Droid X or wait?

I've had the iPhone 3g for two years now and my AT&T contract ends on 7/11. I practically live on the road and will be switching to Verizon mainly because the other guys in the van have vzn and it's clear that vzn service is better. That said, i really want an android phone. I've made apps for iPhone but their native language and upload process are not things I want to deal with anymore.

As for what I want in a phone, obviously I want a really nice screen, replaceable batteries, tethering (only need to tether to one device really), high processor speed and lots of storage. A front facing camera would be sweet but it's not a dealbreaker.

I thought originally I'd be getting the N1. Then did research and craved the Droid 1, then did research and craved the incredible, then did research and craved the Droid X.

But now I read about the X having a somewhat low-resolution screen and no FFC and I'm slightly dismayed. Do you all think I should just bite the bullet and get it or wait till the next phone comes along? I'm prepared for a little flaming here but I know you guys might have some better lowdown on what's coming down the road as far as android phones are concerned and I would really appreciate your opinions...
Thanks in advance!

I have two users that were made to switch from an iPhone to Driod. We are talking about die hard fan boys too. They belly ached a lot at first. But once they got it tuned in, and app'ed up, they were blown away. Sure there are some things an iPhone can do better, though its not much. They both now say they would never go back to iPhone. Even if it does come out of VZ or T-Mobile. So your making a wise decision in my book.

As to your question, I would wait if you could. The X comes out only what 4 days your contract ends. Sure it has pluses and minuses compared to other phones. But its a step up from the Droid 1. It will also be the flagship VZ phone until Droid 2 in Aug. My vote is go for it. You will be happy, it will just take some time to adjust and dial it in.

I think he meant if he should get Droid X or wait for a better phone. I am in the same boat, sort of. I have VZW (you won't regret switching!) and am out of contract. I was thisclose to getting the iPhone 4 (I preordered & was in Best Buy all I needed to do was sign my soul to AT&T) but decided against it because of the crappy plans (5000 night &weekend minutes, tiered data plans... REALLY??)

I was also going to pre-order the Droid X but have personally decided to wait.
My reasoning: The Droid X is Verizon's answer to the Sprint Evo 4G, NOT like what some ppl think it is- Verizon's answer to the iPhone. I think that they are developing their answer to the iPhone 4 as we speak and will probably launch it around December. From my experience buying phones from VZW, they tend to bring out the best phones in December (for example the LG Voyager back in its day, Motorola Droid, etc) so I have high hopes for a better lineup than what they currently have, even though the current lineup is still AWESOME!

You can't go wrong with the Droid X, and there is always a better phone in the horizon (VZW may be coming out with 4G phones by summertime 2011) but ultimately it is your decision and you should take into consideration call quality, how much money you're currently spending on your plan, etc. If anything try to sign up for a one year contract if they let you so by this time next year you can get a better phone....

Hope this long-winded post sort of helps! :)

Motorola announced they will be bringing out a 2ghz phone with, and I quote, "every feature technologically possible in a mobile device" by the end of the year. And you can bet it will be on Verizon. I would wait for that. Although if you get the Droid x you get your phone 4-6 months sooner and I'm sure you wont be disappointed. I personally am waiting for lte devices to drop next year, but that is probably longer than you want to wait.

The standard answers to every "Should I wait?" thread apply here as well. Though, in your case, it seems like every new device catches your eye so you've got that working against you. Good luck with making a decision. Since new things seem to grab your attention, I'd recommend avoiding devices with Sense/MotoBlur/etc as that will likely increase the time it takes to release OS updates.

I'm in an entirely different boat since I already have a Droid so I'm not really interested in anything that isn't 4G, dual core, etc. Everything so far is just incremental improvements IMO.

If it were me, I would wait for the X. But waiting on another phone doesn't make much sense, you will wait forever. Will a new better phone come out some time after X, yes. Will it be better than the X, probably. Will it be so significantly better that you be unhappy with the X after this phone comes out, probably not.

In roughly a year or two that statement will no longer be true, but that's true with most phones. They are like computers, they start becoming obsolete very quickly.
