Interesting Best Buy Preorder Story

I just left my local Best Buy. I went in to ask if they would honor my new every 2 discount, a longshot I know. They told me "Yes, we will call Verizon and apply the discount total that they give us towards your phone.". I asked all of the sales guys like 3 or 4 times to verify lol. They also said that they will have the phone to sell on July 11th, "for sure". They will be calling people to make appointments to pick it up IF there are a lot of preorders. I was number 3 to preorder one.

I know someone mentioned the July 11th BB date on these forums before, but I was surprised to see that this Best Buy will honor my new every two discount.

Hmmm. Nice for those that want a 2 year contract for sure. I'm still not going to be able to do it though since I only want 1 year. If I get it on July 11th I'll be happy as a pig in the mud.

best buy soemtimes gets phones before verizon does just look at the devour they were selling a few days before verizon began selling them.

What is "every 2" discount? Normal 2 year renewal?

New every 2 is where you get an additional discount from something like 30 to 50 to 100 dollars on top of up the two year discount on select plan.

...which I discovered today can only be redeemed if you sign on for an additional 2 year contract. They need to adjust that now that phones are advancing so fast. Nobody wants old tech after just 6 months .

If verizon does not have pre order and I order online on the 15th when would I get the phone? Are we talking days? or weeks?

That's true, the guys at Best Buy believed that's why the preorders are low. Most of the Android heads just bought the Incredible lol. I would rather renew for a 1 year contract, but my NE2 discount is $100. When a 2Ghz processor + LTE phone comes out, I may have to sell my Droid X on ebay/craigslist and buy the new phone at cost...

If you order on the 15th and select "next day shipping", you will get it on Friday the 16th.

Only a few Best Buy's will honor the NE2 discount.

I just called, and my BB wouldn't honor the Every 2 discount They gave me that whole run around with the "instant rebate" crap. lol which sucks...

Yeah nobody will know until those dates arrive or someone receives a phone call. I think sometimes they tell u something because they know you will go and tell someone else and get excited and then be bummed when you have to wait.

Yep, the 11th is what they said. Adamantly I might add. I took that date with a grain of salt. As it stands right now, I still feel like they will sell them on the 15th, maybe the 14th, but they still said the 11th.

Tell you what, if they aren't there by the 12th I am going to go up there and raise some hell, just for the hell of it.

My Best Buy does 1 year. I grilled them with questions before I handed over my pre-order money. Some BB stores however I'm reading do not.

Yeah I have heard from several people that some Best Buys will do one year while others wont. So I guess it is just the luck of the draw.

They all run a credit check when you renew a contract.

Idk if they will necessarily turn you down, but Best Buy will perform a credit check, and I'm sure they will make you pay some outrageous deposit if your credit score is low. If that's the case then fork over the money for the deposit, pay your VZW bills on time and then you will get that money back while building credit at the same time.

Last time I tried to get a phone in my name VZW wanted $400 plus the 2yr amount. Had my eris since January on a family plan. Too bad my on time payments dont make a difference. : (

Why not run your credit now and try to take care of whatever is keeping your fico score down? Paying your cell phone bill on time will not improve your credit, as it is not a bill that is not tracked by transunion/equifax/experian. However, it will be reported if it falls into collections aka you stop paying your bill. The best bills to build or fix your credit are credit cards (pay the entire balance each month to avoid interest), and car/home/boat/motorcycle bills.

You would be surprised what paying off some old debt will do to your fico score pretty quickly. It will only be helping you in the long run anyways to pay them off (unless they are about to fall off your report.) So take care of that, use a credit card to buy things that you would normally, and pay it off in full in each month. You might do enough to put you over the hump before July 15th, although it's a big maybe haha. Either way, next time you need a phone you won't have to worry about a stupid deposit.
