Verizon encouraging customers to buy Droid X instead of Incredible. Will be available sooner.

What does this mean for the Incredible's future?

They should make it so that whoever wants the Droid X and not available to get one due to the 2 year contract can be allowed a super early update.....this will make me happy because I really want a bigger phone

Yes, of course they are. They work on commission and so they are going to push something that they know will be in stock.

That being said, the Incredible is switching to LCD. I presume the price will decrease by a lot. Once that happens, a lot of people will be purchasing it that can't afford a $200 phone or however much the X is going to be.

This is an obvious article to me.

Sales 101 + I'm sure Verizon is a bit bitter with HTC.

If this item was in stock, I can't imagine how many would have sold. It really is a shame.

I am still waiting on my replacement due to call quality and speaker issues I sent the original back. But something is wrong here HTC is producing other devices and not having issues with delivery except the evo. I think the incredible has some other issue other than the screen production. It seems a lot of people are thinking like I am that we are not being told the truth. I know store reps are pointing people to different devices than the incredible so WTF is the issue come on VERIZON fess up!

Yes your right but HTC is making similar devices with similar materials why is the dinc taking sooooooooooooooooooooo long? Any day now the date will change to august for delivery date, come on something up!

Personally, I think the Inc holds a pretty decent advantage over the Droid X being that you can actually comfortably put it in your pocket. The Droid X is a huge device, not sure I'd want to be hauling that thing around. Might as well carry a netbook on my belt.

To my (admittedly limited) understanding, the Inc. is the only phone HTC makes with an amoled screen. The shortage is due to Samsung using the materials to make their Super Amoled screens for their Galaxy line of phones and only giving HTC their contracted amount per month. Demand for the phone exceeded production estimates made by HTC and basically caught them with their pants down. As soon (or sooner) as HTC gets the predetermined number of screens from Samsung (as stipulated in their contract) they will move to SLCD screens provided by Sony. The "blame" is on HTC for not a) knowing that the phone was going to be in such high demand and b) not securing the parts prior to starting the initial run on the INC.

This is by far the most successful phone HTC as put out, due to the fact of both the specs on the phone and the fact that it was being subsidized on the largest network in North America. The new INC. they plan on releasing is NOT the same phone because in my opinion the AMOLED screen is second only to the Apple Retina display and even that is slim (IHMO).

It seems to me that VZW feels somewhat slighted by HTC and the production of the INC. and feel they need to focus everyone's attention to the Droid X as they pull the old switcheroo on the INC's screen. The droid X is the new flagship phone for VZW and righttfully so, they will have plenty in stock, because Mother M has taken steps to ensure that the components of the phone are readily accessible.

So in hindsight it makes perfect sense for VZW CSR's and sales team to push the DX it has great specs, will be availible right out of the gate (little to no backordering) and due to the first Droid, Motorola is almost synonymous with Android (the Droid is what most people think of when they think of an Android phone). My biggest fears are soon to be realized in that I am going to be a part of a smaller group of Gen.1 Inc. owners.

I love my INC. and now it will be a collectors item...

If it were me, I would. If you call before it ships, they should be able to switch your order over now so you don't have to refuse the package, and then wait another week for the package to get returned to their inventory before you can get something else.

Because alot more people are BUYING the Incredible verses the Nexus One. And the Desire has the same supply issues, we just don't hear about it because it's not a European phone. I think this is a smart move by VZW. Let those that might want an X instead get one, freeing up a DrInc for someone esle, getting the back order fixed sooner. It costs them next to nothing, makes everybody happy, and once they can actually keep them in stock hopefully the crazy rumors that the DrInc is being cancelled will go away.

Title of the article has nothing to do with the information the article is citing - it's based on an article that states merely that folks waiting for Incredibles are allowed to switch and get the Droid X. They aren't requesting that customers switch.

If Verizon weren't allowing customers to switch, given that the X is going to be available before many customers can get an Incredible, and also given the fact that the Incredibles getting pumped out in July may be outfitted with inferior screens, that would be pretty crappy.

I don't see anything in the article that points to the phone getting phased out.

I believe the Nexus One and the Desire also use the same Samsung AMOLED screen. And it's on a couple of Pantech phones (not 100% sure, on that one but it's a good bet that any 3.7" 800x480 AMOLED is from Samsung), and the Galaxy A. It's probably never a great idea to source components from one of your competitors. Especially when they're gunning for you in the market. Samsung is pushing out the Galaxy S later this month, and would certainly be helped by HTC's supply issues.

You're right about the N1 and the Desire, I had a brain fart on that.. didn't know about the Pantech (AMOLED is Samsung tech) And I completely agree about using a competitor as a source. I especially find the fact that as soon as HTC started using AMOLED Samsung unveiled Super Amoled....

The #1 reason I won't buy into this: Motorola.

Never been a fan of their phones. I had the DEVOUR and passed that off to my brother (he loves it). When I think of Motorola I don't think of neatly designed phones. Optimus Prime comes into my head, actually. HTC has a crisp, clean cut to their phones which I admire. Not overly bulky, a nice weight to them, and the battery life is far better. I will be sticking with Android and will be sticking to HTC.

Had this been, "The HTC Droid X" I would have put up the extra money to trade my Incredible in.

But now that we have a phone that will no longer produce ALOMED, I think I need a case.

I can NOT ruin this limited edition phone.

Yeah that's good and bad. Cause now we have to take care of these phones like they are last on earth cause if something happens to them we will most likely not get an AMOLED replacement ever again.

Exactly. This business is sales driven, so why on Earth would Verizon encourage people to buy a phone that is out of stock when they can make the money right now with the X? Sell what you can and worry about the rest later
