Hi, first i want to say many thanks for bringing Gingerbread to my Xperia X8. Also thanks for the nice tutorial! It was very helpful for me!!! But a few questions are open after the update to GingerXperia_V8... Can i delete all empty folders on my device and sdcard? Many Folders are named with a number followed by a space an then the folder name. But most of them are empty?! And further: Can you please tell me how to delete the f***ing Facebook App and optionally others?! Were are the System Apps located? Thanks in advance! PS: Will there be a full localized System for German language (maybe in GingerXperia_V9)?

Tongue bugs/layout

first i'd like to thank you, this rom really has boosted my phones overall speed and usability.

the net thing is, ive had this (v8) for about 5 days, and i've had an strange situation at sometimes when this really high volume white noise sounds and no volume control can make it quieter and the only way to stop it is rebooting the phone. the fisrt time it happened was when i was getting a phone call, i used the volume button to silence it but not hang it, and when the incoming call ended, the noise started playing, other time i was changing the sound from vibration to full volume with the volume button and got the sound, the next time i got it was this morning, i set up an alarm to wake me last night, and left the phone on silence (vibrate mode) and when the alarm went off, i got the alarm sound and a few seconds later the noise again. do you know what could be causing it?

another thing, i changed my ringtone to sound like digital phone, today i noticed that when i receive a call, it sounds only once and then just keeps on vibrating instead of also looping the sound as a normal sound would..

and third, i was wondering about the home layout... i was expecting to get the shortcuts bar at the bottom of the screen as the theme preview shows, but instead i have the 4 corners shortcuts as in eclair, how can i change this cause i like it more the "new" layout instead.

sorry if my post is too long

Hi,

I am glad that you are happy with the custom rom.
I don't know about the "white noise" you are experiencing on the phone.
I have been using this custom rom for a few weeks now and I have not experienced any problems.

I know you can customise the ring tones by copying a .ogg ringtone into the system folder

As for the homescreen you can use a launcher like LauncherPro. Once you install it you just have to reboot and you will be asked which launcher to use. Just select the launcher you want and set it to default. Hope that helps.

cheers

Hello,

I just installed the V8 ROM on my X8. Looks well and great but. If I download apps from the market my phone hangs when it starts installing. I have to remove my battery and boot the phone. Anyone else has this problem?
I hope you guys can help me out.

Cheers!

Hi,

You can use clockworkMod Recovery or xRecovery to do a back up.

1. shutdown and reboot you phone
2. when you see the words SONY Ericsson <hit> the back button multiple times
3. in xRecovery or ClockworkMod Recovery <hit> the backup / restore then <hit><backup>

Once backup is done... you can find the backup (folder) in xRecovery or ClockworkMod Recovery folder

to restore... it is the same process, except in reverse.

Is it right when i do this i have the old System or not?
By the instroduction is to read

---> DON'T WANT TO USE THE 2.3.5 ROM ANYMORE?
Well it was fun visiting and touring the Gingerbread 2.3.5 ROM, now let's go back to Eclair 2.1.1

D) RESTORING THE Official Android Eclair 2.1.1 ROM

Step 4: Reinstalling your original Eclair 2.1.1 ROM
- <shutdown> wait 5 seconds <reboot> Xpedia X8
- when you see the words [Sony Ericsson] on the phone screen -> start pressing the back button on your phone multiple times and you will enter the xRecovery Menu.
- <select><factory reset (full wipe)>
- scroll down and hit <backup/restore><restore>
- you should see your original 2.1 backup ROM
- <select> <2011-10-xx.xx.xx.xx.ROM><restore> [it should look something like 2011-05-06.21.01.23]
- xRecovery will start to install the original 2.1.1 ROM [the ROM you've backed up in Step 1] from your phone's SD Card.
- when it is done xRecovey will go back to the startup menu
- <click><reboot>

And you are back to where you have started - Xperia X8 Android Eclair 2.1.1 <--

To put it in perspective. It is like saying most computers have gone from Windows Vista to Windows 7 - Xperia X8 users are using Windows XP.

Have a look at this article from Android Community Website for the major upgrades from Froyo to Gingerbread.

ANDROID 2.3 GINGERBREAD FEATURES AND LIST OF WHAT’S NEW

But... just take note the 2.3.3 CM Hackdroid ROM is custom-recoded to be compatibile to the Xperia X8

So... A few things to note.
Bugs
1) Compass is NOT working yet
2) Bluetooth is NOT working yet
3) Crash/rebooting for you use apps that access SuperUser - e.g RootExplorer

Limitations
1) NO Multi-touch for Xperia X8 forever [Xperia X8 has Capacitive (single touch) Screen]
2) Xperia X8 only has an Accelerometer

I don't want to list all the limitations of the Xperia X8.
It will make me want go out and buy a Nexus S

Xperia X8 is still a very good mid-size android phone.
It is still quite highly rated in most decent mobile websites.

If your are interested - check out SONY Ericsson Xperia X8 Technical Specs <-- here

cheers!
thats what you think yet if you get a rom or go to xda and download cypress to your phone there is multitouch+ i have a rom:gingerdx and that allows cypress dualtouch for ever.p.s sorry if i missed your point

Thumbs up GingerXperiaV10

Hey, I really like what you do but I didn't like the GingerXperiaV10 style and a lot of apps are missing and it's too bad.. I do not mean to be rude but you can improve the quality of the video camera? I mean The video quality is bad and very low volume compared to Version 2.1 and the quality photos isn't very pretty. And why games like Sims 3 and need for speed does not work? Sorry if I did not express myself well. My English is not good.

Sorry for splitting the posts, but got this question in mind just few mins back, thought of asking.

The Custom ROM's names are quite confusing.

is GingerXperia, GingerDx are = Gingerbread ROMs ? or they are completely different from each other.

Please shed some light on this.

BTW, my X8 shows 2.3.7 build v017

Hi all,

Sorry I have been away from the XDA custom rom scene for a while...
I will try to answer all your questions in this post.

1. Xperia X8 screen does not support multi touch... all multi touch kernels that have been developed simulate multi touch therefore NOT all apps are supported (especially games).

2. if you are upgrading from V9 to V10 you DO NOT have to factory wipe (reset) because they are have the same core modules.

3. I DO NOT support cracked games and will not post solutions for compatibility for cracked games. In most cases cracked games are also unstable and depending on the crack method they are cracked specifically for a particular brand of mobile phone (e.g. Need for Speed for Samsung GS2). So if you try to install it on your Xperia chances are these games will not work.

4. Video recording and camera on the Xperia X8 have the lowest priority in terms of custom rom fixes because these modules have to be re-coded (rewritten). A VERY tedious task. I don't blame the custom rom developers. However, GingerDX and GingerXperia have both camera and video recording in working order. The problem is the camera hardware on the Xperia X8 is limited to 3MP. Pics and video quality cannot be expected to be very good. You really need at least 8MP to take good pictures and videos (8MP is Xperia Arc BRAVIA Engine category).

5. GingerDX and GingerXperia are different custom roms coded by different developers. GingerDX is by doixanh = Gingerbread v2.3.7 & GingerXperia is base on MiniCM7-2.0.7 by nobodyAtall - modified and customised by Miguel Angel Sanchez Bravo = Gingerbread 2.3.5 so their core modules are different.

6. If you are stuck in a boot loop = baseband not compatible. You probably have baseband 006. You have to download FlashTool and flash the lastest baseband 015 for your Xperia X8. NOTE: there are 2 different model Xperia X8s = Model E15i and E15a. Flash the correct baseband 015.

Hope this answers all your questions...

cheers

DISCLAIMER: Please use the info below at your own risk with no warranty of any kind.

Here is how you can try Gingerbread 2.3 safely and revert back to your stock Android Eclair 2.1.1 if you don't like the Android Gingerbread 2.3.5 ROM

PREREQUISITES <-- IMPORTANT!!!
1) Make sure you have Rooted and xRecovery installed on your Xperia X8.
2) Make sure you have new baseband xxxxxxx15 - check <settings><About phone>
If you don't have baseband xxxx015 your phone will end up in a boot loop

If not... see the my post below:
Root, Install & Use xRecovery on Xperia X8 <-- here

METHOD:

A) BACKUP STOCK ANDROID ECLAIR 2.1

Step 1: Make a backup copy of your Android Eclair 2.1 using xRecovery
- check that your phone's SD Card has at least 650MB of free space
[SD card free space is to hold both your phone original backup ROM and the 2.3 ROM]
- shutdown your X8 and wait 5 seconds -> <reboot> your phone.
- when you see the words [Sony Ericsson] on the phone screen -> start pressing the back button on your phone multiple times and you will enter the xRecovery Menu.
- select <backup and restore><backup> from the menu

NOTE:
- This will create a backup file in your SD Card <SD/xRecovery/backup>
- After you have completed the backup using xRecovery, it will return to the menu screen.
- Now choose <reboot> - your X8 phone should restart

B) DOWNLOADING 2.3.3 ROM

Step 2: Download GingerXperia ROM
- <mount> your Xpedia X8 and copy this file <GingerXperiaV8.zip> into SD card
- <unmount> and shutdown your Xpedia X8

C) Custom install THE 2.3.5 ROM

Step 3: Installing the 2.3.5 ROM on your Xpedia X8
- <boot> Xpedia X8
- when you see the words [Sony Ericsson] on the phone screen -> start pressing the back button on your phone multiple times and you will enter the xRecovery Menu.
- <select><factory reset (full wipe)>
- scroll down and hit <install custom zip>
- select <GingerXperiaV8.zip> from your SD card & hit <yes>
- xRecovery will start to install the 2.3.5 ROM on your phone.
- when it is done, xRecovey will go back to the startup menu
- <click><reboot>

Now you can start using your phone - Isn't Gingerbread 2.3.5 great!!!

DON'T WANT TO USE THE 2.3.5 ROM ANYMORE?

And you are back to where you have started - Xperia X8 Android Eclair 2.1.1

If you have decided to keep and use the Gingerbread 2.3.5 ROM... like I did

DO send a big THANK YOU to the developers @ XDA for their hard work building this custom 2.3.5 Gingerbread ROM

ADDENDUM:

UPDATES WARNING:
DO NOT update to the new BusyBox from Android Market after you have setup your Xperia X8 with the 2.3.3 ROM or you will BRICK your Xperia X8 phone.

If you have bricked your Xperia phone... follow this guide to recover to stock Eclair 2.1.1.A.0.6

[GUIDE] How to rescue our bricked phone by Graveir @ XDA <-- here

App Updates:
Optional = install to update apps... does not affect stability of the 2.3.3 ROM
Recommended = recommended install/update for stability of the 2.3.3 ROM

System v1.0.9 <-- here [Recommended]
Instructions: Download and install/upgrade using File Manager

LauncherPro v0.8.4.1 <-- here [Recommended]

Green Power Battery Saver v3.7 <-- here [Optional]
Instructions: Download and install using File Manager

Root Explorer v2.16 <--- here [Recommended]
Instructions: Download and install/upgrade using File Manager

Crash/Rebooting Issues:
a) Battery Drain Issues:
Charge battery to 100%... and then some
<Reboot> into <xRecovery>
go to <Advanced settings><clear battery stats>

Note: New Li-Ion battery do not have memory effect so do not need to drain flat [0%] before resetting battery stats. In fact it is more detrimental to use a phone until the battery is flat.
Li-Ion batteries have approx. 500 charge/discharge cycles - after 500 charge/discharge cycles your batt is dead no matter what you do.

A partial charge/discharge reduces stress and prolongs battery life. So it's much better to discharge and charge your phone intermittently to prolong battery life.

For Link2SD/APPS2SD functions
go to <settings><CyanogenMod settings><Application> select <Allow application moving>
go to <settings><CyanogenMod settings><Application><Install location><automatic>

Hi,

Thanks for the info... I have not upgraded to v10 yet.
You might want to revert to V9.

cheers

i have tried V10 few days ago, and that's great, multi touch also work!

but then i tried to upgrade to V11 (steps in x recovery: <factory reset (full wipe)> -> <install custom zip>), X8 goes faster, but multi touch disappear

is there something wrong with me? Or V11 just delet the function of multi touch?

btw, thanks for reading.
