Help HDMI micro cable. No picture. Just horrible video quality. No Youtube

I just bought this micro HDMI cable from EBAY 6.5 feet. I just got it today. When I connect it to the EVO and HDTV (Samsung LN46A630), I get a notification that HDMI is connected.

When I try to see pictures.....NOTHING. (Message in my screen, MODE NOT SUPPORTED)

When I try to play youtube....NOTHING (same message)

The only way I get it to work is if I record something and play it on the TV, but the quality is so horrendous, that it definitely not 720P. It looks like an old VCR recording with dirty tape.

No even close.

If the cable works for video, why can't it work for pictures? youtube?

Does buying a more expensive cable be the difference here? Or will I get the same result?

This is what I bought from ebay...

Well, this one works with only MPEG4 encoding type. It won't play with H.263

But like I said, the picture quality is not what I was expecting.
Your holding it wrong, sorry could not resist.

Your sammie could be looking for a h.263 hdcp encoded signal. The Htc evo can not supply the signal so your sammie just ignores what is being sent.

Sammie?

What I don't understand is how people are able to view pictures, play video AND youtube, and I have the EXACT same device, but I cannot do it.

If it's the TV, I was not aware that only a certain HDTV's are able to work with EVO.

If it's the hdmi cable, I understand that, and I buy another one.

Sammie = Samsung.

That's about all the help I can give, sorry ;)

I was able to figure out what was wrong.

After reading some threads here and googling some info, it appears EVO doesnt have good codecs to display a better quality pictures.

In the day, video is clearer, and way better than night video.

And for the pictures, the only way you can see it in your HDTV is by playing in SLIDESHOW, So, in your gallery, you need to hit MENU and then Slideshow, and that is the only way to view them.

They look really good.

I just need a way to play YOUTUBE HD clips and I'm all set, but my Samsung says "MODE NOT SUPPORTED"

A lot of Samsung models do not have the updated HDMI 1.4 support.

For what it's worth, I have version 1.3 on my Samsung and I can only slideshow pics from Gallery or play 720p MPEG4 videos that I take with my phone. I've since tried other TVs and some do play with all the HDMI features available to the Evo. Check the TV compatibility thread in the Accessories section here.

Good info. Thanks for that.

I ain't buying another HDTV just to play youtube HD video that support HDMI 1.4 technology.

I can live without that for the moment.

I purchased mine in Feb '09 (Friday before Superbowl) and it looks as new today.
