So I've been having horrible battery life. It's been five hours and im at 40% with not much use at all today. I used gps for like 10 minutes and other tha nthat it's been sitting in my pocket at school. So i look at battery usage, that 10 minutes of gps tracking is 34%, followed by 16% phone idle followed by 13% display and 8% gphone manager free.

TIPS PLEASE, how can 10-20 minute of gps use and mostly standby all day be down to 40% after 5 hours??

I don't have my Droid yet (hurry up FedEx!), but from what have read around the forums:

1. Have you tried Locale? You can use the profiles to manage your power gobbling apps/services/hardware.
2. Lower screen brightness.
3. Turn off wifi and bluetooth.
4. When you got the phone, did you charge it up, completely drain the phone, then charge fully again? Not sure if that affects the newer batteries, but there was another post like this around here somewhere.

All of the Android phones so far have had less than wanted battery life. I have come to beleave its just the "nature of the beast".

Way back a year or more ago when there was just the G1, you saw the same post.

The Hero has battery issues and now so does the Droid.

Looks like we all just need to by an extra chargere or 2 and learn to deal with it some. I have aUSB cable for both laptops, USB cable for work PC, 2 carchargers and the outlet charger. My phone is never far away from a few minutes of charging. I am even looking into "soft" solar panel charges for those long days on my bicycle.

What I did was remove apps one by one. I am not sure, but I think that my problem was either Weatherbug pushing data, or Sportstap. I removed both and it isn't bad now. I can go a whole day and charge it at night. I do have facebook set up to update every 30 minutes and that doesn't seem to be hurting my battery too much.

all this stuff is off! ahh

Im in the same boat. I did everything the manual said. Got the phone, didnt use it, brought it home and fully charged it before taking it off the charger. Took it off the charger and checked my email....and it went down 10%. I pulled the phone off the charger at ten...its now noon and im already at 80 percent and ive checked my email twice. Ive removed all aspps off my phone except for taskiller which i use to end running programs, i have wifi off, gsp off, blutooth off. I need this phone to make it through my day with checking my email more than once a day. I dont get it. I know smartphones use up more battery but my brother, and my friends have blackberrys and get a day and a half to two days out of them with no issues. Im lucky to get 8 hours out of this piece of **** with VERY minimal use. I have NO games on my phone, nothing. I even removed all widgits...the only thing i have is push enabled because i use this phone for my email. Im going to give this thing back and go back to my moto Q. That thing was a piece of crap but at least it made it well through the day. Any help is appreciated, but idk what more i can do to monitor the battery life. Also my screen brightness is all the way down.

I would take it back and get a new one. It sounds like something is wrong with your battery.

i just got a new battery last night. :( maybe the phone itself is messed up? I dont understand how there is such a difference in what people are getting out of the phone? How is it possible that i can only get 8 hours with moderate to minimal use? Could there be something wrong with my phone? Im lost. It's just very dissapointing.

I would swap out my phone then.

yea I am going to give this battery a chance, try and cycle it, let it run dead, as some people have said they have had some good results with that. And then ill make the decision this weekend whether or not to get a new phone all together. If theres anything else i can do to monitor the batt life let me know. Thanks for the quick reply.

I've held off from posting in these threads, because until yesterday I haven't had a day where I was at work and didn't spend most of the day playing with the phone.

So here is my first "regular" usage day:

- Took it off the charger at 1pm
- 2 phone calls and about 5 texts before I left for work at 2pm
- ~15 minutes of play time at work before I started
- 3:15p meeting...about 20 minutes of play time
- 4:30p break...15 minutes of playtime, texts and web surfing
- 6:30p lunch...40 minutes of web surfing and downloading marketplace apps
- 9:30p break...20 minutes, a couple texts and web surfing
- 12:15am...left work. short phone call...got home 20 minutes later and played with random stuff, mostly checking things concerning what I was reading for problems people had on these forums
- 1:30am ... put back on charger. 12.5 hours off the charger, 70% battery still remaining

This all includes random, but quite short, periods with wireless and GPS on, even about 10 minutes I had to bump the brightness of the display all the way up because I was in the sun.

I'm pretty happy with that.

using email 25+ times a day, running a few apps and calling and texting at pretty normal intervals (1-2 calls and 1-3 texts per 2 hours) and messingf with my visual voicemail for about an hour and i left my phone off the charger last night to run it down am i am still at over 40%.

Very happy with my battery. Oh and i leave BT on all the time because i have not found a way for it to only open when i get in the car...my co-worker with a hero is pretty pissed since he needs to charge at lest once in the afternoon.

i would kill for my phone to last me through my day. its about to die, and its only been on for 9 hours...i'm at 15 percent. I have been doing everything i can think of, i have to running services, i even tried to uninstall all apps i thought could be the culprit. Did you guys that are getting really good battery life do anything different when you first got you phone? fully charge it and let it run dead and then repeat a few times to get the good battery life you have now? I'm just trying to understand why, i pull mine off the charger in the morning....look at my emails...and then its a t 90. Seriously if i look at this thing funny it loses ten percent. i don't get it for the life of me.

usually i have full signal. In the mornings in my bedroom i do not get good signal, but it usually has one bar. Once i leave there i have pretty much fell signal all day. Idk, I am still going to condition the battery and let it drain, then recharge. people said that greastly improved their experience with the G1and i figure it cant hurt to try. We shall see. Any other suggestions are open. Also, i use Advanced Task Manager to kill all apps, and i kill it when im done using it. you dont think that could be killing my batt do you?

I discovered the key to increasing battery life on my Droid.
I disabled auto-brightness for the display (Settings\Display\Brightness) and set it at ~30%, which I find to be plenty bright enough.
Seriously, my Droid would only last ~4-6 hrs on a full charge. I turned off the blasted auto-brightness and the battery is still ~60% after 24 hours!

YMMV of course, especially if you're in a low-signal area, but this single settings tweak has totally turned my Droid's life around. :D
