Default Tablet volume way too loud!!

Hello, I have a rooted Wondermedia WM8650 tablet running Honeycomb. When I try to listen to something through headphones the volume is ridiculously loud on the lowest setting. It is too loud to put them over my ears, I have to set them away from me and use them like speakers. This on the LOWEST sound setting. It doesn't matter what app I'm using, or if its an mp3 on my hard drive or a video on the web. I saw a post explaining how to boost the volume in tablets, but is there an opposite command to lower the volume? Any help would be appreciated!! Thanks!!
