Help Add "we'll" to custom dictionary??

Am I losing my mind, or is it not possible to add words with apostrophes into the custom dictionary?

The key word here is "we'll."

I use that word all the time, and for that word not to be a suggested word when you type "well" is balls-out crazy. Oddly, on plain Android 2.1, if you type "well," the first suggestion you get is "we'll." Yet, on HTC Sense, there is no "we'll." And to make matters worse, you cannot add it!!! Why?

This is just like the "ill" and "I'll" relationship. HTC Sense has "I'll," and in fact, will default to "I'll" if you start a sentence with "ill." But nothing for "well."

Probably the main reason I can't use the stock keyboard. Try Smart Keyboard Pro. It has a fantastic custom dictionary.

If you hold down the letter that has the apostrophe in it, the keyboard will place the apostrophe but not exit the autocorrect word. Do this instead of switching the entire keyboard over to the symbols mode, which does exit the autocorrect word. That way you can add "we'll" to the dictionary.

Another option would be to add any random word, then go into the keyboard settings and change it to "we'll" manually. You can freely edit words in your custom dictionary.

This still won't cause it to suggest "we'll" when you type "well."

No joke, I have tried all of the suggested work-arounds listed in your post and the others above. None of them work for me.

If I start any line of text with "well," the suggested words are as follows:
(well, wells, welled)

If I hit the little down arrow, I get more:
(well-being, well-defined, well-done, well established, well-known, welling, wellness, wellington)

If I click "add word" (or if I go manually through my custom dictionary), I type w-e-, then HOLD "c" for the apostrophe. It shows me the apostrophe, and I can select it, but then nothing comes up in the text field. If I switch the keyboard to symbols, I can hit the apostrophe, but nothing happens.

I use "we'll" about 50 times more than I use "well." But, it has never shown in the suggested text.

On a related note, is there any way that I can customize my dictionary such that if I type "wecll," it will automatically change it to "we'll"? This was an option I had on my Blackberry. I could make custom key entries that would give me a string - i.e., entering "ttyt" would automatically make it into "talk to you tomorrow" or typing "wecll" would automatically give me "we'll."

EDIT: actually, "wecll" is giving me "we'll" as the third option. But, it would still be neat if I could make it auto-default to we'll without any additional button press. Maybe it will start doing that over time, if I keep choosing "we'll."

They are all there but it is based on how often you use one or the other. We'll is the second suggestion on mine. If your not seeing it, hit the arrow next to the suggestions to open the full suggestion menu and select it.

So, in a blank text field (say, gtalk), if you type "well," with no punctuation or capitalization, you get "we'll" as a suggested word? Are you sure? Can you check again to confirm? Are you using the stock keyboard?

That's insane. I honestly don't get the "we'll," even with the exact same text string. I don't know what I need to do to get it.

Thanks for the update, G.
I don't get that either. GrandMasterB is hackin!

Again I'll repeat my suggestion for Smart Keyboard Pro. It has custom text string editing as you mentioned was on your BB. You can make it suggest "Hello good sir" when you type "2" or whatever you want. :p

When I first read your post I figured you were high in the night, so I tried typing "We'll" and it didn't work! SO I backed up and tried again and it didn't work. So I tried typing "Wel" like you would with blackberry and that didn't work so I backed up once more and tried adding it, no go. SO I typed "Well", then hit the arrow and selected the choice "we'll". I kept typing it several more times and re-deleting to make sure it was working as I said and now when I type "well" "we'll" is the second suggested choice as seen in my pic.

So it wouldn't show up as a suggestion until I had used it several times and now its second choice....

But as the OP said, when you hit the down arrow, we still aren't seeing "we'll" in that list of suggestions either.

Just an FYI, I don't think the OP is crazy. I have the exact same problem. I don't remember which word it is right off hand, but it's one with an apostrophe. Every time I need that particular word, it's nowhere to be found. When I try to add it to the dictionary it won't allow me to enter an apostrophe in the word. It's crazy, I thought it was something universal to all Incredibles.

I'm glad I'm not going crazy. But, yea, I think GrandMasterB has some elite version of the Incredible. I did what you did in the past, and just now, and it still doesn't make a difference for me.

Also, based on ttamnedlog's recommendation, I purchased Smart Keyboard Pro and am very happy with it. It is highly customizable, has multiple languages (very big plus), and looks great. Only problem - it lags. I turned off vibration, sounds, and key previews, but it still lags. If I type a string extremely fast, I can be done typing and staring at the screen, and it will be finishing the string on its own!!

Auto-text is a must for stock Android or Sense keyboard.

Sadly this is true. If you find just the right speed to type at (i.e. slowing down just a tad), your results will be better. Combined with increased accuracy from a slightly slower speed, and FAR superior dictionary and custom texts options, your end result is overall considerably faster typing. :)

On the plus side, the developer is aware of the lag and trying to fix it. From reading the forums on his site, it seems that only Sense phones experience the lag. Those running stock Android have no complaints of lag. Guess we could root? Or wait for him to figure out a fix.

I typed "wecll" 16 times in an open txt field and each time went and selected "we'll".. at first it was the fifth option and by the end it automatically changed it to we'll :) its a decent fix

FYI, "weell" also produces "we'll." I don't know how many times I had to train the Inc before it learned to give me "we'll" as a first choice. But, anyway, I think "weell" is marginally easier to type than "wecll."
