Root If you are having trouble rooting

I've tried PDAnet, Unrevoked2, the modified inf trick, everything. 2 different cards including a PNY 2Gb and 2 separate computers. Clicked the card in at every nanosecond possible from recovery to the black screen and no dice. I sincerely believe at this time that my phone is unrootable. I've tried literally HUNDREDS of times and I'm beginning to fear damaging my battery contacts/sd slot. Guess it wasn't meant to be for me.

Keep going the black screen means nothing. I used the ten minute video and it doesn't get in until almost 5 seconds after the black screen. Matter if fact it doesn't get in until after the second driver install sound which doesn't happen until way after the black screen.

Hope this helps

Yes. Also, I had most recently loaded the flash tool onto my pc and used the unrevoked html link that comes with the package to update the boot driver. I was using the PNY 2Gb card at the time. I really think the usb cable pull was the ticket rather than just luck. I failed too many times with the card pull/push for it to have just magically work. Not saying its impossible that I hit the timing on my 200th+ try but for it to work the first time with a major difference added to it...the cable seems to have been the springboard for me.
Here's hoping you get it.

Can you reproduce it? Once I got in with the new sd card though I was able to get in almost every single time. Can you? :D forget that just get the unlock tool installed and your good.

On a side note isn't it a shock when you finally see the message? I didn't want to move for fear it would pull the cable and lose it.

i thought i blew a load in my pants when i got it to work.. then i skrewed up on the timing on the update.. so i had to redo it all... now i can't get it to work again!!!!!

FML

If your talking about the step were you push the power button and the enter key then you didn't have to redo it all just re push the files and try the timing step again. You don't need to get out and back in to do that.

Thanks man. And how long did you leave the cable out for, and when did you put the SD card back in?

I hit recovery then only had the cable out for a split second, then put it right back in as quick as possible. I already had the sd card out (although still in the slot). So as soon as I got the cable back in, I quickly pushed the card back in right after that.

Cliff notes version...as quick as you can get both steps done back to back. :D

Hey i really appreciate the help you've given me. Just wanted to say thanks!

That's exactly what I was thinking too. Then I couldn't get the loop stopped so I couldn't proceed. Only because I had the cmd window running behind the 10 minute video window so Control +C wasn't being applied to it. :D

Yeah, I was shocked. Had a good laugh after that one.

Need some help. Do I follow the instructions in the "droid incredible root in 10 min" with the exception of installing pdanet for the drivers? If this is the case, I did download the zip that came with the video and followed the instructions (putting the sdk folder in my C: drive, then go on from here). I may be making this too difficult, or I could simply be unlucky. If any one can help out or be more to-the-point with the instructions that'd be most excellent.

Appreciate it.

you may have to use a combination of methods but all you need is here on this forum. use the 10 min vid up to the adb shell part then with pdanet drivers already installed proceed with the clicking in and out method of the sd card to get into recovery. once you do that your home free.

@Craig,
Also, before you start put your phone in airplane mode. I have no idea what for SURE made the difference for me to finally get root but airplane mode was one of the last things I tried and I got it on about the 10th try using additional tricks mentioned above.

By the time I finally got it, I would have stood on one leg, closed my left eye while singing Hail To The Chief if somebody said it worked for them.

Keep at it.

This was the first time I put it into airplane mode and tried it and it worked. I had tried every other method I could find and had no luck. I literally said out loud to myself when I read the OP post... "Ok this is the last method I'm going to try then I'll give up." First try and BAM it went right in.

For the past week I kept telling myself to be cool and don't get over excited if I get in because I've been trying to get root while at work. As soon as I saw the loop.bat msg change I jumped out of my chair and yelled "YESSSS!" got a lot of funny looks from my co-workers.:D

Wow congrats to all those who have managed to get theirs rooted. I started last night, worked on it for about 4 hours simply trying to follow the video. Been working for about 5 hours today, trying numerous methods I've found around the web and still got nothing.

I know some people have said to click the SD card in 1 second after I hear the windows "disconnect sound" but if I wait 1 second its already at the black screen, which other's have said that means you've waited too long. Quite perplexed.

Oh well, guess I'll keep plugging away and hope eventually i"ll get it.
Thanks to everyone who's been posting methods that have worked for them.

Kylash, might want to check this out.

I started to suspect this also. My windows "connect" sound was happening way after the black screen. Somebody started that statement and it just kinda snowballed as fact. May or may not be for everyone. I'm wondering if that's why my cable disconnect caused it to work. It forced the disconnect/connect sound earlier than usual. Really SEEMS to be related to the moment in or directly around when it's recognized by the PC.

Thank you! I finally got my Incredible rooted using PDAnet's drivers.

Here is what I did in hopes of helping others:

I already had HTC Sync and PDAnet installed on this machine ( Windows 7 x86). I uninstalled both (including the HTC drivers in the "Remove programs") and rebooted. I then reinstalled PDAnet and followed the on screen instructions to finalize it rebooted once more. Finally I followed the above instructions, however I made sure to turn on Airplane mode (no clue if it helped) and instead of using the "Power+Vol. Down" I used the "trackpad + Power" to turn on the device (while the SD card was removed). I selected the first option and then recovery. AS SOON AS I HEARD THE DEVICE DISCONNECT I PUSHED IN THE SD CARD (This is key, 1 second was too slow). After that I gained access to the phone.

Thanks again, and good luck to everyone having trouble with it. Patience and persistence will get you to where you want to go.

in the middle of my loop this comes up

* daemon not running. starting it now *
and then it hangs up until I hit control c

Also in my loop this comes

* daemon still not runningerror: cannot connect to daemon

Close the command prompt window, open task manager and in processes, stop all instances of adb.exe. There may be multiple instances running. Then reopen cmd and start from scratch.
