After I got done with my workout, I noticed my phone was restarting. I thought....no big deal. Well...it didn't stop restarting. It kept going from the "HTC - Quietly Brilliant" screen to the "Verizon Wireless Screen" over and over and over...so I went into Verizon, the chick tried something and didn't work (didn't know what she did). So then she goes "I have one more idea.." and she took the phone to the back for a few minutes, came back out, and it was working fine! I am thinking that she maybe updated my phone to the v3 leak/RUU (I was still running v2 of the leak). I was kinda bummed though...I was hoping for a new Eris so I could root it ha!

So my question is...how do I check to see if I am running v3/RUU?

Maybe this can help you out:

You can now root leaked phones.

Partially true. But its pretty complex and not anywhere near as automatic as standard root. Not to mention it has a fairly low success rate due to it relying heavily on perfect timing. But it is a step in the right direction, and hopefully someone will get it working more consistently with either better instructions, or a more reliable method.

Thank you. Apparently I still have leak v2 on my phone then...which is kinda disappointing now that I have gotten my phone back (kinda) to how it was before she fixed it. Still don't know how she fixed it if it wouldn't even turn on...

Where can I download the newest software for the phone (its leak v3 or ruu right?)?

It's possible to do a factory reset from the HTC recovery menu, so I imagine that's what the CSR did.

Here's the thread with the RUU, and I'd suggest using that to get from v2 to v3, because it's just a normal Windows program that you run on your desktop. (No need to mess with your SD card.) It will wipe your apps and settings, but when it's all done you'll have pictures in your Gmail, copy-protected apps in the Market, the ability to receive future OTA updates, and a host of other bug fixes.

...and she took the phone to the back for a few minutes

I am thinking that she maybe updated my phone to the v3 leak/RUU (I was still running v2 of the leak).
A "few minutes" like 3 minutes or so ? If so, she didn't install (update) much if anything.

As for a factory reset, that would wipe out everything and from the sounds of it (you don't mention anything along those lines), that didn't happen either.

I would have explicitly asked "what did you do ?" and tell them it will save me a trip if if happens again. It shouldn't be secret.

Yeah, she didn't install anything...but I think she might have just done a factory reset. I don't know. Everything was completely wiped, but I was still on leak v2.

Question quick...I tried doing the RUU download from XDA...but it is a .exe program, and I have a mac, so I can't run that. Any other way I can get it?

Oh, sorry. In that case your only option, that I know of, is to do "leak v3". It's a PB00IMG.ZIP, just like v2. Or you can try the new root method for leakers, but it's quite complicated.

She wiped your phone without asking you first ? I wouldn't care if this solves your problem... You lose all text messages, any apps you've installed, etc.

no she asked. I was fine with it. nothing else could have been done.

that's what I thought. where can I download it, and can I do it all over the phone, or do I have to connect to my computer first?
