iPhone 4: AT&T isn't the only thing stopping people from making calls

So iphone 4 is having typical reception issues. Apple tells them to hold the phone a different way. Now im not really an android fanboy but have been an apple hater since they screwed up my music collection when i got my original ipod with their horrible software.... but this is just icing on the cake... Apple responds to iPhone 4 reception issues: you're holding the phone the wrong way -- Engadget

the fact that you are happy about a problem on a phone you don't own makes you a fanboy IMO. ;)

Got my iPhone 4 yesterday. As with all new launches, and especially on the order of a million or so sold including pre orders, you'll hear of problems. My N1 sure had them. But my iPhone has zero problems and frankly puts the hardware of the N1 to shame. Software is still better with android, but the iPhone 4 Hardware is miles ahead of the N1.

You missed my point. There are certainly some phones with that issue. Don't you remember the SAME issue with the N1? Google it. There are videos of it all over the web. My point is that that is a small minority. Mine does NOT have tis issue no matter where I hold it. As I said, software is better with android, hardware is better with iPhone. My opinion after owning both.

I don't know if i am happy about it. I just find apple to be so arrogant and see humor in the fact they are telling their customers to hold the phone a different way. As stated above i said was not a android fanboy but obviously you can tell i am an apple hater. Which would be different than fanboy sir.

While I am definitely amused by any story about reception and call quality when it comes to the Iphone and AT&T relationship, there are reports at least that some Incredible users need to hold their phone a certain way to improve reception.

While I have not experienced this and it is not affecting everyone, you can say we have a similar issue.

Yes the old 3G issue, the one that hardly anyone got whereas the iPhone issue is all over youtube and even international news sites due to so many people getting it.. Also this is going from full strength to dropping calls, which the N1 never did. And thirdly google release things before they're ready and refine them in the field, whereas Apple aren't supposed to do that, so much for polish eh. Fourthly, I did mention the 3G issue in the post I started the thread with.

I actually know people who build towers, and after 9/11 all the cellphone companies heavily invested in the expansion of their networks so there would never be a problem like the one they had on 9/11. ATT can most likely handle it. As long as they hold their phones upside down and hop on one foot lol

Nothing like this badly, and in a supposedly polished product from a company reputed to be pretty hot on this kind of thing..

You'll be claiming it's a deliberate feature to help the users next I suppose, like the amazing advance they made by replacing 3G video calling with video calling that only works on wifi and between iphones..

I have signal issues with my incredible. When I'm in the parking lot at the train station I get no signal if the phone is in my pocket/lap, if I put it on my dash I get a signal only if the screen is face down. If its face up no signal. I also get no signal in areas where I used to get signal on my Touch Pro, and noticeable weaker signal in most areas. I just ordered one of those "Antenna Booster" things hoping that will help, :|

This seems like a really good idea though; have the outside of the case act as the antenna. Pretty smart, and doesn't seem like anything that 4 little rubber separators won't solve..

In Apples defense. I can't believe those words are coming out of my mouth... but anyway in their defense they did have a pretty good idea. It's still pretty much ATT and their network that causes the problems. That exclusivity contract must be pretty iron clad, I can't imagine Steve Jobs actually being happy with this. However this is what you get when you want to control everything.

Yes , but how much of a prob?
Easy test...menu>settings>phone info>network
the Signal strength/dBm reading is realtime
changing holding with palm to fingertips is a 7dbm change for me

Is that normal/avg loss?

on Dinc your just covering up antenna, on iphone you seem to be grounding it out
some applelics claim No signal at all when holding phone in hand vs finger tips
I've read apples is aware and suggests fingertips or BUY a rubber case
( which does indeed suggest an grounding issue)

People who are laughing at apple really are pretty childish. I am a proud droid owner and have never owned an iphone.. but I have immense respect for apple and it's products..Iphone 4 IS superior to the droid in many aspects than not... apple has always delivered top notch products.. be it hardware or software. Yes, it's surprising that this antenna issue is apparently concerning.. but I am sure apple will come up with a solution that'll make the phone even better than what it currently is..

Apple is a proven leader in smart phone innnovation.. .. apple leads and everybody pretty much plays catch up.

that said, I still love my droid over the iphone.

I don't think anyone is really laughing at Apple...just their lemming users. For anyone in my area, they are like Ohio State football fans or Kentucky basektball fans.
