Howardforums says screen is pixelated when looking at text

I've been looking at the Howardforums thread on the Droid X and FAUguy who has had the phone for a while is complaining about the text in the browser looking pixelated. This is really disappointing to me as I loved the original Droid's screen and have been less than thrilled with my Incredible's screen (I don't like pentile setup). I saw the iphone 4 this weekend and regardless of the OS, the screen is killer due to the resolution. Does anyone else have any fear that due to the large size but no increase in resolution the screen won't be so great? I have 20/15 vision and I've owned a droid since a day before it officially came out, so I'm no Apple fanboy, I just wish they bumped up the res on the X.

Here's the original quote from FAUguy:
"When using the web browser, text that is normal-to-small is VERY jagged, unlike the Droid and Incredible. This is because the Droid X has the same resolution as the Droid, but since its a larger screen, the pixel count is the same. It's almost like if you took a VGA image and printed it on a 4" paper, and then on a 6" paper. The larger you make it, the less detailed it become. So what the screen really needs is more pixels (higher res)."

I understand what you're saying, and I agree that he's not complaining. Nor do I really think that this affects the phone's function, but for those of us who notice things like clarity or definition of a screen, it's a bit of a bummer, especially after seeing the iphone display.
See, I think the iPhone display is a gimmick. They can only show the difference using a magnifying glass.

Here's is the thing though.
If we want to keep android crowd as a mature group, we must recognize pros of others phones and recognize cons of our phones. Basically, you need to show respect where it is due. I took a look at my friend's iphone4 yesterday and to say the least the screen is very sharp and clear, although it was too small.

True, but I still think it is a gimmick. It's like having speakers that are capable of reproducing sound up to 25,000 Hz. That's well outside of the human audible range, so it is worthless. If you can see the difference in resolution from a normal viewing/using distance, fine. I have yet to see a review that makes that distinction.

I can see the pixels in my Incredible screen from about 14 inches away which is how far I usually hold it away while at my desk. The original droid screen looked better to me than the incredible. If you're just going by reviews or what you've seen on the internet, I would suggest seeing the iphone in person, but if your vision isn't all that great, then to you I doubt it would matter. Basically it's the same as what manufacturers are doing with digital slr screens which are even higher res than the iphones, and it definately matters there.

I don't know if it is a gimmick or not since I have not seen iphone4 side by side with X with my own eyes. But Droid X sure as hell could have used higher resolution, although OS has the limitation.

So the text on EVO's screen should be even worse?

LOL, FAIL!!!!!

That is not an issue with the EVO at all. Its a fact that the brower on the EVO is better than the X. Check any video comparision. The EVO's brower is faster for one, and also when double tapping the EVO arranges the text evenly in the window, with the X you still have to manually pinch to zoom the text so that it is readable.

BTW, don't listen to everything that you hear, because most of the time its not the case. Play around with an EVO first and then talk about what is doesn't or does do.

Haha that's great. I laugh at all the people that swear by a device that has a nice screen.... yet fails in other departments. I suggest you get an iphone, op. Looks like you made up your mind already. I'll be busy making calls and surfing any website. All the while youre staring at your screen trying to place a call. Enjoy the nice photo frame.

Actually what I'd like is a Droid X with a higher res screen and maybe a front facing camera. I laugh at people who are ignorant and can't have a mature conversation. Go away troll and let the adults talk.
The incredible's/HTC browser is good because it does a great job at rearranging the text so that you can see everything regardless of what size without panning left and right. Right now it doesn't look like the X browser does this (watch the vids) but I suppose that functionality could be added later.

Nope it doesn't, but you are right, it could probably be fixed with an update, or some sort of hack to change out the browser to an HTC one. Only thing though, the fact that the bootloader is signed by motorola is going to be a big issue with trying to root. According to motorola there is no way of circumventing that, but we shall see.

Wow... that was rude. :(

I was simply talking about pixelation of the text since the Droid X has a higher resolution screen... since this thread is about pixelation. I found Zedomax to declare it was essentially the same speed. Look at his comparison on Youtube.

I'm going to miss the rearranging text feature from my Incredible. I'm not such a fanboy that I would even deny that. If the iPhone users could live without it all this time, then I don't think I'll miss it TOO badly. I had 4 previous smartphones that all did not do it either.

Maybe you should try analyzing how my emotions might be through the text. I'm very solemn right now because I'm going to a funeral. Good god...

Lol wtf? Troll? There's smart zoom on the x also its not exactly revolutionary and thee browser is the same browser in every android phone so the difference is the speed of the phone and its been shown the omap 3630 is way faster then the snapdragon. And a quick search on google shows a browser speed comparison with the x loading faster so I'm going to have to say troll

could i ask what smart zoom is??? does that arrange the zoomed text so you don't have to scroll left and right?

Adults use the word troll? oh I apologize then. I had no idea i had to have the vocabulary of a preteen, in order to be taken seriously. Perhaps i should take you seriously now......

HAHAHA thanks for the laughs. Do yourself a favor and get a iphone. It will make you look cool and trendy at the coffee shop. Then when you cant make a call, you can always stare at the pretty screen. :)

It's when you zoom in, the text increases in size but also wraps around the page like a word processor it stays in a column so you don't have to scroll right or left to see everything that has been written. The HTC android browser does this very well.
