need some help with phone locking behavior, good peoples. here's what i'd like to end up with:

1. always wake based on volume OR power button
2. when on phone - no locking at all, (additionally wake based on orientation like is done currently)
3. some sort of "lock phone" widget on home screen for manual lock
4. auto-lock timer set to say...5 minutes (longer than sleep timer)
5. sleep/screen-off timer set to 30 seconds
6. disable the slide lock (sense UI?) and only use the pattern lock. why do i have to power button wake, slide unlock, then pattern unlock my phone after it goes to sleep after 30 seconds, it's ridiculous! i want to pick it up press a volume key and put my pattern in - after 5 minutes. before 5 minutes i want to just pick it up and wake it unless it was manually locked.

i'll root it if that's what it takes. this is pissing me off daily.

thanks,
Leon

1: you don't want that change. If you leave it running a media app like last.fm while it goes to sleep you can still change the volume without even waking the phone from sleep because of this.

2: mine doesn't lock if I'm actually using it / on a call, what do you mean?

3: press the power key

4/5: whatever

6: if you don't actually have a lock pattern, the slide is what keeps you from pressing buttons in your pocket.

well, a lot of these configurations you're wanting are conflicting.
lockbot pro will take care of #4

no lock will prob take care of #6

there won't be any way to disable slide to unlock and have a pattern unlock i don't believe.

well, YOU dont want that. i do, because i dont use it as a media player.

you might be right. it was probably already locked and i just accepted a call from the lock screen and then went to try to use data and saw it still active behind the phone screen after talking for 10-15 mins. still kinda annoying, but i can't come up with a sensible alternative ATM.

press the power key
yeah, i have the dumb.

4/5: whatever
umm, sorry, no. sleep and auto-lock don't go hand-in-hand for me. i dont want my phone locking if i'm using it intermittently. but i do want it locking if i leave it somewhere for 5 mins. and DO want it to sleep if i leave it alone for 30 secs to save battery.

6: if you don't actually have a lock pattern, the slide is what keeps you from pressing buttons in your pocket.
on the evo it's pretty difficult to press the buttons in your pocket, i've never done it once in the last 3 weeks. and i DO have a lock pattern so i want the slide-lock disabled. i want either a lock pattern OR slide lock, rarely both. but i should be able to disable/enable either as i choose. having just one enabled will prevent button presses anyways - your phone will wake regardless.

1) No Lock: Allows you to Unlock your phone with your POWER button or VOLUME UP button

2) Screebl: Can help with this. It keeps your phone on depending on the orientation.

3) LockMe Widget: A widget that will enable and disable your lock screen.

4) Lock Delay (99cents): Delays lock pattern to automatically enable.
4) Screen Mode Widget Lite: This may help this as well (FREE).

5) In your phone's settings

6) Not sure. Still looking.

These have not been tested in combination. So the results will be unknown.

hope this helps.
