There's tutorials online on how this is done. Just Google it.

Figured it out and here is a quick ref for anyone who wants to know.

Requirements: - USB Debugging: ON - Root Access
Terminal Emulator
Or PC

Enter terminal emulator or shell and enter one of the follow options.

To enable media scanning on boot: su
pm enable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver

To disable media scanning on boot: su
pm disable com.android.providers.media/com.android.providers.media.MediaScannerReceiver

Reboot into recovery wipe cache/dalvik cache to remove previous scanner cache files. Reboot and profit.

Be forewarned that this _does_ disable media scanning, so any music/pics/videos need to be in the specified default android folders to be recognized by apps (ie: music app).

I use quickpic it apparently has its own scanner and cache system but yeah for those using stock gallery please ensure your media is in its proper default folder.

These are the two ways that I have used in the past, they both work. Im not sure about your mms issue though and how that relates to media scanner.
How to disable media scan on Samsung Galaxy S - YouTube
ANDROID Media Scanning (How-To Enable & Disable) - YouTube
Quickpix is fine as you can specify the directory, he ws referring to the stock app that he installed. I think it was called ICS Galllary, I removed this and put quick pic on. I use miui for music but it wasnt updating, I probably have to put the tracks somewhere else. Spq0 could you indicate what those default directories are and if its possible to alter them in config. I also have noted the character set in spanish is nerfed for letters with the squiggglllyyy thing above.

Default Stock Eq Sound Boost/Mod

SPZ0

Could you also post a link to that old stock EQBoost Mod that you posted before. The one that worked on stock but not on 2.3.6.

Thanks

Hey do you have a deodexed stock copy of the systemui and framework from 2.3.6? I'd love to get a hold of it. Having issues recompiling systemui because of some xml errors in the themed version of the rom. Thanks in advance.

Hi SPz0 the GPS mystery was eventually solved or at least uncovered. It appears the phone is set to run in network mode and not in hot boot mode which was why it wouldnt work for so long.

I havent been able to find this menu in your rom, is it there or are you going to implement it at somepoint, no one with this device or probbaly many other samsung devices would be able to use the device off the network in hotboot mode. Theres also an Angry GPS out there somewhere. I dont know why Samsung use this lbstestmode over gpsone, maybe a license issue. You can select gps one to run in all modes.

If not do you know where these settings are stored. They are there somewhere because when you flash EH29 instead other roms, dynamic accuracy is turned off and set to 30 meters.

Default LBstest mode

Ive found two lbstest modes here. One installs one doesnt. May be you have to adb install the other to system - if you do backup with clockworkmod first. My antenna is not working so i cant test them at the moment. If some of you could install this and try and see if it works, maybe we could post one for this device.

Holy Shyte, just what I been looking for!!! A non-buggy 2.3.6 w/ root and adjustable OC! Thank you sooo much. I was getting disheartened. I tried almost every custom 2.3.6 on the forum for a couple days, and each one had something about it that was buggy, or that I plain didn't like. NOT THIS ROM, I'm totally in love with it! I was gonna stick with monster 4 because after trying and trying 2.3.6, I was ready to throw in the towel. Monster 4 is great and stable as hell, but I really wanted the overclock feature for Mupen64. This morning I was like,"lemme give one more look" and that's when I stumbled upon this rom. Absolutely flawless, stable-not a single bug found after running every feature and app, smooth, highly customizable, [B]2.3.6!!![B], Love both boot animations, Fast as hell when you want it to be & a battery-life-saver when you want it to be... I don't know what else to say! After a lot of searching I finally found one that's a keeper. I was honestly surprised to see that everything works as it should, after trying so many other 2.3.6 roms with something fishy about them... not to trash talk the developers of those--I know that they put A LOT of work into their roms, and I wouldn't even know where to begin to make one myself. Theirs just wasn't for me. This one IS! THANKYOU!!!

Just remember that this is based off the generic 2.3.6 update, not the official MPCS update. Its still a awesome Rom though! Glad you found the Rom you really like!

Yes you can. But you must flash the Metro PCS MMS fix in order to send and receive picture messages and get 3G data. Read the instructions carefully!

Actually, I was gonna ask if there's a way to boost 3g with this rom. Like I've stated before: this rom is the $#!+. But, I did the fix and installed this rom perfectly to the T, but still don't get 3g. I thought it was inherent in the rom, since I didn't notice any 3g booster in the list of additions from the rom post. Is there an additional add-on/ download I'm missing? Is there another back door to achieve this end? I know that it's not my location, because with the stock rom I would get 3g once in a while at least. Not often, but once in a while. Then again, I've only flashed this less than a week ago, so what do I know? Any help on this would be da bomb!

You used the preinstalled apn app to restore the APNS right? Have you tried dialing *228 and pressing 5 when prompted?

What??? I've never even heard of this! Shows how much I know-- is there a tutorial thread with details/steps on how to execute this technique? In what file do I find the apn app? I've checked my system and data app files, but didn't find anything named "apn" You're not talking about the ap tethering app (which I LOVE BTW), right? I'm in the dark here!

I tried *228, but didn't quite understand what to do with the automated system:""open an account -1, switch phone -2, add phone line -3, change phone # -4, change roaming list -5??? pressed 5, then it said "updated roaming list" and then it restarted my phone... but doesn't look like it did much for the 3g.

still just getting "1x" with 2-3 bars. Does the open android system have a "3g" in the notification bar when it's hooked up? Cuz all I get is 1x.

ok, I did a search through root manager, and all I came up with was /mnt/sdcard/ApnBackupRestore/oa-metropcs-apn-fix.xml AND /etc/apns-conf-xml. I know that's not an app. what am I missing? maybe I didn't install the fix perfectly as I thought I did? I followed the instructions perfectly, and I don't get market error notifications or nuthin, so wassup? Where should I go from here? Should I backtrack? any tutorials or tips would be awesome!

Alright I've read almost all of the comments and posts on this topic, didn't find any answer to my problem.

After a lot of troubleshooting I was finally able to get Odin to recognize my phone in download mode. (Driver issue.) I successfully installed CWM, but it was version 5.0.2.7. Someone in this topic posted that 5.0.2.4 is needed to install the ROM, but in the OP there is a link to 5.0.2.8. I went with the OP's suggestion and tried to flash back over CWM for the newer version. I get an installation error

E: Can't open /sdcard/blah blah blah.zip
(bad)
Installation aborted.

which, if I understand right, suggests that the .zip file is bad. But that can't be the case because everyone else has been using the same files as me. Not only can't I install the newer version of CWM, but the same error occurs when I try to flash the ROM. I've made sure that I was choosing "zip from sdcard", I've toggled signature verification over and over, and I've tried just installing as "update.zip". I AM rooted (duh) I always get the same error. I've let the "new" CWM OS settle, as some people seem to suggest doing, for over 10 hours with no luck.

The only thing I haven't done is do a firmware update, but from what I can tell this doesn't usually matter. I really don't want to loose all my applications, but I made a backup so I guess I could try.

Okay dude, I'm at a wedding, this is from my phone, so I gotta be quick!: this worked for me: follow the back to stock 2.3.6: {[*CWM BACKUP*]} 2.3.6 Back to stock! Then follow the upgrade to 5.2.8 in this link: Android^admirer*new 2.3.6 rom* android+lithium overclocked Then follow the instruction on this thread. That should do it.

Ok, there is a app that come preinstalled with OA 2.3 called APN Backup Restore. Find it and hit "Restore APNs." If you can't find it, I pulled it from OA and uploaded it for you com.riteshsahu.APNBackupRestore-1.apk - 32.29 KB

Ok, download cwm 5.0.2.8 (not the kernel) from this post and make sure you downloaded it fully. Flash it and you'll be on CWM 5.0.2.8 I think you're not downloading it fully.

Same thing like I said above, I don't think you are downloading the files fully. What OS are you using? Browser? Whats your download speeds like?

There's an inclusive app called apn back up and restore. Open the application and select restore apn. You'll select the included apn and it and let it restore then reboot and profit. If you're still having issues after reboot select settings/wireless network/mobile network and make sure its set to automatic.

Same thing like I said above, I don't think you are downloading the files fully. What OS are you using? Browser? Whats your download speeds like?
Sweet I got .2.8 working. I tried to install OA but I got the same (bad) error as before. (I assume I don't need to go through the Lithium ROM's instructions now) I'm going to try re-downloading the OA ROM.
I'm running on Firefox. I get ~200MB/S on a wifi connection. I checked the sizes of the files before, but I'm paying closer attention to the download process this time. If it fails again I'll try it on Chrome and IE, if that doesn't work I'll let you know. Thanks for your help!

EDIT====
it flashed correctly! oh this ROM is so sexy. Thanks!

Well, I'm back with something else...
Wifi sometimes doesn't stay on. I have "always on" selected in the advanced settings of the wifi settings.
Also, equalizer applications do not work. They say that my hardware doesn't support equalizers, which is false as I've used equalizers in the past.

Ah, that did it. You guys are the shit! I think I deleted the apn app, cuz I didn't know what it was for, and thought I didn't need it. I thought wrong... 2gigaytesd- way to go above and beyond for posting the app for me. Got the 3g boomin now! Aaand 6leinad6, sorry about the rigamaroo. It worked for me, but didn't realize that you had a vitality. Also I should've mentioned that I'm a newbie. I saw an opportunity to help, and I've received so much help, so I guess I just wanted to contribute. But I guess at this point, I'll keep my tips to myself-- kinda like the blind trying to lead the blind! Glad the pros helped you out, though.

Could be a problem with the router you are connecting to... what brand is it?

Haha don't worry about it. Tips are tips, doesn't matter if they work or not they are helpful.

I've got an Actiontec (through Quest) router.

Ah, yes... The firmware may be to blame. ActionTec routers are known to have firmware that will shutoff the connection and reconnect it almost simultaneously. But overall they are good routers.

The Physical Environment of the router could also be the cause.

Quote:
The physical environment in which your router stands can prevent you from staying connected. Common household items and building materials can interfere with the signal that comes off of the router, making it drop out or create slower speeds. Metal objects, like refrigerators, and thick walls made of brick or concrete are common culprits.

It could also be Wireless and Radio Interference;

Quote:
Many of the devices in your home can prevent a strong, stable wireless connection. Wireless devices like cordless phones and garage door openers often jam the signal, making it flicker or die. Less obvious devices like microwaves, lights, Bluetooth devices, game controllers and fluorescent lights also emit frequencies that disrupt Wi-Fi services.
And like I said, Firmware could also be the cause:

Quote:
When your wireless router is unable to maintain a steady connection with the router, outdated firmware is often to blame. If you don't have the latest version, the router will not be able to perform to its full capability. When Actiontec releases a new firmware version, it is available on the product page on the Actiontec website. After downloading the new version, you will need to login to the router management screen and follow the prompts to install the firmware. (By default its admin with no password)

Then again, the wifi chip in the Admire/Vitality isn't the best, so that may be it too...

Hate to be a pain in the ass about the 3g, but after giving it some time, the 3g is very in and out. More out than in, at that. Is there no way around this? I'm stuck with 1x most of the time. I do the apn restore, then it goes to 3g for just a few minutes, then back to 1x. I was ready to give up on the concept of 3g, but thought I'd give you guys a holla before totally giving up on it. Any suggestions or info?

Oh, and I also did the *228, and the "automatic" selection. In fact I tried all types of combinations between"roaming, cricket only, and automatic" only to come up with the same results.

Well... That sounds like a tower problem. What's your signal strength on 3G and on 1X?

When I get 3g, it's somewhere between 1+2 bars... On 1x, I'm at 3-4 bars.

Tracking Global Data Outages (Beta)
There is a verified outage in that area
With a massive infrastructure fail like after sandy there are probably some service issues in the PCS network in The Bronx. I used to work for sprint and there was a hurricane in SC while I worked there it took about a month for full bandwidth to be restored to all tower outputs there. (virgin, cricket, metro, boost and a few others piggyback)

Okay, that would explain it... But just to be certain that it's not something that I'm doing wrong: I do the apn restore, which includes: "OpenVitality-MMS-Fix.xml" & "OA-MetroPCS-APN-FIX.xml" Then it'll go to 3g for like a few minutes, then back to 1x. Then I'll do the whole *228 bit, the pone reboots aaaand nada. Then I try all types of combinations of "Mobile Networks Settings" and still zilch. So if I'm missing something in terms of procedure, or correct APN, or WHATEVER, please let me know so I can try to fix my ignorance! But if I'm not missing anything, then it's prolly the whole Sandy/ f*'d up 3g service. Thanx for your help!

Lastly, I gave the AP hotspot a whirl, and even tried the usb tethering. My computer itself says that it's actively connected to a network, but when I try to open any websites (even just google) I get some notification on my computer from metro saying that I was uncompatable for that service or some junk like that. (but then the bastards have a link to read their terms and conditions of service, and the tether works for that link!) I read Spz0's notice saying that cricket (I guess another term for metro) actively blocks tethering... So my question: is there a way to fiddle with the settings to get around this? I would love to be able to access this feature if possible. Mostly for when I go upstate w/ friends, to enable wifi on the wii to get netflix in the hotel room!! (we go to the bootleg hotel w/o wifi-it's cheaper than the one across the highway and we mostly are just getting crunked up and bbq'ing when we're at the hotel anyway!!!)

Cricket is another carrier that is similar to Metro. You can download a agent switcher for your browser and change your user-agent to Android. What that does is makes metro think a Android phone is accessing its network, when really its your desktop/laptop Chrome and Firefox have agent switchers, idk about IE (I would think so). Just google Agent Switcher for <your browser> and find one you like and download
