All the articles im seeing now are all about the Droid X dethroning the iPhone 4 as the best smart phone? But am I the only one that its pretty much the same thing just bigger? They are raving about the Droid X's 4.3" screen, 8 megapixel camera, and 1 GHz processor. The EVO did this last month and it didnt receive as much attention. All I see is Droid X vs iPhone 4 reviews. Is it since Verizon is the more favorable service provider of the three?

Its the marketing........But that doesn't mean its better. They are trying to sell phones to people who have no idea what android is. So they make commercial after commerical making it seem like DROID is the only phone that does......And to people who don't know, they get all hyped up.

Sprints approach is different in that they only need to put the info out there, let people research and buy the phone and then use word of mouth to advertize. There's no better marketing tool than someone who owns the phone and can let someone else play with it, and let them see how good it is. It ensures people buy the phone with the intent to keep it, as opposed to those who get caught up in the commercial and then aren't happy and return it.

IMO I like sprints way alot better.

You may like Sprint's way better, but it doesn't mean it's the right way to go. I'd rather sell 20 phones and get 5 returned than sell 6 phones and get 1 returned. They flat out have no clue how to sell a phone on it's strengths and functionality, period. They sell their service very well, and it just doesn't carry over to phones. Maybe they expect the mfg to do it? I don't know. Though HTC seems to do a good job marketing their phones and did so with the HD2. With the X coming out, you'd think they'd give the Evo a push since Sprint is inept.

Bottom line is Sprint needs numbers and their lackluster marketing is certainly not going to help achieve that goal. They make a bid deal to those of us who already own one or want to buy one about their premium $10 fee. Don't you think a commercial should talk about all these premium things you can do on the Evo? It's not even about hype. You just have to sell your strengths. And banking on being first with a 4g phone is a weak strength at that in the grand scheme of how most will use their phone on a daily basis. It's great that you have, but what can you do with it? Even their 4g Data commercials do a better job of selling 4g then they do with the Evo commercial.

sprint barely marketed the Evo..although on the internet it was on almost every single webpage...the hype was not strong at all. in some places where people knew about it, it was the new It phone.. in others, people just didnt care or even know what the heck an evo was.. Simply put, when there is an iphone around, people notice, when theres an evo around, people dont notice and they just think its another one of "those" phones... some classmates in my class were discussing how the iphone has video calling and is the first phone to feature such a thing. after i came out and introduced them to the evo, they loved the idea that the Evo could not only do the video calling to other mobile phones and to computers, but that it would function over wifi, 3G, and 4G. its really too bad sprint dropped the ball with the evos full potential.. For those who own and love their evos.. its a PRecious piece of technology, for those who are running to apple because they want the iphone 4 for their video caling fantasys.. its a major loss since they are enrolling into a 2 yr contract with a shitty network and a $360 disconnection fee....ouch

I disagree, when I take my EVO out, people bug out! I've used Apple products for years. Only one or two times did I get the shocked look from pulling out an iPhone, and that was with the first one in 2007. Nothing since really, and I've had both the 3G, and 3Gs as well. Now when I whip out my EVO , people bug out and say WOW...What kind of phone is that, the screen is sick.

Sprints marketing still suxxxxxx though...lol

Yes their marketing sucks, but really who expected them to all of a sudden change overnight? I didn't plus I don't want a big marketing push. I don't want a overpacked network like AT&T, that makes my experiance worse because of all the people on the network. Who cares who has the hottest whatever, its all opinion, but I do know that whenever im out and someone wants to put their whatever against mine, my network signal is always superb, and alot of people get choppy signals out and about.

We know the Evo is similar, however the hype is up because of the history of the Droid name. The Motorola Droid was the flagship phone for Android when it released and is still a very good phone. The Droid X is Motorola's answer to the Evo and the HD2. We all know the Evo is comparable but now people on Verizon can join in on the big screen fun.

actually, who really cares? Enjoy your phone for what it is. Who cares what others do. Half the comparison threads are all crap. An extreme minority are really trying to decide which one to get (especially in all the iphone comparison threads). They just want to puff their feathers, feel justified they made a good purchase, and it's done by putting the competition down. Hype is marketing. Hype sells. Plain and simple. Why get your feathers in a tussle about it?

Yea I agree its all about marketing.

Look whats happening with the Inc: new packaging thats similar to the Droid's, similar Droid commercials. Looking at the Verizon website the Droid, Inc and X are listed on the same Droid promo page, making them all in the Droid family. That will only help Inc sales.

The X has no Front camera and no 4G chip...I think the EVO has an edge over the X in a few areas....

The thing about a big marketing push, u have to live up to the hype. By Sprint not hyping it or marketing it as much as Verizon is with the X, they dont have any pressure on them really.

Verizon hopes the X lives up to the hype...

With that being said....I'm going to try to hunt me an escaped X or take out a loan to get it at retail price, or upgrade my line to a family plan and get it that way...One way or another....Im getting me an X.....lol

Because Verizon is a popular carrier and the "Droid X" is a nice looking phone. As has been mentioned, Verizon does a lot more to push their brand and has tied their brand heavily to their Android lineup whereas Sprint seems intent on tying themselves to their Wimax service. As much as I love having access to Wimax networks on my phone, that's not what sells to a lot of people.
