ok, so im new to the android platform, but i have a couple of questions. First about widgets. I'm assuming these are pretty battery intensive, but are they draining battery when im not even on their page? so if i have a page full of widgets, but i dont actually go to that page on my xoom, will they drain the battery at all?

Second, and more importantly, is there an app that creates a battery profile for on the go (like power saver mode) that would do something like dim the screen, turn off all widgets, and stop running things in the background, so lets say i was on the plane watching a movie, it would only use the basic resources necessary to play that movie and NOTHING else, all at the flip of a switch.

I don't know about your power app but widgets only use battery when they are updating and even then it's not that bad. I only have 11 widgets right now but I can still get over 10 hours.

You can go into settings>accounts and sync> and uncheck background data if you want to stop mail from syncing and widgets/apps from updating

I get 10-11 hours on mine consistantly with flash enabled and widgets running :-)

I haven't been brave enough to try it yet on the Xoom. But Tasker works great for managing all sorts of things like screen brightness and turning on and off other services on the Droid X. I honestly haven't felt the need for strict battery management on the Xoom.

Perhaps someone else could share their Tasker experiences on the Xoom.

yeah, im not really concerned w battery either, but i do have a few widgets that i dont use at all, i just leave them to remind me that im waiting for them to get updated to honeycomb, and i didnt want to leave them if they actually ARE eating battery. I also really only want a "poweresaver mode" for that one circumstance... on the plane.

For plains just put on airplane mode and adjust the screen brightness and you are good to go.

and honestly that's what you should be doing on a plane anyways, that's what it's for. (btw it's plane not plain) If you go to settings/about tablet/battery use it will tell you exactly what has been using the batt (which has always been +90%ish the screen every time i've checked it)
