Hi Guys,

First post, but I have been lurking a while :p

I am a UK user on vodafone, but after having some issues with my handset, I got a replacement this morning. In a bid to save the issues from recurring (wifi wouldn't work, apparently something to do with a bug that SE are aware of) I have debranded my phone and am now running R1FA016 as opposed to R1FA014, which is obviously good. R2BA020 has just been released but I cannot upgrade through SEUS, apparently only some countries can upgrade, so that's fine. My question is this: When SE rolls this update to the UK, will I be able to use SEUS or will I need to do it manually (as I might as well do it now if that's the case). In addition to that, I saw someone post something...somewhere... that suggested if i debranded I would not be able to get the 2.1 upgrade when it arrived, true or false?

Cheers :)

My understanding of it is that each firmware is tied to carrier / region and when you install to your phone (ie debranding) you now have tied the phone to that region. So when that region gets a release it'll be available to your phone. You can of course continue to manually install the firmware of choice as they become available or you can restore your phone to current carrier / region firmware if they have received the update faster.

Currently I have the latest R2BA020 (a carrier from Germany i think) firmware on my phone and have noticed that the apps available to me have now changed. Certain paid for apps do not seem to be available now. Again its only my understanding of things and my reasoning from having a debranded cell.

Hope this has not clouded things further for you

My understanding is that if you debrand from X10i to another X10i fw or from X10a to another X10a fw you will be able to update.

However if you change from X10i to X10a fw, or vice versa then you will have difficulty updating.
