can the evo work on edge?

Ok I seen on a thread that u can change your data network buy dailing #*#*4636*#*#.This evo 4g is always on 3g network but never goes to edge.Can I put the phone on gsm only and not have to worry about 3g coming on. Im asking because 3g runs down your battery faster than edge. I put it on gsm only but the 3g symbol still showing that its receiveing 3g data. I know on the hd2 you can turn it of thus saving a lot of battery life.

You can make that setting, like you can choose GSM only, but the EVO is a CDMA phone, and Edge is a GSM technology. The Evo does not have the right kind of radio to work with any GSM technology, so you cannot take advantage of Edge.

Ok I thought so but I wasn't sure. So if I turn off 3g data under wireless settings I can't get on the internet st all?

Correct. Unless you have wifi enabled and have a signal.
