Multitouch what's the big deal?

I don't get it.
Is this some type of magical thing that's missing from the EVO?

We have a shift key, you hit it caps lock for 1 key press.
You hit it two times you get caps until you turn it off.

Multitouch, you hold shift key + hit next key 1 cap.
Same as above to hold caps.

Same amount of effort, so what am I missing?

After I calibrated the way I type with my EVO it's super fast and accurate.

Multitouch is imperative to accurate fast typing. As you type you can hit multiple keys at once, the touches will often overlap with typing with two thumbs.

If you don't have multitouch your second key won't register until you completely pick up your other finger. This will slow down typing and frustrate the hell out of people.

I was up to 55 words per minute on my iPhone in portrait mode. W/out multitouch typing on these type of phones would be terrible.

Ok am I the only person that can type fast with his evo and be accurate? Multitouch definitely won't hurt, but I think this is another one of those things that people are being anal about. If you are more precise with your typing you won't miss so many letters when typing on your evo. I bet after more people get the multitouch keyboard, people will complain that they spell more words wrong because they are able to hit two adjacent keys at once.

BTW this was typed on my evo...
HTC EVO FTW!!!!

Sorry, but I think it is almost universally accepted that a multitouch capable keyboard is more pleasant to use than one that isn't.

True. I am not debating that. Just saying that the current keyboard isn't flawed and if you are precise then it can and will work for you.

You probably have not used a iPhone before. Typing is much faster and accurate with multitouch. Also some games requiring multitouch capabilities will be difficult to play. Imagine pressing down a button to run and pressing another button to jump while running. Obviously this would not be possible without multitouch as the first button would have to be released before the second button register.
This is my biggest complaint about the evo. The iPhone has had this capability a long time ago. Thus far iPhone still have the edge over the Evo imo.

Not applicable, this only relates to the keyboard, which can be replaced eight ways till Tuesday on the Evo. Including with multitouch keyboards.

LOL
We are going back and forth. I know he is talking about the keyboard. From his title and his first post he seem to think that it only effects the keyboard/typing. I am just tying to point out to him that the multitouch effects much more than that.

No, the specific issue he is talking about is the lack of keyboard multitouch (presumably in response to recent posts about multitouch keyboards). The "issue" you report is unrelated.

Agreed. Swype is unbelievable. If you take three days with it and grow accustomed to some of the nuisances, it's hard to go back. It's not for everyone and I do have the multi touch keyboard also installed but it is awesome. The "wow"factor is also a plus
:)

Totally agree.. I often find myself swyping on my Ipad's keyboard and wondering for a millisecond what the heck is wrong with it. :D

Totally addictive.
