Default Back up text messages

Is there a (free) program that can help me store text messages on my PC..
Because I have more than 5000 text messages in my INBOX and starting to delete them gives me an error from the moment the light of my screen goes off.. I would have to tap on my screen on and on to make it succeed but it would last more than a day I guess and I want to keep some of the messages..

Help?

Can you not just delete 10-20 at a time for a while?
