My Xoom is not turning on. Before dinner, after using it for a half hour just fine, I put it in standby with a quick press of the power button, just like I always do. After dinner, I kicked back to check out the news and emails and a quick press of the power button did nothing. I pressed it a few more times, and them tried a long press. Nothing. After several long presses and still nothing, I am at a loss as to what to do next.

Any ideas on what happened and how to wake it back up? What the heck did I do?

I should add - the battery was fine when I turned it off. It was nearly full. But just in case I had plugged it in after the issue came up but still no response.

OK - I just did a Google search and came across this:

Forced reboot - hold the volume up button - down, and then long press the power button.

Seems to be rebooting now.....

What the heck causes this to do this? This is just bizzarr....

Various things can cause this issue, but it should be rare.
One issue I've seen addressed is an apparent bug in the Amazon Kindle app that causes the screen to malfunction... The device is actually up and running, but since the screen stays off, it appears "dead." In this case, the issue will eventually "cure itself" when the battery finally dies, or you do what you did: power+UP volume to reset.
I was using the Kindle App quite a bit on Monday and left Kindle running when the Xoom went to "sleep." When I came back a few hours later, it was in the same state. It just wouldn't wake up.
Unfortunately for me, I thought the hard reset keybutton sequence was "Power + DOWN volume." I kept trying and trying and nothing would happen. Finally got online with my DroidX and discovered my memory had failed me. Power + UP volume reset the phone immediately, no problems.

That seems ot make some sense. I can't be sure now if I used the Kindle app just before that, but I think I did. I down loaded a book and checked it out from the app. I think at this point it may have been that point in time.

Whats most annoying is having no idea what happened but knowing I just spent $600 on this thing and I sure as heck hope it did not turn into a brick.

I have also seen the case on my xoom press the volume down button and I could not do anything with the power button only realized what it was by taking the xoom out of the case and it booted right up not sure if this is your issue but something to watch out for
