How bad is your keyboard lag?

This is a stupid question really because I have three EVOs at home, but we all got them from the same place on the same day...

Still, when I use my phone, as stated by others, the keyboard on the EVO is not multitouch... So that brings up quite a bit of problems when typing semi fast... I constantly miss the space bar key, and when I type words, even when the preview of the letter pops up, it will not register on the screen...

A quick test of this when I place my thumbs over two keys and rock the phone i.e. the L and A key, the preview of them keep popping up, but the lalalalalalalalalalalala pattern is not consistent... Also, a batch of ten letters at a time would pop up instead of individually...

I tried this on the other phones too sorta the same deal... Then I tried it on my wife's iPhones3G and it's just instant... No lag, letters popped up as fast as I can contact the key pad...

I tried the IME mod, Smart Keyboard Free (Smart Keyboard is even worst! The lag sometimes were a second inbetween...)

Is there something I need to set? Even when I turn prediction off it's about the same, although I purely use the phone with prediction off now anyways...

I've heard Smart Keyboard recommended a few times already and it truly gives you multitouch, but it is just flipping slow... What tips do you have have? Is there a setting I gotta do to make it butter smooth?

I have mytextspeed downloaded and I score just about 30wpm on average, and even on the record piranhas text I still type about 25 - 30wpm... I know most would say try skype too, but I just feel more inclined to find a better punch keyboard if one is out there...

I avoid typing essays like this on my phone, but that's mostly due to the short comings of the keyboard... I would like to be able to type essays like this tho... Typing URLs are halfway decent thank goodness...

Well, like the Smart Keyboard that has a free trial, does it lag when you rock your fighers between two letters?

Like if you quickly tap lalalalalalalalalalala, is it instant or does it come out in a buffered state? Like 10 letters at a time? The only reason why I ask is because I can actually type like that using actual words... As others have mentioned, typing fast would sometimes skip words, and it'll be OK if it was my finger input, but when I look at the screen typing the same sentence twice, I see each letter preview pop up... However it never translated onto the screen...

The funny thing is, it is somewhat most evident with spacebar... I can miss that quite a few times in a single sentence and I am 100% absolutely sure that it was hit... If I tried to type l l l l l l l l l l l and bunch of lllls would pop up...

There's a beautiful Droid X KB rip from the recent dump. It's multi-touch, and also includes a speech-to-text button. There is a glitch in the number pad, though. Very minor.

OMFG this is awesome... The engadget video of them typing on that KB was SCHWEET!!!

You can still type numbers by long holding right? I do use numbers quite a bit, but I'd say a heck of a lot less than letters and spacebar!!!

Yeah I installed it, and although I can rock it faster than it shows up still, it is certainly fast enough to keep up with my typing speed!!!

I tested by typing "Can this keyboard keep up with me as fast as I can type" and on the stocker, it keep missing space between this and keyboard...

On the X board it made it no problem!!! I turned prediction off on the X keyboard and it actually made it a hair faster still... The keyboard is HUGE though... I didn't like the lack of settings, but you know what? IT IS AWESOME!!!

I miss the long hold alternate key on the stock keyboard right now for numbers and symbols... Didn't see this in the settings...

How fast is your typing speed?

I'm still missing a few keys on the new X dump, but my spaces are good... I don't have words stuck together anymore!!!

I can still type a bit fast sometimes, but it's tolerable vs the stocker...

I never remember my keyboard lagging before I rooted and installed a custom ROM, I really wonder if EVERYTHING is considered when a custom ROM is made. Maybe there IS a legitimate reason when HTC takes months push a software update...

Man, now I keep typing "this" over and over and I get mixed results LOL... I see each letter pop up on preview again and it just does NOT transfer into the screen...

I think I'm going to make a video about this...

I seriously see T H I S pop up... This is aggravating!!!

I think this just proves it's not the keyboards themselves, but HTC's menu lag... Like everything else on this phone it is really hurting from responsiveness... Argh...

I'm still going to use the X dump as my daily though...

Hmm i'm pretty aggrevated. I'm trying to get this to work. From my phone I go to the 9th post from xda site and install. I see the multi-touch check box option. I check it off, but it still won't work. I'm on Bugless 0.3 ROM.

Funny thing is, I've found the stock keyboard to be better than the Droid X mod.

I can do that on EVERY keyboard I've tried tho, so the things that tells me is that the inherent rom on the EVO makes everything lag...

The spacebar is just the worst on the stocker, but the stocker is not bad either... However I do suffer when multitouch isn't on...

The thing is, just from this example of what I can be doing with the EVO (uploading a video I took in less than 10 mins) to youtube, it masks a lot of these "issues" the phone has...

I have faith once the fps lag is gone, the phone will operate like we expect it to..

Is it just me or when I try to type into these reply boxes in this forum or any forum it lags my typing like crazy?

When I use the X keyboard, it's 10x worst... IME as well... Outside of the browser / these forum reply boxes it's ok... Like URL typing...

Maybe I'll make another video...
