No sound in the ear piece

So the other night I was out and my battery was running low. I was around 12%. I previously made a call around 10:10. The phone worked normally, it rang and such but no one picked up. Around 15mins later I used the phone again to call my dad. There was no sound from the ear piece. But I looked at the screen and it shows my dad picked up. I tried to tell him, I'll call him back. But apparently he couldn't hear me so he kept calling me. I answered the call but no sound was coming out of the ear piece and the mic wasn't sending my voice to him. I tried to call my friend who was with me and the same happened. I turned off the phone and turned it on again and it works properly. Has this happen to anyone? This was the first time occurring. I'm on the 2.1 leak.

Never had this in 1.5 but getting it about once a day on 2.1. I disabled the lower volume in pickup setting and that seems to help and I haven't had that issue since. But it's a big problem for this leaked update.

i would check that settings and i would take a look at the apps i was running too

for instance, my ringtone would reset to default and it seemed rather random. then i looked at my apps, i had EAR Profiles installed. i uninstalled EAR and haven't had the issues since.

so it could be an app thing...

It's definitely not an app issue, the phone's speaker and earpiece basically stop working after making a couple calls. Music won't play, YouTube audio won't play, instead of a ringtone playing when getting a call it just vibrates...that's thats pretty much how i know when to reboot my phone. That and the fact that rebooting requires you to relog into Google everytime AND this happens at least twice a day makes these moments just ever so joyful :0)

i would think it has to be some "thing" and if it is definetly not an app, it has to be a setting in the phone. have you checked the silent when moved setting?

settings>sounds and display> quiet ring on pickup> off/uncheck

i realize you would think it would have nothing to do with the mic, but you never know. i have had mine unchecked since install and i have never had this issue.

Just now my phone happened again. Well not the phone call part, but the speakers not having sound. I can see the music player going. 20 seconds into the song there was still no sound. Reboot. And bam music works again. Weird how this didn't happen until Sunday when I installed 3 music players to test them out. Guess I'll uninstall them and see if they are the culprit.

Yep, one of the first things I unchecked when the leak came out

again, mine does all the same stuff. crazy mic and earpiece problems. but my phone was doing something similar before 2.1. just got MUCH worse after 2.1. so i took it in and they are shipping me a new one. mine had a number of other call issues as well. i think i just got a bit of a lemon in that regard. bad outgoing sound quality, cutting in and out even with a full signal, etc. but we shall see. seems like a handful of these phones have this issue and those who have had these problems haven't pinpointed the cause. might be some simple setting. but maybe not. i think it may actually be something too deep in the software (some sort of bug) that couldn't be fixed by changing settings or apps. certainly a hard reset didn't fix things for me so i don't know of anything else that would work aside from replacing it. when mine shows up with 1.5 i am definitely not going up to 2.1 again. too many issues. 2.1 is awesome and totally fixes lag issues and has great features. and i can't wait for the official release. hopefully these bugs will be fixed. but i'm not messing with this pre-release again.

I think that the fact that your battery was at 12% probably had a lot to do with it. I read somewhere that once it gets that low, the system will incremently turn off non-necessary functions in an effort to keep from shutting down completely because of a dead battery.

It's not the fact that his battery was at 12% I've seen a few people around different forums that have the same issue, and although some had it with 1.5 it seems to be a bug with the leaked 2.1. Now Im not saying everyone has this bug because that's evidently not the case...its just baffling how some people have it and some don't. I unfortunately am on the losing end of this as well as a few others but it seems we'll just have to stick it out til the official 2.1 is released and this "bug" is patched up. I've heard some people having success with factory resets and re flashing the leaked 2.1 but I'm a bit too lazy to even try this as I would have to put my contacts back in (which some were missing for some reason even though I had them before I got the phone so google shouldve backed them up) and reinstalling apps, restoring settings, etc.

I'm having the same problems on my Eris which has the official 2.1 update. I've lost all sound in the middle of calls as well. The network connection is fine, it still shows me as being on a call, but there is zero sound coming out of the earpiece. I started noticing it with the 2.1 upgrade although that doesn't mean it didn't happen when I had 1.6. I'm going to uninstall the apps I've installed one at a time, going backwards chronologically to see if it's a non-HTC or non-Android problem.

Wow. This is one of the oldest "silent call bug" threads. Don't bother with your apps; they're not really the problem. You have the silent call bug. You can do a hard/factory reset and you'll still have this problem at random. The only known permanent solution is to get a refurb from Verizon and hope that it doesn't have the exact same bug. There's no software solution as of yet.

Here's the most current thread about this topic if you'd like to read more about it:

Yeah I have this issue too and it is driving me insane. My phone was perfect until I did the 2.1 upgrade. I have done the factory reset and removed all apps. It still randomly when I go to make a call will lose audio both transmit and receive.

The only solution is to reboot the phone and then it is ok for a little while. If anyone knows a solution please post it.

The only solution for me was to bring it to Verizon and request a replacement. It's been several weeks, and no "Silent Bug" yet. It did; however, come with the 1.49 bootloader.
