Accessories just got my two new batteries and battery battery dock delivered from Hong Kong for $12

You just gotta watch sometimes that the stuff coming from over there is crap... I'm not saying that the stuff you got is crap, but there are ALOT of complaints about it being junk... Just FYI

For the price though, two batteries AND a charger, hell I spent that at lunch today.

Even if you get 2/3rd, hell even 1/3 the battery life of the OEM HTC, two of them would make a good emergency back up to have in the car, on a trip etc for when maybe you couldn't use a car charger or get to a wall jack.

That said, for you guys that have these, whats the average charge time for these batteries on this charger? I just got mine in the mail about an hour ago, been on the charger about an hour now. I'm still looking at a pretty pink'ish/red'ish charging light, no green yet!

:D

3 to 5 hours. No joke. If you want faster charging use the phone to charge. Not that big a deal to me.

The only thing I'd be worried about knockoff batteries would be the battery exploding while its in your phone. I'm not sure how common that is though.

DING DING DING!

We have a winner... these batteries have no overheat protection and they also lack the circuit that protects it from leaking/exploding. Now this shouldn't just magically happen but it can and if it ever does with no protection whatsoever in place it could go bad. You could suffer a mild scare up to and including losing an eye if the thing blows up in your face while you're holding it against your ear. It would cost them way too much to install any type of protection on these batteries and they wouldn't make any profit, in fact 90% of all cellphone batteries that blow up come from ebay Chinese sellers. I'd be careful not to try and save 30-40 bucks and end up losing your phone or something much more valuable.

Also side note thee batteries are not 1500mah, they might claim to be but you'll be lucky if they hit 1100 when you measure them, all chinese knockoffs are hundreds of mah underpowered.

Was trying to decide between this and siedio's 3500mah battery thats comming out. But $70 vs $10 out wieghted the inconviece of switching batteries. Plus no hump in the back.

Easy to understand why, one has circuit protection the other one will just heat up to the point of either exploding or leaking. Not to mention their power rating when compared to name brand OEM batteries. People still don't get it but you get what you pay for.

Think I'm full of it?

That battery actually had protection and it still failed somewhat he did crush it with a carseat could have been a bad batch too, but these have 0 protection so yeah...

Plenty of cases online just Google some more here is another.

I bought the batteries and charger just to have the wall battery charger. I already had a spare oem battery for the hero, so I now have 4 batteries. I am skeptical to use the knock off batteries so I'll stick with the stock evo and stock hero battery.

The wall charger is convenient and works. I charge over night so the long wait to charge is not inconvenient. It was a bargain.

all the claims you are saying about this battery package...about it not having any protection, etc...what source are you quoting from that states this particular battery package that everyone is getting offers no protection from overcharging, etc..?

you do know OEM batteries have imploded and exploded too? this does not only apply to generic batteries.

batteries exploding are not common and are usually caused by human error. the gizmodo article you listed does not say the battery was a generic so why post that here? and from looking at the photos and the guys story, it seems more human error on his part more so than the phone. i mean if the phone was on a table or seat and just blew up thats one thing , however this phone the guy had slid in between the seat, the seat slid back crushing the phone and stressing the battery pack... i can see why the battery did what it did...

i have been using this ebay battery system for a few days now. i had the battery in the phone and had the phone charging in the car. it got really hot in the vehicle and the charging was suspended due to heat. i didn't meant for that to happen and why the phone was in the car is not important to this post. my point here is these batteries and many other generics have over charge protection. its super cheap to install this tech into the battery packs. some of these oem batteries are made on the same lines as generics. simply quoting unfortunate articles form the internet does not really prove your point about THIS particular battery package.

the other article you mentioned does not specify if it was a generic or oem battery. the report also stated 83 reported cases of battery explosions.. out of how many phones are out there? millions? laptop batteries explode, car batteries explode.. etc etc.... this is not only unique tro cell packs...

believe it or not, todays battery tech is very stable as long as consumers follow good safe usage tips, which your last article spoke about. the consumer needs to understand the dangers of these cell packs and how heat and physical damage can make the cell pack unstable.. this applies to OEM as well as generic...

what if these batteries were 50 bux? would this make you feel better purchasing? what if htc sold their batteries at 12 dollars a piece? would you automatically call them cheap knock offs?

people should stop slinging negative posts about inexpensive batteries. this tech is so old that the companies have made their profit on the tech and can sell batteries for cheap.

Thank you marctronixx. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. I hate it, absolutely HATE it when people post false/misleading/ or completely unsourced information solely with the intention of scaring other users. Nothing angers me more on a forum.

Thank you for, ONCE AGAIN, making sure that type of post doesn't sit unchallenged. Very well done.

im glad you asked the question.. :D

of the tops, the ebay ad states there is fault protection. they would be doing false advertising if this was not true.

"but marctronixx this is ebay, people lie on ebay all the time.."

ok ok ok... so lets say the ad did not mention this (which would be foolish..)

Lithium Ion technology is highly unstable! period. you can google that and read it. in order to harness the energy Li-Ion cells produce, you MUST.. MUST... MUST have safety protocol's i place, otherwise the moment that battery pack reaches a certain temp the pack can produce whats called "thermal runaway" at the worse extreme of the breakdown of the cell pack.

this is what happeed a few years ago when dell had that recall on the sony cells in the laptops that were combusting. when the ion material breaks the confines of the structure and mix with air, its explodes. sony , who made those batteries, stated there were some bits of metal left in the cell packs during manufacture and a certain batch of ion packs had to be recalled...

and SONY is a BRAND NAME supplier of batteries and they had that big media circus over it.. im sure you guys and gal remember that. one exploded on a plane, one battery combusted in a meeting (i think its on youtube)... which proves even the best batteries can have issues..

"marc your digressing..."

ooh yes apologies...

ok.. yeah,so in order to harness that power lithium ions can produce they need to have safety precautions in place. this is paramount. you can not produce these packs without them.. lithium ions and heat do NOT work together (think old VW bug magnesium engines and water!). some packs mayhave more additional features but they ALL have some. most of them have circuitry that senses when voltage (and the heat associated with it) gets to a threshold. this circuit kicks in and stops charging.

there are other features (vents to let heat escape for example) incorporated to prevent overcharging, high current draw (this can cause heat really fast), etc. these are all required when handling/manufacturing lithium ion battery cells. Lithium ion tech has been out for over 25 years and its matured battery tech. all the companies know the pros and cons to it.. its no secret. the smaller the battery the more robust the prevention circuitry needs to be im plemented as the area is smaller and therefore heat will increase, not to mention a mobile phone's hot CPU right under the battery!

and as a unscheduled test, i had left the EVO in the car this past sat. the heat in the cabin was in the 90s as it was 97 outside. i left the phone charging via cig socket which is more current than laptop charging.

naturally the phone was indeed warm/hot. the battery pack had stopped charging due to high temps and the flashing light on the evo (all htc handsets i have had do this amber flashing light) was blinking to let me know the phone was too hot to continue charging...

search the net and you will find this info. overcharging/over-current/overheat protection is a MUST....

this info is all over the internet.

I'm actually on your side marctronixx, but if you're asking SebastianX for his source on his information, I have to ask your source. How do you know these batteries (which I have also ordered, btw) DO have protection?

2x 1500mAh battery + dock charger for Sprint HTC Evo 4G - eBay (item 250641711190 end time Jun-29-10 01:08:58 PDT)

Yep, ordered on a Thursday evening 06/17/10 and received it on the following Tuesday morning 06/22/10. Only five days from Hong Kong. The batteries are marked "Replacement For HTC TouchPro2". Switched out the OEM battery and been charging the EVO from the adaptor's usb port. No problems so far - love the purple night light on the adaptor.

Got mine a couple days ago. They take about 3 hrs or so to charge. I started putting one through its paces and it didnt seem to discharge any faster than the stock battery...not sure if that trend would last all the way down to 0% or not though. Im guessing you can probably only charge/discharge these a fraction of the times you can with the OEM Battery, but thats just a guess.

Either way, for 11 bucks, cant beat this for a backup battery unless it explodes in your face :D

It is an awesome deal, but I can't bring myself to even spend 10 bucks for extra batteries. I was going to a few weeks ago when this forum had me all nervous about battery life, but mine has been excellent. I'm waiting on a bundle that has other stuff that I could use with it. If some seller had a bundle with the batteries + charger, a micro-HDMI cable, a few screen protectors, and a dual outlet USB car charger (the kind where I supply the cable), I'd be all over it.
