Default What makes an Android phone slow?

Basically, what makes android phones slow? I was thinking that having more free space in phone memory will give more cache memory and some speed. I think I'm missing more things here.

Can anyone list out some tips for having the phone running in its optimal speed.

Thanks in advance.

I use HTC Wildfire (2.2 - Froyo).

Check what tasks you have running in the back ground and disable any you don't need. Also check your applications syncing options.
