Default Jelly Bean 4.1+

Hey guys, I've got news that isn't particular to us but could be good for us at the same time. As some of you may already know a post on Boost's website showed that the Venice, Rush, and Warp Sequent would be getting jelly bean 4.1. Of course it was taken down immediately and thought to be a mistake. Here's the good news, Venice owners have been popping up saying that they are officialey running Jelly Bean 4.1 via an OTA update. On top of that, Samsung has released the Jelly Bean 4.1 kernel for the Rush which likely means a JB OTA update is on its way. The Sequent is lagging behind but I assume ZTE is just keeping things under wraps. What does this mean for the Boost Force though? Being that this phone is one of Boost Mobile's most eligible phones for the update (hell Boost put their name on it), do you guys think we should be seeing an update soon? A Boost rep said that the Venice, Rush, and other devices should receive the JB update from May 16th-23rd. Fingers crossed and have patience. Also, tell me what you guys think..

Cant say butter smooth doesn't sound good though lol. But ICS is alright. At Google I/O there was talk that Google wanted to start getting most if not all androids to the latest software. Of course its up to the manufacturer and carrier but Google wants everyone to have the best of what they got and not the shadow of it. A lot of phones are shipped out with Gingerbread still to this day and will never see an upgrade. Its almost sad... but its good to know that Google has at least said something about it.

yeah my wife has a s2 and she went from GB to ICS to JB, THe JB fixed the problems that ICS had thank god I was fixin to trade hers in when JB came out. She stuggled for months with glitches to ics then they sent an update 2 mo before JB and wiped her phone out, I was so mad.
I would welcome it if I didn't already have Root/Cust Recovery but most likely an update would fail with a CR.

That would be awesome. I am not complaining about ICS, I was running Gingerbread less than a month ago on the Prevail. However, I have been waiting for the Force to get that JB update. I did contact ZTE support not too long ago. In short, they told me to contact my carrier (Boost) about the inquiry. Unfortunately, I don't think that we will be getting JB when the others do. The Venice and others have been with Boost for a while now as opposed to the Force and One Sv which are relatively new. This is a sign that JB is in the near future though.

I can wait, but we better be getting 4.2.2, I would love boost forever <3

On a more serious note, the JB update could not only bring new features but fix other ones as well. I love the stock camera but the shutter sound is so freaken loud. I also like the touch and hold to unlock feature, but I wish they would give us the stock slide to unlock for 4.0 (or 4.1) especially because if we get 4.2, I want to use that widget unlock. And one last minor request is to have the option to be able to turn the am/pm off. I guess you could say I'm trying to make this thing the ZTE Nexus lol

Default Root to Jellybean?

Hello everyone

I am completely new to the smartphone scene so I have a few questions. My wife just got a Boost ZTE Force phone and I wanted to upgrade her to the latest OS. Is that possible with rooting the phone?

I tried going into the settings and did a firmware upgrade but it said there was none. Can I upgrade the OS myself or do I have to wait for boost to push one to the phone?

Thanks for your patience.

Sorry, you'll have to wait for Boost. We have root for the phone but we haven't started any development work yet so 4.1 and 4.2 are currently not available. It's still a solid phone though so your wife should be okay with 4.0 in the meantime. New phones like this usually take a little while to get some traction but trust me we're getting there.

I've noticed that with all the releases of android they just get dumber and dumber. They keep screwing the pooch and making the new releases more of a pain in the arse then they are worth.

I believe the dev community who does it for free on their time does a much better job of knowing intuitevly what a user needs rather then what they "MAY" want

I hate to liken it to windows but it is simalar....gives us windows 8.1 so we can work on 8, give us win7 sp1 so we can make the original better.

Android is skipping generations so we can make the previous ones better

As far as a 4.1 update goes, the One SV on cricket just got updated and the european version just got updated. The Boost Mobile One SV Should be next, i did take the liberty and ported over the Cricket One SV rom so the Boost users now have 4.1 but rumor has it there should be an OTA in the coming weeks. So there might be hope for you guys yet, don't hold me to it. You also have to look at ZTE's long standing track record of releasing a phone and letting it flail.

I'll tell you this, I do NOT want an upgrade at all. All they are doing is trying to break root. The One already come with 4.1.
We need to figure out how to prevent any updates that are pushed to a phone. Believe me the experience we have had with the S2 was pretty bad!!!!!

OK, After doing some research it turns out that this phone will never and I repeat never receive a system update from any carrier. Don't shoot the messenger my friends as this is only my personal opinion. If and I stress If ZTE wishes to build a JB rom for this phone it will only be done thru the ZTE tool or a custom rom.

What are the benefits of JB? I rooted my phone and turned off most of the 3D stuff and animation anyways.

The only noticeable feature I have seen is the split screen ability on the S4. I'm sure there is some more thing tho I haven't gotten to explore yet.
LOL the ability to have a dropped call is still there but I assume that is the sprints network failure. ...

As someone mentioned, the interface is a lot smoother because jellybean instituted Project butter. Project butter adds to the speed and simplicity of ICS for JB.

Some of the major changes with Jellybean are:
Improved system performance

Faster orientation changes

Quicker switching between recent apps

Smoother and more consistent rendering across the system through vsync and triple buffering.

Boosts your devices CPU instantly when you touch the screen to improve speed, and turns it down when you dont need it to improve battery life.

Major improvements to the Browser to increase its performance with CPU and memory. Also, there is now HTML5 video support for the browser and an updated Java script (v8) which results in less loading and smoother movement.

A redisgned camera app and improved gallery with many new tools such as photo sphere (360 images), HDR (for devices that support it), and a photo editing tool.

A redisgned clock that includes analog and digital. Also, a world clock feature.

Improved keyboard

Improvements to Face Unlock

Lock screen can have widgets.

Google Now which acts as your event organizer/personal assistant. This is similar to Siri from iOS but Google Now has the power of the various tools that Google has developed. You can search for comparison videos between the two.

There are many more new features and changes but I found these to be some of the most important ones.

Just an update, got official news that the sequent JB OTA will be rolling out starting monday. The 4g LTE phone HTC one sv is also getting to update to 4.1 starting on the 11th. Since the ZTE Force is one out of the 3 phones that has LTE capabilities, I wouldn't be surprise to see that you guys get updated to 4.1 too. Its just gonna take some time knowing ZTE. Hope to see you guys on 4.1 with us by fall.

Android 6.0 will be realeased by time ZTE gets to this update lol. Which s why when yiu purchase a phone look at the manufacturers track record. Samsung upgrades most if not all of their devices (cough *the prevail* cough), LG promised at least one upgrade for all if their devices which is exteremely reassuring. Motorola has made a change so who knows but ZTE lets their devices blow in the wind without looking back at them. Notice how long it took them to get to the sequent. The sequent is almost 100% stock android so its not like ZTE was working on a system ui upgrade (like HTC does with sense or Samsung does with Touchwiz). All im saying is to upgrade the force should not be a 2-3 year process when HTC can upgrade the One SV to 4.1 with Sense layered over it.

Lol the only reason why the prevail was even updated to gingerbread is because the reviews were horrible and the were countless of problems with the phone GB didn't fix them all but it certainly helped. Please remember that the manufacturer doesn't have all the say whether a phone gets the next android OS upgrade. The carrier has input on it as well. The carrier tells the manufacturer whether they want the phone to be updated to the next android version or not. This agreement between the carrier and manufacturer is usually done before the phone is actually released unless, its urgent after the release.. So somewhere in boost secret files there's probably something that says whether the Force will ever get the next android OS update. Also keep in mind that even though it might take long while for an update to come. Its a huge process. It took almost 10 months after the release of the sequent to finally get JB. Compiling bug fixing looking for bugs etc. Then its sent off to the carrier for testing. Yes the carrier has to test the new update with their networks for a good 2-3 months. A while back when someone asked ZTE what's taking so long with the sequent update, the Rep replied saying that sprint is now testing for approval.

I'm not disagreeing with you I will admit ZTE is crap when it comes to stuff like these including releasing their source but point blank, we aren't one of their flagship devices so we're not exactly that important we won't get updates as fast as the device they care about would its just all a money making busy.

I totally agree, but all im saying is why update almost all of your latest devices your showcasing for sale to JellyBean except for the Force which btw they call the BOOST force. Even the Warp deserved an update to ICS but that never happened and from my POV after having both the prevail and warp, the prevail on froyo was way better of than the warp in general lol. I underatnad the process but like you said, an update is a 2 way street. Sprint may have given ZTE the OK to update the force but its up to ZTE at that point to get to work (which they wont -_-). My main problem with this whole situation is how the force and one SV came out on the same day. Fast track 4 months later, the Force has not seen one single update while the One SV is getting jellybean :P the phone game is a tough one to play.

P.S.: thanks for clearing up the process, almost completely forgot carrier involvement in my first post

Hahah yeah, I bet you that they would have updated the warp to ICS but I'm assuming that the son if a guns already had plans to make the sequent. I think that you and I can both agree that the prevail and warp are probably boost worst android phones ever released. Which is why they made up for it buy releasing the sequent and now they are dropping the prevail 2. Have you heard? Deff a major spec upgrade from the original prevail. Yeah ZTE sucks and they're slower than a turtle.

I'm waiting to see how long before they release. The jb kernel source for the sequent. Might have to slap them in the face with a class action lawsuit to remind them that its required to release their sources by law.

ZTE is a nuisance. I would love to see them in court lol. And as far as the Prevail II, it is one hell of an upgrade from the original, the only thing that is not making want to give it my wallet is no 4G (wimax or LTE). I might just chill with the one SV, its a pretty solid device and jelly bean is nothing to complain about. What phone do you use currently or are planning on getting?

I'm with the sequent, great phone horrible manufacturer lol. I upgraded from the transform ultra and on the inside the specs of both phones are kind of similar. Same processor but the ultra is clocked at 1ghz with 512mb of ram while the sequent is clocked at 1.4 GHz and 76mb of ram and the ultra preforms better than the sequent to be honest. I think that shows you how much ZTE polishes their system before release compared to Samsung. While the ultra was technically running my awesome rom MegaTron the sequent is right now on stock with a few tweaks. I refused to build a Megatron in ICS for it. Overall ICS is truly buggy. So I'm just waiting on that butter smooth UI and hope that ZTE did it right before I start MegaTron for it.
