickels each month

But how much data does that come with? And how much is it after tax?
The problem some people have with the t-mobile plan is the lack of minutes on the high data plan, you get 100 or 200 minutes and a bunch of GB of data, or you can have a bunch of minutes and barely any data.
I'll stick with vmobile and my texting impaired EVO V for now.

I would but I barely use my phone and I still go over 100 mins

I was going to go with TM but they don't have HSPA+ in my area yet and their S3 doesn't support LTE. So that means I need to spend big bucks on a phone that can't support the network they are rolling out in 2013 and I doubt they will roll HSPA+ out to new areas after that.

I'm wondering if it may be roaming. I doubt it, since everyone could just jump ship to pre-paid then but it seems like they could offer it for something like 50c-$1 per minute and people would be really happy just because it covers them for things like auto breakdowns. I wish they'd do that.

Interesting idea... But why would Samsung be involved? I think it's got to be new hardware.

I had another thought. What if it's a Samsung tablet that runs on Virgin's 3G network? Nearly every major carrier has tablets that run on their networks, and maybe Virgin wants to compete in that space.
Another thought: Windows Phone. What if Samsung is announcing a Windows Phone device for Virgin? That's pretty exciting considering that TMo is the only prepaid carrier with a Windows device, and a relatively low end one at that.

The beauty of T-Mobile prepaid is you can use pretty much any T-Mobile phone. In fact, you can use any GSM phone, though if you want 3G it needs to support 1700Mhz.
And all Windows phones currently are "low end", at least until they start releasing the Windows 8 phones.

Yes, people tend to forget that any extra minutes are merely charged at $.10/minute. While not a great price per minute, combined with a $30 plan it can work out well, if you just need an extra 100 minutes or so.
In my case, I use Google Voice and GrooveIP to extend my minutes when I am connected to WiFi.

Long as I can keep my $25 plan and VM doesn't give me flack for using twice the cap limit each month, ill have no choice to keep the OV.
but you sure could see me turning a Nexus or S3 into a WiFi cell with google voice. Looks cool to carry more then one, [keep the OV on the hip.] I need to get one for app dev soon. be nicer if it was a VM approved phone. when they will sulry force upgrades in a yr or two and I have to change phones.
Unfortunately, any new VM news has mostly become irrelevant to me since they stopped allowing new phone models on the $25 plan, so I'm stuck with my Triumph for now. Once the Triumph becomes inadequate for my needs, I'll probably switch to the T-Mobile $30 plan.

If it's JUST a tablet, I don't see that as big news at all really. Although sure, it would be nice.
Metro PCS is getting the Galaxy SIII in Sept, and Net 10 is getting the Galaxy SII, so I don't see why Virgin Mobile won't be getting one or the other.
There were rumors of it being the Galaxy Reverb, but VM's Facebook said to someone "we are not getting that phone". Usually if they are getting a phone, they say "we don't have any info". So the Reverb is ruled out.
My money is on the GS3 for VM, GS2 for Boost(since there was a recent sheet that showed a new GS2 with "BST" at the end of the model number)

Very excited.
Samsung is all over the place. They are adding a bunch of mid-range Android phones to various carriers. Even Tracfone is getting one.

I can't see VM getting the S3, if for the simple reason that VM is not going to get an LTE phone. So my guess would be the S2, since it is a Wimax device.
