I'm shocked as to the lack of posts here of this particular tablet...it's fairly cheap ($80 and found on eBay easily).
Anyway, I wondered if anyone here could help me. I wanted to root this device and also put Market on it.
Basically, it's a cheap tablet that I decided to try. It came from China, shipped and made there, and comes with a real version of Android 2.2. However, Market is not included in this version. Some other Chinese alternative was added instead...I kept wondering why it didn't want to register my Gmail account. So would applying a GAPPs to the tablet resolve my issue? I'd just like Market...I can work my way from there. And does anyone know of any root methods or any ROMs available for this tablet?

I just received 2 of these WM8650 units. Green LED, Black Headphone port, and vibrates..
I was able to update the ROM on one unit, but the other unit will not allow the touchscreen to work no matter the ROM used. the 2 are identical. Not sure why it wont work on unit #2..
Possible the screen is bad? It works greatr with a mouse attached.

Hello, I have a netbook with 7 wm8650. I tried to install 17 of the topic, all installed normal, but is a dark screen. Try installing then the Uberoid WM8650 1.5.5 with the code 11. But still with a dark side. What to do? Everything works normal, only the screen is dark in one piece.
Hi Rickey, it seems that there are many devices that report themselves as WM8650.
It's actually not the device itself, the WonderMedia 8650 is infact just the CPU inside of the device. I have a netbook with the same CPU, and Android version.

The rom located at *****'s site seems to work for me pretty well, I have a green light, vibrating model. Just go to their site and look for the downloads link (I'd post it here but it won't let me). I've tried ones from the other sites and they don't work so well, hangs on the Uberoid screen. Also, I've noticed that using a 32gb card to load the rom doesn't work for me, but an 8gb does, don't know why.
Hey guys! I, mcompletely neW AT THIs. i HAVE a wm8650 tablet, android 2.2, kernel version 2.6.32.9 default, GREEN led light. How can I root it? I cant see anything with flash (a blue brick appears, with a question mark on it).. I can't use market because it says something about not recognizing a device... help! Thanks soo much! I went to this forum, they have a new location so I went there and tried to register. I could not answer the questions like who created uberoid so I was never allowed to register. The solution sounds easy enough but I have never had a problem registering for a forum before. thanks for your post anyway.
I bought the wm8650 the other day for xmas and it was already rooted. The wifi issue sux though my I tether my phone and it literally has to be right by the tablet to browse the internet is there a fix to this? Also my daughter wanted to know of a app or program she can do her school work with?

My little grand-daughter got a neopad 8650 from Santa and I have been trying to help out with it.
Have worked out a few things (thanks for the info re the App store) but
i would love to transfer a couple of movies and games from a laptop onto the tablet for her.
She can watch movies via a flash drive plugged into the usb adapter but is there any way to directly upload them to the tablet??? e.g. what format do they need to be in?
Secondly re the games..I have manager to copy the folderinto the tablet, but cannot get the exe file to open.

I bought the wondermedia wm 8650 as a gift for my sister for Christmas but wanted to set it up for her, but I have been unable to get it to work properly.
1) i havent been able to add her yahoo email account, every time I try i get an error that say can't connect to server,
2) I wanted to install android market and uninstall the current market app on the tablet. i installed market but cant get it to open. I keep getting a message that says program quite unexpectedly.
3) also flash and adobe aren't working properly
I was reading you forum as saw that updating the os may help. Im currently running android version 2.2 Im at a loss and need help. Anything you can do would be appreciated.
I just want to comment that I emailed the service dept for help with setting up the Neopad 8650 and they answered me straight away and have been really, really helpful with their advice.
(and no...this is NOT a paid commercial...lol)

I finally found an image for the WM8650 7" Android tablet (non 3G) that makes the tablet rock! Installation is super easy but does wipe the device. Backup any data you want to keep. You will also need an SD card you can format. The difference in loading this ROM is night and day. No more strange Chinese apps, no more lockups or unexplained reboots and access to the real Android Market directly on the PC. Any apps I paid for on my Android Phone were available for download to the tablet now too!
Connect the SD card to your computer and use the SD formatter to create an empty FAT32 volume.
Unzip the Uberoid download to an empty folder on your PC first, then copy the files onto the SD card. (for some reason extraction directly to the SD card failed on me)
The wmt_scriptcmd file and FirmwareInstall folder should be on the root of the card.
With the android tablet turned off, insert the SD card, and turn it back on.
During startup the android tablet will read the SD card and install the firmware. It took about 4 minutes for the process to complete before the device rebooted into the new OS. Watch the screen because the SD card must be ejected when the firmware installation completes or the upgrade will run again after the device restarts.
After installation I went into the applications list and found an app for fixing the market. I was then able to go into the regular Android Market after setting up my WiFi connection. I found it necessary to search for GMail in the market to update the version contained in the ROM image. After doing that I was able to access GMail on the tablet.
Everything else I did was related to setting up the environment the way I like such as using ADW Launcher as my default launcher. Moving icons around etc.
* Note that there is a large clock widget on the home screen that will prevent you from putting icons on the desktop, I removed that.
Overall this improved the device 1000%. I was really disappointed in the tablet and now I am extremely happy with it.
Clarification: Others have been reporting that they have tried the information I have posted, some with success and others without success. Make sure your loading the right ROM for your device. The Tech Know web site has many ROMs to try. My device has a blue LED, WiFi Only and is 7 inches. If your device does not fit that description, you can still follow my upgrade instructions but you need a different ROM.

What can i do to improve this and what other newer firmware/build is availabe for these units.

I'm a brand new poster with little or technical knowledge and could badly do with some assistance in getting the wifi working on my girlfriend's WM8650 tablet, which has no manual and may or may not be a copy.
The info I have found out so far from the "about the device" section in "settings" is:
I inserted a phone memory card into the USB port and the device succesfully plays music and views photos from the card but not much else. I tried to set it up for the wireless internet network we have at home already (WPA/WPA2) and that's where I'm stuck. I click wifi to "on", (airplane mode not ticked and a notification box for open networks is ticked) and it gives the message "scanning", then within no time at all a message appears saying "unable to scan for networks" and the wifi automatically switches off again.
"Add Wi-Fi network" will only work when wifi is on for those few seconds, in which time I can't get the SSID and password in. I can save the details though and it appears to accept them but I can't see them anywhere. I can sit the device right next to the wireless router and nothing is being picked up before it switches itself off. My laptop and girlfriend's phone can both get signals outside so signal strength shouldn't be an issue. I tried plugging the device into the modem and keying in what I thought was my user name password to the ADSL settings and that didn't work either. Although I may have got the details wrong. But it's no use to me plugged into the wall anyway. There is also something similar to configure Ethernet but I don't know the relevance of that either.
Can anyone please tell me what my next step should be? Is there a setting somewhere I can adjust or should I be loading a new ROM (not exactly sure what that involves but it sounds quite daunting for the novice)?

gaild6, didn't get the tablet working and gave up. tried posting on another forum too but didn't get any answers specific to my device. my girlfriend was told recently that this particular model had no functioning wi-fi but would work for 3G. haven't tested that theory.

I bought a MID tablet last last week and I'm not satisfied with the wifi also the games are kinda choppy. The Gingerbread 2.3 games are much faster but I think I cannot upgrade it to that? Can somebody point me to a lastest rom or upgrade like Uberoid/Hybrid?

Cheap ass Chinese MID's
Ok guys, I have been scouring the net looking for answers for my WonderMedia 8650 and I am glad to say I found it!! I now have Uberoid v. 11 beta installed and it turned my turd into a jewel!!!!
As for some of you guys wanting help, I have to say that in order to use these types of Mods and Rom replacements and also installing either discontinued or cracked APK's, you will have to get used to doing some things you maybe never have done before, one thing namely is using torrent sites, you can find literally thousands of games and appz and others stuff on some torrent sites. Also Applanet and other app finding programs will help you out.
Now for those of you that feel that they do not want to delve into the work of Rom replacements and such i will tell you some of the easy things I did with my fresh out of the box WM8650 MID 7" from China also purchased on Ebay.
First things first, dependent on your version of this tablet you may or maynot ever get contacts working properly! if you have then you are very lucky!!
As for the app market installed, it links to a cheesy ass server in China with only a handful of apps (mostly games) you can install Google market by downloading directly from here some home screen loaders such as Go Launcher or Launcher Pro, if you can access the net on your tablet then you should be able to download them directly of you can use a PC and download the APK files to is and transfer to your tablet, one app I advise to get it Wifi File Tranfer, found on the Applanet Market.
This will allow you to connect to your tablet from your pc and transfer files over your home network, this is how I load new apps to my tablet and cell. After fiels have been transferred you can go to your file browser on the tablet and find the APK you transferred and install it from there.
Now you should be set to download anything from the Android App Market.
If you wan to get a new ROM the I suggest visiting TechKnow they helped me get this MID running like a top!!
Phantomseed, thank you I could really use the help, I had it working some what yesterday, but the touch screen wouldn't calaberate, it would say it failed, so I tried to change the rom again to the beta one on it and it wouldn't do anything and so the only one that will show the desktop is the one that the seller emailed me but the touch don't work, so I tried the Universial one and it did work until like I said I put the Beta. help please.

I have been going through the list of Rom's and some of them will get to the desktop like9,20,21,23 and i'm still testing the rest, but they don't have the touch on the desktop, so can someone help me to get the touch to work on one of these rom's, i'm using the M8650 Uberoid v11 beta3 HcH one and how long does it take for it to get to the desktop? some just stays on the colorful honeycombs.

If it is hanging at the honeycomb then the option you chose will not work, try option 59, I did and it worked marvelous.

aaliy06, also before you pick your option make sure you enable wifi support by typing x then enter and write down the wifi command its something like rt3070 then hit enter again it will take you back to the main changer screen, type the wifi command in then hit enter, the enter again and then type in option then enter it it ask for the drive to write to.
Also I dont know if you did this but you should unzip the ROM file to an empty folder on your pc and run the changer there, not on the SD card, the sd should be formatted with fat32 and waiting in a adapter to be written to! not sure if you knew that.

The MOD has it in it, so once you install the MOD then the market should be there!!! sorry for the long time between posts, I have been busy, let me know how it goes!!
phantomseed, I used no. 59 and it works, but it don't have the full market, but I can go online from my laptop and go to the Android market and download lot more apps straight to the tablet, but it won't let me download angry birds to the tablet and I know that it was on here before it messed up, do you know why that is? and thanks for your help.
