G'day, what do you get if you update from FRF50 to FRF83?

And I bought my phone, and I am, in China will these updates to 2.2 work for me? I did the first manual update to 2.2 here and that has worked fine. FYI - the phone is stock except for buying it in a region that it is not "really" available in.

Yes, the updates will work regardless of which region you're in. All the files are in the first post, including FRF50 to FRF83.

Download that file, rename to update.zip, and follow the rest of the instructions.

Will doing these updates wipe my data on the phone? Like will I have to re-download apps and stuff? Thanks!

No, it will not wipe any data.

I tried going to FRF83 and after the update it said "installed successfully" so I scrolled up to reboot. (The upgrade to FRF50 just rebooted itself after if I remember correctly)

OK nevermind. I was worried because my phone was stuck playing the cool Nexus One animation during boot for like 3 or 4 minutes (wayy longer than usual). But all is well now.

Do the radio update to ensure 3G connection (recommended link)

I'll post as soon as I find it... but do the one above 1st.
There may be one that can take you straight to FRF83 but that's not what I did so I'm nit gonna suggest it. I Wouldnt want to brick your phone... =)

Update should not wipe out any data on your phone and you will not have to reinstall anything.

It's written pretty clearly in the first post. If you are on 2.1, use the update from ERE27 to FRF50, then from FRF50 to FRF83.

You can check your build number in settings, about phone, and scroll to the bottom.

These updates do not wipe any data on the internal storage, and no update ever touches your SD card.

It didn't update but the phone was still working on 2.1, then I extracted the file and now it seems to be bricked. Even when plugged in the charging light doesn't come on. I know little to nothing about electronics and probably shouldn't have done this on my own, but the steps seemed so simple. Please please help!

No need to back up the data. Just update according to the steps outlined by everyone on this post. Froyo is a nice upgrade but not "incredible." Mainly speeds up the entire Android experience, changes a little bit of the look of the screens. Main change is the ability to tether and to create a hotspot to share your wireless signal. If you were running 2.1, I think you had a pretty "incredible" version of Android to begin with.

Looks like Google is not yet finished with Android 2.2. Another build is available for download. First there was FRF50, then FRF72, then FRF83 and now FRF85B. Here's how to manually install the latest build on your Nexus One.

1. Download the file. Get it here:
http://android.clients.google.com/packages/passion/signed-passion-FRF85B-from-FRF83.f62ffd2b.zip

2. Rename the file "update" and save it on your SD card on the Nexus One. (Save the file to your desktop, right-click and rename it "update" and then copy and paste to the SD card on your Nexus One).

3. Turn off the phone and turn it back on by holding down the trackball and power button.
4. Select "Boatloader" and then "Recovery."
5. When you see the android guy with the log, press the volume up button and the power buttons.
6. Choose "update.zip" and wait until it installs the update. Reboot the phone and that's it.


This new build is proof that Google is not quite finished with Android 2.2. But the time between new builds is a sign that Google is getting very close and probably in the final stages of tweaking the final release build.

So I rooted my phone and flashed over the recovery with clockwork mod. When 2.2 came out in the form of FRF50, I installed that with no issues. Then, I heard that 2.2 for ATT had come out today, so I reverted back to 2.1 and about 5 minutes later, BOOM, I had gotten a message saying 2.2 update was ready for my phone. I said install now...and nothing happened. Boo. I downloaded the file for manual update, booted into clockworkmod recovery, and tried to install that .zip file directly, and now it says something about a version check failed, then lists a bunch of letters/numbers and something about com.amazon.mp3.apk. I had previously removed the mp3 store via terminal, could this seriously prevent me from updating to 2.2? Does anyone know how to get it back on my phone so I can have Froyo?

that's because the updates are always made available to the phones on a progressive way, based on the IMEI I believe. You don't have to worry, yours is as able to receive OTA updates as any other Nexus One. I haven't received mine yet, but I will
