Hi,
You need to flash ClockworkMod recovery using 'fastboot' commands from PC.
1. Put the CWM .img file in sdk directory. (ex. C:\android).
2. Go to hboot menu on the phone and select 'fastboot'.
3. Type this from cmd on PC:
Code:
fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
Hopefully this will flash the CWM on you device.
To root your device:
Copy root.zip on sdcard, goto hboot select 'Recovery'.
On the menu, select 'Install Zip from Sdcard' and select the 'root.zip' and flash it.
Now the device will be rooted.
Hope this may be useful......

I think you probably don't have recovery anymore.
Just follow this from the guide (Go to the first page of this guide)
Hi! Thanks to u bro! I now successfully installed ClockWorkMod recovery 5.0.2.8 through rom manager.
Now I need to install a better rom. I’m currently using CM9.0.0-RC2-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA7-marvel. But this rom has a lot of problem like doesn’t have usb passthrough, no incoming call, no video recording, can’t play a video. So I need to install a better rom. A rom which has all these things working properly.
Can you please suggest me a rom like that for HTC Wildfire S A510e, and where can I get it?

Great!! Congrats
I know CM9 is not really stable at the moment. The best is actually CM 7.2 right now although they are working on CM10 and I believe that when it will be stable, it will be better than CM 7.2...

thank you
It does day not to try if you're a total noob but if you read the instructions very carefully and watch a couple of youtube videos, you shouldn't have any problems. That's what I did and it worked perfectly
I couldn't find a straight answer to this in this thread. I'm trying to root my HTC Wildfire S, following the Guide provided. I am trying to unlock the bootloader, but my ROM is 2.26.61.1, and the tool that HTC provide wants me to upgrade to an earlier version! How do I return to an older ROM? WIll a factory reset do the trick?

No since you have the most recent update, you can skip that part. It should work

But when the phone is in HBOOT it claims to be locked.
That means you still haven't unlocked the bootloader

Hi Joemoore22,
As I see your attach file image, you put the recovery image somewhere and executed the command on somewhere. put all in the one folder and proceed.
Just create a folder on "C:\android " and copy ONLY adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and fastboot.exe along with your <clockworkmod.img> file.
Now type the same fastboot command from "C:\android" as I explained earlier......
and this will definitely flash the recovery on the device!!.

I was able to get to the point where I needed to go from the HBOOT (or some letters like that) then click recovery. Now all I have is a white screen that says HTC. How long should I wait before trying something different? I'm starting to worry about the phone being messed up.

Hi GMR0210,
Welcome to AF...
Can you say which step you proceed on the guide....?
I think you need to flash ClockworkMod recovery according to you model (marvel/Marvelc).
I put the root thing on the sd card (4B)
then I put the sd card back in my phne turne it on while holding volume down and then pushing power. The hit recovery and it is still on the white screen. I evn tried it without the sd card and it didnt do anythikng witin the first five mis so I put it back in and it is still the same white screen with htc.

Problem downloading the 5.0.2.8 image at ClockworkMod’s download page
Help! I'm a noob and have run into a problem at Step 4A: Download the official 5.0.2.8 image at ClockworkMod’s download page.
When I try to download the file using Internet Explorer, it wants to download this img file as an HTML file.
If I download the file through Google Chrome, then when I try to extract the xip file, I get an error message that the file could not be opened or is not a valid zip file.
Am I doing something wrong (right-click, save target as...)? If not, is there another link to this file?

Really appreciate the quick reply. I'd tried out this link from your previous thread, but I'm still not able to extract the file using WinZip. Apologies for being such a newbie, but is there another way to extract the file?

If you download from this above link, you will get the recovery .img file.
You don't need to extract it.
Just flash using fastboot commands as in the guide.

I tried rooting my HTC Wildfire S but got stuck :-(
I've tried several ways, but none will work...
When I'm using this guide I'm stuck at the following point:
Quote:
4C. Flash root.zip Boot into HBOOT and go into Recovery. Then select install zip from sd card and choose zip from sd card. Then find the root.zip file downloaded above and install it.
When I go into HBOOT and then choose Recovery then the HTC logo comes on the screen and my screen gets black after that.

That's strange...Rooting itself shouldn't change anything at all. It just 'unlocks'. Nothing about the rom itself is changed. Have you made any modifications after rooting? Have you uninstalled something?
Service provider: Metro
Android Version: 2.3.4
HTC sense: 2.1
Software #: 3.01.1550.2 710rd
Cant update to 2.3.5 because its a marvelc and cant get the push update from metro. stuck at step 3 cant get the loader. Ive tried it manually keeps telling me Update Fail! Main version Older!

Thank you for that effort bro, i have got a problem starting with the 4th step, i had unlocked the htc wildfire s, but when i open the command prompt it refuse to do anything it says : flashboot is not recongin\ed as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
That came up in CMD. Then I added the zip to the sd card and put it back in the phone. Now when I hit recovery from the HBoot section the phone just restarts a couple times. I get no options to select the zip. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,
First you need to install HTC Sync, Android SDK and Java Runtime on your PC. I hope you might have done this.
If you type the 'fastboot' commands from the android directory you won't get this error.
Now copy Adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll and fastboot.exe form your "C:\program files\android-sdk\platform tools" directory to a new folder on "C:". For example : "C:\android".
Probably when you type 'cmd' or 'command' you will be on your users directory on MS-DOS Prompt. (ex: c:\users\your name).
Type 'cd\' and the type 'cd android' which will get you, to the android directory.
Now type the commands as in the guide. (i.e from "c:\android" dir).
That came up in CMD. Then I added the zip to the sd card and put it back in the phone. Now when I hit recovery from the HBoot section the phone just restarts a couple times. I get no options to select the zip. What am I doing wrong?
Did you choose the correct recovery image file (marvel/marvelc) for your model ?
If it doesn't work try installing 'Rom Manager' from play store. Then flash 'Recovery' from 'Rom Manager'.

No matter what i type it doesnt work.. Where should i put the img file and how do i get the command to work??? I dont understand that..

Hey all, First of all i'd like to say thank you for making such an in depth guide rooting a wildfire s.
I'm having a little bit of a problem trying to get the phone to recover the root.zip, keeps saying it's a bad file.
I'm managed everything else so far including installing clockworks.
The file root.zip might be a bad download. Try download one more time and root it.
Anyway if it works (or not) post it back.
You can also try to root using HTCsuperTool, but sometimes it's not reliable.
i Tried downloading it a few times (using the fress download every time) and still got the above. i'll try 1 more time today to see if that makes a difference,.
any guide for using htcsupertool?
*edit* save adding another post, just tried again and ejected the sd card instead of just pulling it out and it seems to have worked this time.

So it seems not working for you.
You can try the HTC SuperTool method. Refer the thread below and download the tool from here. (if the download links there doesn't work)
I'm someone who is not very good with cellphones, but I definetely want to improve the memory of my htc wildfire S. I bought it in Canada, but I live in Colombia.
The information I have is that my HTC is A510a, is S-ON and all I want is what this guy wanted: Wildfire S ~ Removing System Apps And Rooting Help?, which is only to get rid of systems app that I don't even know how to use, like the zoompass, bell tv, or the like.
Thank you.
btw, my phone info
HTC wildfire S
Model: PG76110
Android 2.3.3
I am trying to follow this post.
Thanks

Hey guys, I'm hoping someone can give me a little help. I followed everything correctly and all was well until I got to step 4C. Flash root.zip.
When I get to hboot it runs an image check for about a second or two and then gives me all the options. When I select recovery the phone goes to the white HTC screen and hangs there. If anyone could give me a heads up on what to do it'd be greatly appreciated.
You see, I'm having issues with the Recovery on the Hboot screen. It won't let me open it to find my zip file. It just goes to the white HTC screen. Would downloading this help that?
