With multiple threads, the order of execution cannot be guaranteed, though you can use synchronization techniques to get them to work together.

It could be that in one program, the execution of each thread completes in such a way that they usually and reasonably consistently end up finishing in the order that they were started, but it shouldn't be assumed that this will always be the case. Some JVM implementations may execute threads in a strictly "round robin" fashion, executing each thread linearly until it completes or otherwise blocks, while others may using "time-slicing," splitting execution time among each thread.

Have you ever been walking down the street and realized that you're going in the complete opposite direction of where you are supposed to be going? But instead of just turning a 180 and walking back in the direction from which you came, you have to first do something like check your watch or phone or make a grand arm gesture and mutter to yourself to ensure that no one in the surrounding area thinks you're crazy by randomly switching directions on the sidewalk?

I've done that before.
