Default net10 user in need of fix - SD card

I bought the this ZTE merit (Z990G) as a last ditch effort to keep my smartphone use within a semi reasonable budget. Problem is, the SD card that comes with the phone removes most of the data that is put on it any time I turn off the phone.

Regardless of the app, all that remains after powering down and then powering up of the phone is an inaccessible file much smaller than the original app.

I could leave my important apps on my phone's internal storage, as when I clear out all the pre-loaded junk, I have nearly 100 megs of space...... Which brings me to my next problem.

Google Play keeps redownloading Google Play Books, Music, Google Search, and Documents to Go, which represents about 40 mB of useless apps that I have no need for. I can't block it from redownloading them.

My final issue is with the phone itself, which may warrant my returning it.

It is forciing me to only run Android version 2.3.5.... with no ability to update the Android OS.

Help me before this phone becomes a target for my 12 gauge. Please.

First off welcome to the forums

I have moved this thread into the ZTE Merit forums to receive some better assistance.

Otherwise have you thought about purchasing a new SD card because it sounds like you might have a bad one. You can get them pretty cheap off Amazon.

Yeah, I could buy a new one. Thanks, for the move as well, went through the forum listing and didn't see a Merit one. Must still be blind as I am ugly.

There are ROMs/Recoveries/Kernels made for this phone with the 'cruft' removed already, plus ways to make the /data partition inside the phone alot larger.

Look in:
http://androidforums.com/avail-all-things-root/ (Avail is same as Merit, except way to root)
http://androidforums.com/merit-all-things-root/

I've made a full 'package' that takes care of all the things you're talking about:
Come get them all at Android Area51

Google will help, too.

Your package doesn't solve any of his problems.

1. Probably get a new SD card.
2. Open play store. Hit menu key go to settings. Uncheck auto update.
3. As of now this phone only runs 2.3.5. That may change.

We are working on it over there (versions above 2.3.5), alot harder than you might think.

Takes time, tho.

Not alot of 'big time' interest in doing it from the 'other dev forums', so it's a very small group working on the Z990 series right now.

But we ARE making progress

Keep an eye out after the New Year
