Help Is Samsung Moment getting 2.2 anytime soon?

Yep, I'm going with a big "Heck No!" on the Moment getting 2.2.

1) the 910 is already in development, it should see 2.2 before Q4, but Sprint has a lot of bloatware to install over the top of it, so we shall see.

2) Most of the carriers do not want the added features of 2.2 accessible to the end user without paying for them. OTW file transfer, Tethering, WiFi (n), etc... These are all 'bonuses' for end users that the carriers will have to disable to keep charging.

3) The Evo should sport 2.2 sooner than the Moment series. I would be shocked to not see a build for the Evo by the end of June - if not, they will miss the sales window.

4) Even the N1 build is a bit messed up according to early reviews. Until they get it perfect on their own phone, they won't risk sending it out to 3rd parties.

That's about it for the start... For now, enjoy 2.1 and all the yummy goodness that Eclair brought us!

Don't forget, although the Moment was released late in 2009, the phone was designed well before that. Probably as early as February or March...

That makes it 2 years old plus right now. Gotta figure that phones have a 8-12 week market life before being bested by something else. The Moment has hung on like a champ against much more technically advanced devices (and still is holding strong against the Droid, N1 and a few others) but it's getting old. Time for an update - and a giveaway on Sprint's part. Can you say - Free Samsung Moment on 2 year contract?

Wouldn't that make it 1 year old plus?

Also, the Droid came out 5 days after the Moment. So I guess it was top dog for a very short period of time, if ever. :(

My thought...if the Samsung Moment 2 is very similar to the original Samsung Moment 1, why would Samsung not release FroYo for the original Samsung Moment. Flash may not work very well on the original moment, but from what I had read, flash is not integrated into the FroYo software...it is something you have to get from the market.

In addition, when looking at the "About phone" screen, it says Android 2.1 update1...which makes me think that live wallpapers may be enabled in a future update.

My main thought, however, is that since FroYo is supposed to focus on the fragmentation issues that previous versions of Android has, Sprint and Samsung would want their users to have this so that we can leave them alone about when something will be released. And especially since google announced that updates to the Android software will not come out so quickly anymore, why would Samsung and Sprint not want to give us the most recent version, which may be the last version for a several months.

Why would they want to upgrade people's devices. Sprint will not want it upgraded b/c then they can get people to purchase the evo and get them into a new 2 year contract. Thats all sprint really cares about is getting someone into a new contract. New contract = guarenteed money. Also i dont think samsung really cares either. Whey would they want to spend time and money on upgrading the phone? Once the evo drops people will not be pruchasing the moment as sprints best android phone. So samsung will see a decline in sales and get ready to release their next phone. Look at past trends its always been about whats next not what is now. Phones are upgraded every year now a days.

Edit: PS:

Here is an example of someone complaining about how there behold will not get a 2.x update.

I'm going to stick with my answer in the last thread like this and say we'll never get another official update from Sprint. Go to the Instinct forums and ask them if they ever got another update from Sprint on their phones. Samsung phone, Sprint carrier, 1 update to fix a few bugs then they give up on it and expect you to upgrade your phone.

I had the Instinct for almost 2 years during which it got at least 4 updates...and I think it had updates before I got it as well.

You might want to check this thread if you want your answer;
Announcements: Sprint expects to launch Android 2.2 in near future

Specifically;
"
JGatSprint
(SprintEmployee)
says in response to Jeff :

No, it will not. 2.2 will not be available for HTC Hero or Samsung Moment
"
I would probably be a good idea if everyone with a Moment and a Hero responded in that thread that they would really like 2.2.

From what I understand there were a few minor updates just after it was released but in the year or so I had mine there one big highly anticipated update that once it was released that was it. I have tried very hard to forget about that pos crappy phone though so forgive me if I still can't quote version numbers on the updates.

I do remember though that there were plenty of bugs after it and still features that were really needed that we were hung out to dry on.

I think the recent announcement kind of solidifies my opinion too. I've been saying all along that 2.1 would be it for the Moment. I just don't have a high opinion of samsung and sprint in that area.
