Root Can someone root through PC Anywhere?

PC Anywhere gives total access to a remote user. Could it, or another program like that work?

For instance, I plug in my phone, and you phone me up and talk me through, "plug it in, unplug, shut it down," while you program it through some remote link software.

Just looking at options.

Short Answer: no

Informed Answer: root can only come from another process that is already running as root, and can delegate root permissions or be exploited to do your evil bidding.

A remote access program (server) should be running at the user level. To do root things with it you would have to use the same "get root" tools you would if you were physically using it. You could set it to run as root and then have that level of access intrinsically, but you would need root to do that in the first place, and plus it would be just plan daft.

Getting root really can be a chicken and the egg type enigma.

Long Answer: Read up on the Linux and Android security model and boot process, and code exploitation. There is infinitely more out there on this topic than I pretend to know.

The method we are using to root the 1.6 update isn't exploiting a hole in the code, but a hole in the model itself. Samsung was nice enough to create a PC flashing program for their phones, something other devices don't have. We have that, and we also have a flash image of a compatible recovery partition with root access.

Computer Security 101 - you can eventually have complete access to a device once its actually in your hands
