Default Can't get into recovery or fastboot.

I'm working on rooting a Motorola Xoom I recently purchased from eBay. I have the tools and whatnot needed but I can't get into fastboot. I've read online to do so you have to rapidly press volume down while it's booting up. This just takes me into safe mode. Can I disable safe mode so I can get into fastboot or recovery?

I think its up once, then it gives you options. You have to press up down volume to scroll through them, I'm not sure if helps.

I found the issue. It's the Family Edition.
