I found this case to be quite flimsy and very plastic. But biggest problem is when you fold it back really no where for top cover to go. Not really going to lay flat and kind of gangly when folding back to use tablet in hands.
I did not buy but they allowed me to take out of box and test it out. I would suggest anyone interested in this case to get hands on it or you may be very disappointed.

ive still got the plastic wrap on the back (took it of the top since the gorilla is on there). i purchased a protector off amazon that covers the back. it has a screen protector but im not gonna use that.. just the back.. so the plastic stays on until i get it..

yeah the folio really really disappointed me. nicely built feeling xoom in a $2 feeling cheap ass feeling piece of flimsy plastic and nylon. my folio case is hard to close. really had to pull on it to close it. in the end the folio is really bad all around. hopefully 3rd party vendors have something soon.
i also feel the case is useful howver knowing it can scratch is the reason im taking it back. perhaps a better 3rd party piece will come out. i like how it slides in and dont care for the other folio cases that use flaps on the corners...
I will grind those little grabbers down first, before I snap it in. It should not be that hard to snap in and out to use the stand feature. Also i'm making a hole for the charger.
Wow! Hos disappointing. The scratching is the worst. But as demonstrated in the video, I am not sure I would want the medium tilt now anyway. At first it seemed like it would be awesome now I don't see a use.
I am thinking now I would like a case that protects, and maybe allows the tablet to be stood up or layed flat.

Cleaned mine up with a xacto and some filing. Works good now but its still a pile of crap IMO. Slides around everywhere when its placed in those grooves. If you just touch it barely it slides down << Probably not making sense but still.
i was thinking about this one too but i just didnt like the flaps to hold it in. i prefer the OEM look and this screams 3rd party. my opinion of course.. i really want a folio case. imma stop in verizon tomorrow and see what they have //
airforce did bby give you a hard time for returning the folio case after you opened it? any restock fee? ive not returned anything to bby before...

No no issues whatsoever. No restocking fee, etc.. but it was a Verizon store where I bought the OEM case, not Best Buy so I can't say how BB will behave.
I agree with you and I'm not in love with the looks of the one I bought from Amazon, but I need something for now...until better units arrive.

I like the portfolio case for what it is. It was never positioned as a luxury item and I find the feel of it to be more about function. My only initial concerns were with the clasp you use to close it -- just seems easy to scratch the body of the device. I think it'll come down to how you use the device; I ordered the gel/silicone cover and the portfolio case. When transporting in a backpack, I think I'll be more likely to use the portfolio case. Other times, I will probably use the gel case. It's good to have options.
I actually dig the case. I didnt heve the difficulty removing ghe device from the clips at the bottom (as shownin the video) I primary want to use the case as a protection anyway. Not a bad introductory accessory.

i didn't dislike it either, in fact it(with the Xoom in it) slid nicely into the pocket behind the seat in my truck. I just don't like the potential for scratches. It also bothered me that it was 'open", in that dust can get into, and on, the device.

it's cheap but be aware they screw you on the shipping(7.99 for regular ground)
I like it because it's soft everywhere so won't hurt anything and it zips closed to keep dust off and out of the xoom. I'll post back when I get it.
This is the one I got from buy.com for $18.95 inc shipping saw it at office depot for $39.99 and looks it will work really nice. Got a gel case as well cause both will fit inside.

Yeah I just double posted above..quoted the same post twice But yeah I'm glad you got a look at it, now I feel more confident that it will be a good solution
I've had mine since launch (bought the dock also) and I have not had the scratching problem on it. Believe me when I say I was not exactly trating my Xoom with kid gloves. In fact, I wasn't even thinking about scratching issues other than the glass itself.
I don't like how you have to open it to charge it but it works well for me. I just watched the video and it kind of freaked me out so I double checked my Xoom's edges for scratches. None here.

yeah i had the folio case a day before launch. i smoked it over and was worried about those corners rubbing the tablet. fast forward to this video and that cinched it for me. the fact that you CAN get the folio case to scratch is enough for me to return it--and im not fond of returning things.. perhaps if the edges of the folio case had some felt or some other soft material there to "grab" the tablets edges...
The scratches take place where those little tabs are that is supposed to make the fit snug. After I posted above, i had another look and, sure enough, there were marks. I wouldn't say scratches. More like rubbing marks. I went to a friend's and wanted to show him where I noticed the "marks" were and we couldn't see it right off the bat. I had to look at it from different angles to see them again.
Nonetheless, they were there. I'm still looking for other cases now mainly because I don't like having to spread it open to charge it or take it out of the case completely.
the marks are not that big a deal to me but it still irritates me that it happened. I'm thinking of filing those nubs down a bit and see if that makes a difference.
The Following User Says Thank You to Jamace1 For This Useful Post:
All of the "scratches" from my case have wiped off. It looks like the hard finish on the xoom is wearing away the rubber, not the rubber marking the device. I have been using it since launch. It is all not as difficult to snap off as the video show. When in stand mode it is a bit wobblely and some times the case will slide up and push the volume down button in. I am fairly happy with the case over all but I may take off the nubs.

Well at the end of the day the quantity and quality of cases is going to depend on how many Xooms get sold. I would imagine sales will take off more well once the WiFi only version gets released, and more stock of the 3G version gets produced... and hopefully that will result in a larger choice of cases with more features such as cut outs for the ports, along with greater build quality.

I am hoping so as I need protection for the Xoom but dont like screen protectors etc... but do want something in case of a drop.

Wow !!
THANKS for posting this unboxing video.
Based on this video, I just cancelled my order for this case on Amazon. I updated their product description with a link to your YouTube video as well. I tried to post a product review but the site wouldn't allow a product review for a product not yet released. I will post a review when it is allowed.
Can't begin to describe how pi$$ed I would be if my new Xoom was scratched by an OEM case that is meant to prevent scratches.
A complete disaster in the making. Motorola / Verizon should be ashamed for not doing a more thorough vetting of this design and supplier of a product shipped with THEIR name on it.
I got the portfolio case and it's ok. I'll be getting a better one when they're available.
As for the thing scratching...I'm not worried about that. That's actually the *job* of the thing, wouldn't you say? ...taking the scratches and dings instead of letting the Xoom take the damage?
But, I don't like that there's no cut-outs for the various plugs. It won't fit in the "standard dock" with the thing on unless you unclip the Xoom and let the cover flop over the back.
I'm not thrilled with the notion that I have to actually unclip part of the Xoom to use the stand portion.
I'm not a fan of the "side clips" because when I fold the cover back to work..those things create a "lump" that won't let the thing lie flat.
So...it's OK for now. But it will be replaced when something better comes along.
I can confirm that the markings made on the edges were from the nubs in the portfolio case and the Xoom's shell is unaffected. The shell is stronger than the case's nubs. I wiped it off and the Xoom looks brand new. I am assuming that after some time and constant use that the nubs will wear down to be more of a comfortable fit with the Xoom. It's the best looking case out there for the Xoom, IMO, but still not the most practical. I would like one that looks as good as this one but with considerations for charging while still in the case.
I think this case is great. My only gripe is you can't charge it with the case on but I was thinking of drilling a small hole on the bottom for it. But big deal, I need to open the case. Not a deal breaker for me. However, I do think it should be only $25, not $40. I don't mind the markings on the side, they rub off. As with all my devices, as long as the screen is clear of scratches, I'm fine. I don't resell my devices any way. And it works great if I want to use the case as a stand.

It appeared very cheap the first day I go it. Rigid to get in and out for a while. But now, it's kind of growing on me. I like all the flexibility it provides (flat, angles, closed.
I actually like it now.

I'm disappointed with the design and I'll be taking it back. Actually I'm disappointed in general that the Xoom isn't really design to be plugged in while you use it. Maybe a third party will design a case that uses the dock power contacts and lets you plug it in somewhere other than right on the bottom. You would think years of laptop design experience would have helped here. The fact that the OEM case can't charge folded up at night makes no sense. ESPECIALLY since the cradle is purpose built to accept the Xoom with the silicone skin installed. WTF? Include charging with one cae and not the other? I would say the design is 80% there. They had the right idea, but didn't think it all the way through. I have no issue with it looking or feeling cheap. As long as it functions.
I have been using the folio for over a week now and quite like it. Once you decide how to best manipulate it for various uses it works well. Really like the quick fold and carry as it fits the hand securely. Biggest drawback is recharging.
I think this case is great. My only gripe is you can't charge it with the case on but I was thinking of drilling a small hole on the bottom for it.
I was actually thinking of doing the same thing, lol. The case is functional, albeit sometimes flimsy, but it works nonetheless. The charging issue is what really kills it for me.
I got the folio case and love it. It works we'll for what I need. I haven't had the scratching issue that others have mentioned here. The only thing I don't like is that there is no charging hole in it to charge with the case closed.
