I checked yesterday if there was any updates and there was so I've updated to 1.21.405.2 . When updating it said it made a backup of my settings, then after updating it asks me if I want to restore the saved backup.. Thinking that the update removes all the old stuff I said Yes. Bad decision because now it has duplicated all my old SMSes and it still didn't remember what background I had or what widgets i had on the desktops

So tip is to try first update and select no when it asks you if you want to restore the saved backup.. I'm sure you can restore it later if you are missing stuff.

Okay but are you supposed to use the backup when updating or shouldn't it be nessesary??

Think of the default backup as a last known good.

If the phone sees a difference it will ask you, and if you say no dump it and backup the phone as is now. You won't get another chance to get it back

Not to be rude but i hope you aren't considering a career as a teacher I asked a no/yes question and your just answering it with a statement..

ANYWAY i really must discourage from updating to this version!! Not only do i have double copies of all my old smses, if I try to scroll up in a sms-conversation, it keeps jumping down to the last sms, even though no new smses has arrived, even when i'm not touching the screen but i've stopped somewhere to read, it jumps down after a second or so!! I'm getting more and more frustrated with the htc interface.. there are too many bugs

Actually the only better thing i've noticed is a bit nicer graphics and the moving grass background turns to day now and isn't stuck on night mode..

I've had the exact same problem. All my sms have now been duplicated and I lost every widget I had on the home screens. Even worse is the fact that now I can't change my wallpaper to a custom picture. It tells me that I've selected a picture as my current background, but keeps it as the rainbow dots background. I can switch to other HTC backgrounds, but not a custom picture of my choice...

This is ridiculous. Did anyone actually test this before they pushed it out?

What do you think the odds are of a new update to fix the bugs this update has caused?

I'm very disappointed in this as my phone was set up perfectly before this and I only accepted the update as I assumed it wouldn't total my phone's setup.

Because the answer isnt a yes no. Either you want a correct answer to your question or you dont

You will lose your homescreen settings, certainly your background after upgrades.

This is because there have been changes to the files that make the homescreen, so it cant be restored from the inbuilt backup.

Next time use my backup pro, then say no to the restore and do the restore from MBP instead. Problem solved

I made an app that removes all the duplicates, tell me if your interested. I haven't put it on the market yet though. It has a tiny downside though. I wasn't able to distinguiss between duplicates and one sms sent to several people, so it removes all but one of the reciptiant in those cases. I though this was such a small issue it's not worth time fixing since it's complicated to fix..
