My EVO vs iPhone 4 Impressions

So my cousin brought his newly aquired iPhone 4 over and I played with it a little... This isn't going to be an indepth thing, but rather a simple first impression... (probably nothing new for a lot of us)

1) Smoothness... ip4 is so much smoother it's not even funny, however the day I picked up the EVO I already knew what I was getting myself into... Still, I played 3D Homerun Battle on both phones and the unlimited FPS was striking...

2) Screen size... The ip4 IMO still loses in this department, no matter how nice (and it is pretty nice) the screen is, it just does not do it for me...

3) Resolution... The new ip4 screen IS pretty nice looking... Still, I'm just going to leave it at that LOL...

4) The phone does have issues to work out... 3DHB when ran from multitask menu last sound operations during the batting sequence, and his phone does lose signal when you hold it in your hand with your palm touching the left corner. However, it didn't drop the call...

5) Facetime, it's smooth... More smooth than Qik on Wifi, resolution is decent too... However, it only works on Wifi... My cousin said skype works on 3G for him tho...

6) Feel, the form feels almost too sharp, it's light, way lighter by feel than EVO, I'd say overall I like it, but prefer the way the EVO feel more...

7) Keyboard sensitivty / overall touch sensitivity, hands down ip4 pwns EVO... Just words can't describe the pwnage...

I have to say, I'm pretty impressed by the new iPhone, I think if I had either I'd be happy, but more happy with EVO... Ofcourse the keyboard sensitivity and FPS is still my only quirks...

I'll have more when I play with it more...

I'm in such a terrible predicament and I don't like it.

I left AT&T and my iPhone 3GS just four days before the iPhone 4 was announced. What a terrible decision that was. I sold my AT&T branded Nexus One and my iPhone 3GS and paid off my AT&T ETF and bought myself an EVO 4G. Days later, the iPhone 4 was announced at WWDC. At first, I wasn't sold on the iPhone 4. The fact that the phone is made of glass was just simply laughable to me. I left the iPhone universe for Android because of how open and customizable it is. I never thought I'd say that I miss the iPhone. That's not to say that Android sucks, because Android is AMAZING, but something about the iPhone just rubs me the right way. (Nevermind the fact that the iPhone keyboard will NEVER be beaten)

I really just don't the lag on the EVO. The iPhone is SO much more fluid and intuitive. Just, bleh.

So here I sit with an EVO with a separated screen and TONS of dust particles under the glass in the upper left hand corner, and an urge to return my EVO and try and talk to AT&T to reactivate my account and refund my ETF and the pre-order an iPhone 4, which will hopefully have all of its kinks worked out by the time I get it. Definitely a terrible situation to be in, eh?

This is far from unnecessary. It's an Android forum (obviously), yes. However, it's also a place for people to talk about their dislikes of their devices. I'm simply comparing the EVO to the iPhone and how I think the iPhone is still just slightly superior to any Android phone on the market.

And i feel the EVO in its current state is a really bad example of what Android can do. It's pretty sad my moment is more fluid than the EVO, despite much less processing power/RAM. HTC needs to get on this and fix it.

They really do. For as much RAM and processing power that this phone has, the OS is SO sluggish.

I was in your same boat. I might still be. I played with the iPhone 4G for quite a while today. The 'fluid' nature of the phone (I call it polish) is unbeatable and something Android will aspire to over time. The value of that polish is really high. It changes your 'experience' with the phone.

For me it has come down to these things:

• Sprint is better where I live.
• I prefer the screen size of the Evo (ALMOST same resolution)
• I've been running Froyo since I got the phone

That's it... that's all the is keeping me on Android. I'm not really a fan of either camp so you won't hear me talking up either one. The iPhone is a better experience when it comes to polish. Everywhere in the OS. It had taken me a couple weeks to adjust and accept the sluggishness of Android and accept the shortcomings. I'm running Froyo which is a rooted version of the OS. Bugs should be expected. But, surprisingly it is quite stable. Even with the speed enhancements the phone is seriously lacking. Yet... Froyo is probably the only thing that kept me holding on to Evo.

The iPhone is an elegant and beautiful piece of technology. It is well thought out in both hardware and software. It's simplicity is what gives it such diverse usability. While it leaves you clinging for more; it delivers in what it does.

Android delivers where the iPhone is lacking. (Right now) it comes at a cost of accepting its inadequacies. Yet, I think Android has the most to benefit from the growing user base and software updates coming in the future. You can hold the same Evo 4G and have a brand new user experience on the Evo in one year. All with a simple update to the OS. The iPhone has reached a plateau in innovation. While the iPhone 4 is amazing it was not a huge leap from the 3GS. Not as much as a 2G -> 3G or 3G -> 3GS. I don't see a huge change in experience coming in their foreseeable future. Mainly because Steve has put his steak in the ground and dictated that what-you-see-is-what-you-get.

It saddens me how emotionally invested people are in these forums. The acknowledgement of a job-well-done by Apple cannot be said in these forums without the immature lashings of an immature minority. I see no reason you guys can't question your commitment to Android. Ultimately, through discussion and experiences, you must make the right choice for you.

Everyone should read this, time and time again.

Sprint is SO much faster where I live when it comes to data, but I've had problems receiving text messages on time and that's it really. AT&T data in my area was just horrendous and a HUGE part of the reason I left for Sprint, the EVO was the rest of the reason.

I'll admit that I wasn't a huge fan of FaceTime when the iPhone 4 was announced, but now that I know developers will be able to dig into the features and add it into their own applications, I may change my mind on that, as well.

I'm not talking about keyboard lag. At all. The keyboard on the EVO works just fine for me. That doesn't mean it's on-par with the iPhone's keyboard, though, because it's not.

In terms of lag, I'm speaking about the overall responsiveness and fluidity of the operating system it self. The menus, the way things open, ect.

Sigh.... I am not saying you can't have an opinion but the creation of a new thread for it is unecessary.. I have zero problems with Apple and the iPhone. Good for them. It isn't for me though just like Android isn't for everyone and Windows Mobile isn't for everyone. It is not emotional investment, I just hate that every time I open this forum now it is iPhone vs Evo. Look my point is this.. If you prefer the iPhone then go get an iPhone. I am not saying that sarcastically or in any tone. It is a simple thing. Why keep something you are having problems with (and no I am not speaking to everyone in this thread) and sit around and complain about it and talk about how great the iPhone is? Go get what you want. It also gets harder to ignore the amount of posts users have when they make these comments that wreak of troll. But that is an ugly word and I hate going there.

It's a damn shame that I don't come on Android forums to please you. Discussing the differences between the iPhone and the EVO aren't against the rules, so I'm going to continue to do so. I can only hope that you'll wake up one morning and won't be aggravated by the discussions of others.

Dude, the EVO has lag everywhere. Scrolling, animations, transitions, zooming, panning, the list goes on and on. Aside from the 30fps cap, its not totally the EVO's fault. Android just needs to get more polished.

I could be, but I'd be a hero if I came here from the iPhone and said I was never going back. I'm far from an Apple/Android fanboy, because I've used both phones religiously in the last year. If I'm taking an unbiased approach to my responses in these threads, I don't see why it's such an issue.
