I need help urgently. I have used my wm8650 for a couple of days, I tried installing some apps, with no problem. I switched it off recently, but the next moment I tried to turn it on, it boots quite okay, but when the desktop appears, everything seems to freeze. I have tried the reset button,to no avail. Heeeeeeeelp

@jagunjagun

Hi,

After getting freezed, how much time it takes to respond or it doesn't respond at all.
If it doesn't respond then u need to flash it.

Thanks,
After getting freezed, it restarts itself, but stops at "reloading". it remains there forever

I have a HTC Inspire 4G cell phone and a WM8650 tablet. I can video stream in between my desktop and the HTC cell. I have tried every thing I know to get the tablet hokked up with my desktop but unable to do so. The program I used is called "Skifta". It is wonderful. Does anybody else tries this and if so is there a solution for my problem?

Thank you for your reply

If I'm not mistaken, one of those links from markdmac was the one that helped me. I believe it was the second link from MediaFire although I am not sure. I downloaded the file and installed it just like everyone else had posted. You can find his entire thread by going to the first page of this thread where the download link is as well as extra information that might be useful to you. Here's his post in entirety:

I believe that these are the instructions that I used to install the ROM onto the tablet. If this doesn't work, let me know and I will see if I can find another method that I probably used.

The links from TechKnow didn't seem to want to work on my tablet for some reason.

If Mark is still using the forum, he seems to be the absolute best at getting these tablets to be rooted correctly. If not, I'll try to help you as best as I possibly can.

If these instructions don't help either, I would suggest heading over to TechKnow's website and seeing what kinds of information they have. The guy who runs that forum is a genius and created the hack and is regularly on the forum. He also created a thread there that details how to install the ROM which should be the same exact method that we use, that's if you don't want to wait around for us to get back online or something.
I bought a Eken M009S, would that Honeycomb ROM work for me? Sorry if I have not provided enough information. Thanks!

Nevermind, found the information.

Hi, I have just bought one of these these Chinese WonderMedia pads. I had no problem setting it up for wifi but there appears to be no way to set up the 3G and download Android apps. (China telecom etc only for 3G, it seems, which is a pain. No card slot for 3g network card) I found the terrible chinese version of apps market but also a non Chinese version in the apps included and loaded that. It works but only with an android phone number, otherwise download not possible. I have an iphone and apple macs. I-phone number didn't cut it. I don't want an ipad, just a 7" tablet I can use as e-reader for all my ebooks including kindle.

I am thinking that downloading android apps via computer to micro SD card will work (or will it as mac user?) or else can attach to computer via ethernet or USB. PLease advise on how to solve this problem and unbrick my gadget. By the way it is better than I was expecting, except for these v important issues. Thanks

Default Hi There

I got a WonderMedia WM8650 and got a problem.

One time, i put it to charge and it didnt turn on. I tried for long time, and nothing...So i waited some minutes, tried again, and it works!

Then i installed the new rom, Uberoid, and it was ok. I got into the new rom, started trying how all things would work.

When trying, i saw a advice of battery ending, and at the same time it turned off by itself.

So i connected into the charger, the red light came up. But now i got the same problem i had before, and it do not turn on, and i waited more time than the first time, and nothing...

I saw some people with problem like this...Does anyone know how to solve it?

Thanks a lot!

I'm not exactly sure what is wrong with yours compared to the one I had, like I said, I experienced no issues, it wasn't the fastest tablet around but for me, it wasn't slow.
lucky for you and it is under warranty, me my tablet dead!!! or black screen. that is my problem how to revive a dead tablet. he has power but screen? none.

Default Newbie needs Wifi help

I'm a brand new poster with little or technical knowledge and could badly do with some assistance in getting the wifi working on my girlfriend's WM8650 tablet, which has no manual and may or may not be a copy.

The info I have found out so far from the "about the device" section in "settings" is:

Model: WonderMedia WM8650
Android Version: 2.2
Kernel Version 2.6.32.9 - default
Build Number: generic-eng 2.2 froyo Ver1.3.1 - 20110513.125040

I inserted a phone memory card into the USB port and the device succesfully plays music and views photos from the card but not much else. I tried to set it up for the wireless internet network we have at home already (WPA/WPA2) and that's where I'm stuck. I click wifi to "on", (airplane mode not ticked and a notification box for open networks is ticked) and it gives the message "scanning", then within no time at all a message appears saying "unable to scan for networks" and the wifi automatically switches off again.

"Add Wi-Fi network" will only work when wifi is on for those few seconds, in which time I can't get the SSID and password in. I can save the details though and it appears to accept them but I can't see them anywhere. I can sit the device right next to the wireless router and nothing is being picked up before it switches itself off. My laptop and girlfriend's phone can both get signals outside so signal strength shouldn't be an issue. I tried plugging the device into the modem and keying in what I thought was my user name password to the ADSL settings and that didn't work either. Although I may have got the details wrong. But it's no use to me plugged into the wall anyway. There is also something similar to configure Ethernet but I don't know the relevance of that either.

Can anyone please tell me what my next step should be? Is there a setting somewhere I can adjust or should I be loading a new ROM (not exactly sure what that involves but it sounds quite daunting for the novice)?

Thanks in advance for any help

Hi,
I am new to the rooting world.

I just got this tablet a few days ago, and I'm kinda unimpressed.

I have the WonderMedia WM8650 7" Tablet
Android 2.2
Kernel Verison 2.6.32.9-default
Build number generic-eng2.2 Froyo Ver1.5.3-20110819.062300
Green LED light
3g, WiFi

I was wondering, how would I root this? I know a little about rooting, but which ROMS and stuff do I need.

Thanks.

Default WM8650 7" red led NO 3G

I'm new of this forum. As you can see on the title I have a WM8650, that once received it was not booting at all. I've sent it back and when it has come back from the vendor, it was ok. System installed is Android 2.2; Kernel 2.6.32.9, Build generic-eng2.2 Froyo Ver 1.5.0-20110613.113944.

I did the personalization also generating a new google account, but any time I power on the system I get the message "Google Talk Authentication failed".
At the beginning I was able to dowload some apps from market, but sometimes I received the same failure message and no download was done.
Now it seems to me I'm not able to download anything more.
I red to clear the memory, to get root capabilities, to run wipe.... I really don't understand. I can survive w/o Goggle Market, but anyone can tell me how to get rid of the annoying message at power on ?

If someone could help I'll be very gratefull.

I had typed out a long reply that told how to do this without a problem but when I tried to submit it I was told that my first post could not contain a link (the link was to download the proper Uberoid ROM) and I lost everything I typed in. This has pissed me off to no end. I spent 40 minutes typing step by step detailed instructions. Thank your administrators. I am not re-typing this again for this site!

There is a post somewhere on these forums that tells you how to open a corporate account with google. that did the trick for me, lets you then dowload any app

I have the WM8650 and love it.
I upgraded it and everything is working fine except there seems to be no blue tooth on it.
Is that because its not built into the unit itself or is it the OS that doesnt have BT
I am interested in getting a bluetooth keyboards for it
Any ideas guys ?
Thanks

Smile Which VIA MW8650 to buy?

Hi,

It seems that there are different types from different manufacturers for this Tablet, and for some the rooting and upgrade issues have been already resolved by you guys.
Can you please help me to chose a type which can be upgraded easier?
I have found the following links; they are in German, but maybe from pictures or specifications you can guess the right model.
I am new in this forum and I can not send links, that's why I removed www. from the links. Please add it otherwise the links won't be shown

Thanks

Hello Geniuses! I installed the 1.3.0 Honeycomb firmware that mark so kindly gave us a guide on how to do.

Problem is, when it started up it refused to sense my fingers on it. So now i have no touch - at all. What to do? Cant even lock it up now, but it sure does look prettier than before. Dont want to use it as a pictureframe though, so, again, what to do?

edit: I have now tried some other ROOTS from TechKnow, and they all freeze at the loadscreen. FML.

I just got my tablet Monday and so far I have gotten a couple of forcecloses and maybe its just me but I have to really press hard on the screen to get it to respone. I like some others got it off ebay and I want it for being a ereader. I see that some people have tried to root there tablets and Im new to this somewhat would rooting be the same as you would do for a smartphone? Imyself have a rooted flashed evo and that was done by someone else. Now my tablet is 7' it has the green led light and it vibrates when turn on.

WM8650
Android verision 2.2
Kenernal version 2.6.32.9-default
Build number generic-eng2.2 Froyo Ver 1.5.3-20110819.052300
And I want to mention that I have my google account connected but I want a different market and hope to find an ereader and if someone doesnt mind letting me in on how I can root my tablet myself.

Thanks Bobbi

try this

Solved ""Exchange account" puzzle.
On Google based tablets you have to activate your calendar and contacts. If you do not have a company exchange account first sign up for a Google gmail account. When you first open your tablet and the calendar you will be ask for this info. Use your gmail user name and password. in the server line use m.google.com. If you miss this step like I did you can go into settings-accounts and sync- add account (bottom of page)-corporate. Follow instructions and put the m.google.com on server line. Bingo, you are on. Took me hours and hours (two weeks) to find this info.

I got the WM8650 from EBay with the Keyboard and case. It has the Green light, 3G, Wifi, and a USB dongle for keyboards, mouse. The dongle also has the ethernet port in it.
I got this for my daughter.
I want to know if anyone has any success with a better rom.
I don't want to have a dead unit if something goes wrong.
I would love to have a faster unit, and also a market that has everything that I am used to in it.
Amazon Market is out of the question because I don't want my daughter accidentally clicking on a purchase.
She is on Facebook, and this will be for writing, reading, and surfing...

Any suggestions appreciated.

You need to try each ROM until you get one that works, I dont remember the site i was on but there was a program that listed all the ROMS. You started at 1 and just went on until you found one that worked. I found 2 that seemed OK but the touch screen didnt work, Eventually i got to number 13 and it worked perfect. On start up it shows Modroid

Smile How To Put Android Market on WM8650

Basically, it's a cheap tablet that I decided to try. It came from China, shipped and made there, and comes with a real version of Android 2.2. However, Market is not included in this version. Some other Chinese alternative was added instead...I kept wondering why it didn't want to register my Gmail account. So would applying a GAPPs to the tablet resolve my issue? I'd just like Market...I can work my way from there. And does anyone know of any root methods or any ROMs available for this tablet?

I have an answer to the Android Market but can't use links in my first post...so look at the next one to follow.

Actually I just bought the same tablet (wm8650) and the workaround is quite simple once you figure out how.
First download the Android market app from here
Multiupload.com - upload your files to multiple file hosting sites!

then set it up and register for account...close app.

Second download the Facebook App from here Download apk/facebook at DownloadAndroidROM.com

Install the Facebook app and logon.....then run the Android market app and then your in like Flynn.

Also try the Amazon.com app store...some great apps as well...get that here http://amzn.to/getappstore
Hope this helps..!!

Hi Everyone
I am absolute beginner. I have WM8650 running Android 2.2 made in China.
I cant get it to set Keyboard default to English.
I cant get to connect to Wifi though the Wifi is detected.
Wifi is WPA but WM8650 tries to enter password in Arabic in place of Roman numerals.
Does Wifi connects automatically?
Some one please help.

First of all you need to go to settings/keyboard and select english, that should change everything to english then once you have entered your passwords and i.d. and it should then remember the codes

Buid number: generic-eng 2.2 Froyo ver 1.5.0-20110613.113944

I was given one of these by my brother, because he messed it up and i was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it. The display looks like it is smaller than screen size and it loops. If holding sideways what is on top of the screen is repeated on bottom: home button, status bar, time, volume. Holding it straight it loops what is on the right end of display. I don't know how to put a pic on here without having to be a link or I would put that.

I expected it to be slow for the price, but I still expected it to function.

Like the OP I tried installing both Froyo Market and GMAIL APK files. both installed ok but neither will launch. The screen flashes white and then nothing.
That is what happens when I try to run the Android Market. I downloaded the APK for it and it installed without issue, but when I try to run it it flashes white and then shuts down, not the tablet but the app. I read somewhere that there was a patch that resolves this issue but good luck finding it and the directions.

Default A few questions....

Hi everyone,

I'm new here and have been reading this thread with interest as I've got one of these little gizmos on its way in the post.

I've got a few questions, if anyone would be kind enough to answer them:

1/ I've seen (both on the manufacturer's website and from some Chinese vendors) that this tablet is available with Android or WinCE 6 OS. I couldn't find a UK seller offering the WinCE version, so have bought the Android.

Knowing that the device supports WinCE, is it as easy as getting hold of a copy and installing over Android, or is there more to it than that? I know nothing about Android but am (reasonably) familiar with WinCE and already have a few programs that will run on it, particularly TomTom Navigator.

2/ Does flashing the ROM automatically wipe any pre-installed programs, or does it just give you the option to remove these?

3/ I've seen a few people say the device isn't Bluetooth equipped, but all the advertising I have seen (including the site where I bought from) say it is. Is the lack of Bluetooth possibly a side-effect of using the Uberoid ROM, ie is it the firmware that doesn't support Bluetooth functionality?

I think that may be all for now, but I may come up with some more yet!

Many thanks in advance,

Rob

Ok, I saw on line that while people were unable to get the Android Market properly installed, the were able to install the Amazon Android App store. So I tried and behold it worked.
My question is, does anyone have any experience with the AAAS? I try to download free apps and it asks for a payment method.
Is this normal? Just something that needs to be set up to have the acct. I don't remember the AM asking for any payment information until I tried to buy something. All free apps just downloaded.
Any help with this would be appreciated.

How long did you leave the tablet on when it said "updating"? It took a few minutes before mine was finished. The best thing to do is when updating and stuff like that takes you a long time, do overnight while you sleep. If you wake up and it is still "updating", something went wrong. In very rare cases, like when I rooted my HTC Evo 4G, it took me over 3 hours to root when rooting only takes about 30 minutes at top usually.
Hello! I have this same tablet...

I have a 9.7" Wondermedia
Wm8650
Android ver 2.2
Kernel 2.6.32.9-default

When I got the tablet, everything seems to work. it started up fine, I have some fake Android Market, along with the real one too. Overall...it seems a bit...crappy. Its all old versions, and I can't find half of the apps in the android store (its a REALLY old version of Market also)

Will this rooting trick fix all this? I read that everyone says it really upgraded their Tablet, and I just wanted to double check that I started with the same thing as you guys.

I'm buying a microSD today and then going to attept this. Thought???

Most likely, they just want your credit/debit number on file, just in case you do make a purchase. They are big on their "One-click buy" thing. They shouldn't charge you if you download a free app. You can easily make an account online.

On the other Hand...I download Amazon Market onto my WM8650 - M013s and nothing will download, not even the simple stuff like note pads. I've seen other people who have had this problem also.

Good luck!

Yes for me. I ran a test of % consumption over time (average usage) and it lasts for about an hour for me too. I also had the device on 100% charge, unplugged and put it on stand-by and went mobile. I opened it a couple of hours later and it flashed up the 15% battery warning, so it doesn't seem to last long on stand-by either.

My device =
MW8650
Android v2.2
Build 1.5.1 (2011 07 08)

Mine also has an Apple socket that's fairly meaningless (doesn't charge or allow USB connection). Instead, it uses a 9V 1.5A socket with a Chinese plug, which I now have the adaptor for.

Still reading through some quality posts here to work out how I can get Android Apps on my device. Tough gig at the moment, as I'm an old bugger and new to the world of Android.

Wish me well! ; )

I used this tablet WM8650 in china with china Unicom. It was working ok. Here only Airtel works but when I switch off the tablet again it shows out of coverage area. Reliance works only for Gprs.
I think its locked? if its locked then can any one tell me how to unlock it so i can use with any other sim? or is there some other problem?
