Question for SWYPE users....

I love swype and am getting used to it. I have it set up as the default entry method in Handcent, but I miss the microphone icon in the touch keyboard, because sometimes "speaking" a text message is convenient. Is there a short cut to use the voice input when using swype, or do I have to hold down on the text entry part and switch to "touch keyboard" each time? If you are using swype and can still use the microphone button, please let me know how.

That functionality is not built into Swype... yet. However, on Handcent just hit the menu button, then select "speak".

I just downloaded Swype yesterday. It's... interesting. When I turn the phone sideways it's far to large to use Swype... I can't use my right thumb to swipe my finger all over the keyboard, say, if I want to hit the q, a, or s. But when vertical, I can use Swype just fine.

It seems more like a novelty to me, though. It's definitely fun and cool, but I don't know if I'm texting any faster. I'll just have to keep trying.

Ive been using swype for a while and can't seem to get used to it I end up just typing in portraitmode with 2 thumbs and I can type pretty fast that way.

I may not be texting faster, but I am texting more accurately and with less effort ... which I guess means I am probably texting faster

I'm new to Android & new to Swype, and Swpe is Scary-Sci-Fi-Cool. I could almost swype with my big toe and it's word prediction would know what I wanted. It's simply amazing.

Out of curiosity (I haven't done any research) I wonder if this technology was originally developed for folks with accessibility issues. This technology would give amputees and others the ability to get quite a bit done.

I'm using Shapewriter. I haven't tried Swype, but understand that they're pretty similar? I'm really liking Shapewriter, and I can tell that as I get more and more proficient with it, my typing speed will continue to increase.

I also agree with the previous poster who mentioned that it's easier to use in portrait mode.

Is there an app out there (I doubt it) that will default my input method to Shapewriter in portrait mode, and stock keyboard for landscape? That would be the best of both worlds! I'd love to be able to switch between the two (for accessing voice input, or typing out a url or proper name) instantly just by tilting my phone between landscape or portrait.
