In case anyone needs to use their phone as a modem, try EasyTether! (LOL, no I don't work for them). I'm excited that I can use my phone as a modem now and not deal with the Sprint HotSpot. It actually works with an Evo.

I does not have the same obvious advantage of being a high-speed wifi hotspot that Sprint touts--it's not. But if all you need is a modem, that is USB tethered to your laptop or netbook, this seems to work.

put your flame suit on....

18K bill
hope you get what you deserve
ruining it for others
5 gig limit
tiered data plans

blah blah blah

but I agree with you.... Easytether is great. I use it over PDANet due to the ability to surf https sites. https sites are used to sign into forums, bank accounts, anything secure...

However, the caveat to that is Easytether only allows https surfing for a limited time, before they lock it down, and want you to purchase their keycode that will unlock it. I am a firm believer in free apps, I just don't buy apps..... call it cheap, whatever, I just refuse to do it. So, to get around the blocking of https sites you have a couple of choices

1 - buy the keycode - lol, not going to happen for me, but this is up to you individually
2 - go to a proxy site like ninjaproxy and then you can visit https sites through the http proxy....
3 - I simply uninstall easytether and then reinstall for another free trial.... lol

put your flame suit on....

:( why do I need a flame suit? I thought this was a good thing?

Ok, admittedly I don't read fine print on anything except loans, he he... So I didn't know there were limitations on EasyTether. Actually, I knew about the https thing but for my purposes, it doesn't bother me. It's actually rare that I'll need EasyTether as there is WiFi connection where ever I go--nowadays. But in a pinch, it's not a bad little tool. I told two other people at work about it and they love it so far.

What's whit the 18k bill? Isn't it just a another call to Sprint? (better check that) and why is this ruining it for others? Ruining what?

Thanks.

that's the big debate on droid forums across the https intertubez. lol

You will find a very outspoken group who love to say you are violating T.O.S. they will use fear tactics like saying "you will be charged 18K like 'this guy' did" and post a story about a guy who was tethering 6 years ago, NOT on a droid. They think that applies

Noone can EVER post up a story about a droid user getting their contract cancelled for abuse and being forced to pay early termination fees. If that doesn't slow you down, then their unbased warnings turn into bitterness like

"you're abusing the system and are going to ruin it for everyone else"

And don't even THINK about asking about how to tether your XBox360 to your droid's internet wooooohooooooo

I have cancelled my home internet and tether exclusively at home. I am leaving for Orlando on Saturday, and I'm going to surf the internet while driving down there (lol not really, I'm riding shotgun) I just think everyone can end up double buying the same stuff unnecessarily..... time to consolidate to save money....

I don't want to pay for home phone since I use my cell phone as my main number
My music player on the droid
my camera
my video
my emails
all on the droid

so why wouldn't I want my internet coming from my droid. To me, saying using easytether as your main internet is wrong, is like saying using google talk instead of textmessages so you can reduce your plan's cost is wrong.

it's about managing everything and getting the most bang for your buck
