Hi everyone! Long time no see
Bobdamnit is officially one of the people who you know keeps in contact with me. What he says is good information, take it as you would if I spoke it.
I am really more of a XDA updater now, as I dont have time to update more than one thread. The link to my thread is here: [ROMS] [Tutorials] [CDMA RUU's] Team MarvelUSc - xda-developers

Also, bob's link to the HTC Unlock is now the prefered way to unlock. Rooting can be done afterwards with various methods. (For now, root is on the way!)

Again, If you'd like to support me, please follow these steps:

1) Be Logged-In to PayPal
2) Go to: https://www.paypal.com/sendmoney?email=simon@simonsimons34.co.cc
2a) If that didnt work and fill out the E-Mail please, use simon@simonsimons34.co.cc and select the way your sending as a GIFT
3) Enter the amount you want to give, Select personal, and Gift
4) Hit Continue and follow any of PayPal's Steps
5) Make sure that if asked, the receiving user DOES NOT Have to be verified.

Simon Thanks to your instructions, I rooted my WFS a few months ago. And again, thanks to your, and others, posts here and on XDA-dev, I finally installed my first custom rom (one made by you), I really appreciate all you folks hard work!

I'm having a problem I can't seem to find an answer to. When rooting through the superonclick program, it freezes on Step 7. Any ideas?

I haven't used superonclick, but a quick google search shows a lot of people stuck at step 7. Many just go on and try other rooting method. Sorry, I don't have any links here.

Another option, if you are unlocked, and are going to flash a custom rom anyway, they do come with root, so all you need to do is get a recovery (I use CWM Recovery) and flash a custom rom, and you would be all set

Try the HTC Supertool found in this guide:

15) Boot into HBOOT by holding Volume down while pressing the power button (you do not need to hold the power button, only hold the volume down button) The HBOOT screen will boot up and then you can let go of the Volume down button.
16) The phone will automatically scan the SD card for the files we just put on the root of the SD card and will start the update process.
17) A screen will appear that says Clean s58. Press the power button once to select clean s58 and the phone will start doing it's thing and should take about a good 20 seconds until it's finished.
I managed to get through step 16 but when I boot in HBOOT I get an error. The screen looks something like this:

***LOCKED***
MARVELC PVT SHIP S-ON RL
HBOOT-1.10.0001
MICROP-0354
RADIO-0.94.00.0109

HBOOT

Parsing... [PG76DIAG.nbh]
[1] mfg diag
Security fail!
Update fail!
Press <POWER> to reboot.

I updated a few weeks ago with the standard update HTC put out. Could this new update be conflicting with the PG76DIAG.nbh files?

I doubt that's the problem. Since your bootloader is already updated, go ahead and unlock it and root. Start with step 3C of the following guide and go from there.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE:

Per the original poster's post 301 above, this thread is no longer being maintained. Sadly, the links in the OP no longer work so this thread has no value for gaining S-OFF or rooting. But this still is a valid method of rooting MarvelC/CDMA/A510c devices such as Virgin Mobile and MetroPCS, and easier than unlocking the bootloader at htcdev.com.

Fortunately, there is a mirror site at XDA with working links linked below:
[Tutorial] How to root CDMA wildfire s and s-off and other great tutorials - xda-developers
