Default Rooting or updating

Hi.

I'm new in the Android phones and these days I'm going to buy Sony U so I wanted to ask you few questions...

Why do you root your phones? What is it that you acctually get when you root phone? Does the phone work faster?

Is it possible to root Sony U to Android 4.1?

What version of Android is faster 2.3 or 4.0. I know that this phone has only 512 MB of RAM so is it good idea to update to 4.0?

And the last question is, is it better to root and update phone know or to wait for official ICS update?

Thanks and sorry for my Engrish.

Before we start, rooting your phone voids your warranty.

Here is a link which explains what root is/being rooted means.

By rooting your phone you can install custom ROM's (a ROM is the software on the phone) - these are usually less process intensive, so mean that your phone runs faster. Custom ROM's are updated faster than stock ROM's, as the ROM developers do not have to go through all the red tape that a company does.

I am not familiar with your phone, so cannot guarantee anything... I realize that it is quite a new phone, hut have had a quick look for you - here is a link to a root method.

It isn't that one version of Android is necessarily faster than another. Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) is an older version and Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) is a newer version (there has actually been another version - Jelly Bean - that has only just come out).

The choice would be yours and would depend on whether you are prepared to void your warranty. I rooted my phone pretty much as soon as I got it and never looked back, but I did have a good understanding of what I was doing. If you wait for the official update, then you will know that your warranty would still be valid

Hope you find this place useful... let us know if you do root your phone and I can get the root method added to the sticky
