How to save $$'s on your EVO plan

Hi everyone. I'm brand spanking new here but have been hawking these boards for info on the EVO 4G as research. Great stuff here! I ordered my EVO 4G's today as part of my Sprint upgrade. Of course they are sold out and on a waiting list.

Here's some things I learned that hopefully can save some $$'s for anyone getting ready to purchase OR anyone who is eligible after their purchase for more special discounts.

1) If you deal directly with Sprint customer service ( *2 on your phone ) you get a better deal than the store can offer. Basically they waived an entire month's service fee (for me that's $129.95) as their 'concession'. The stores aren't allowed to do that (but may have authorization to waive up to $70).

2) If you belong to a credit union you can get 10% off your monthly plan. I confirmed this with Sprint just 30 minutes ago. So, I have 2 EVO's coming and doing unlimited plan on both. This will same me about $500 over the 2 years. Couple that with the $130 free monthly service and we're talking some serious cash of $630 during the contract. Nothing to sneeze at, eh?

3) Sprint customer service didn't require I order the phones with them. I was told I could go to the Sprint store near me, order the phones and when they arrived I could call customer service FROM THE STORE and they would handle all the perks and discounts right from there. Basically bypassing the store's parameters and just using them for delivery and activation. Otherwise, the customer service dept. couldn't say when phones would be available. And, that the stores get shipments regularly and would most likely have them much sooner. Plus, saves shipping time on top of that.

There's also a wide variety of other corporate discounts available if you happen to be an employee of a big company, a student ,etc. VERY WORTHWHILE to check out.

In dealing with customer service the price of the phone was the same but the special offers are much different. EVEN IF YOU HAVE ALREADY PURCHASED YOUR PHONE you are still eligible for the special offers for the free month of service AND the discounted plan costs.

Hope this helps some of you out!

I went to a newly opened Sprint store and they gave me a 25% discount on my bill for life of contract - which includes the $10 4G fee.

It's nice to be paying $68 total with tax for my plan :)

And was that a special offer they were promoting? My local stores didn't have anything remotely close to that.

Apparently weren't offering it to everyone. I called them and said I wanted the phone, but that I had a choice between them and paying the $300 - $100 price, or going to Best Buy and getting it for $200 off the bat, so they offered me that deal.

i bet it does discount that fee. my 25% doesnt discount off that fee

I've spoken with the sales rep and managers several times since then, and they've confirmed it includes the 4G fee.

Wow, that's crazy. I called the store also about the Best Buy offer and they said the difference was that Best Buy charges the activation fee and a surcharge whereas the Sprint stores do not. The $100 rebate was a direct deal between HTC and Best Buy which is how they pulled that off. What city are you in that the Sprint store was able to do that? Seriously, i've not talked to one Sprint store sales person that was able to do squat.

Wow, I would've taken that in a heartbeat. My Sprint store was not offering that either. Ofcourse they were extremely busy with a long waiting list for the EVO. Why offer a discount?

nope discounts do not apply on insurance, or Evo 4G $10

Don't know what to tell you. I went in and asked and they said yes, in store special only. I spoke with the manager and he confirmed.

I called Sprint a few weeks later and they said it was something only that store was offering, that Sprint corporate couldn't offer it. I went back to the store and they confirmed again.

So ... after they've confirmed this for me several times over several weeks, I have to disagree with you.

Your bill runs through "Sprint Corporate" not the third party store that gave you the discount. The % will not apply to the $10. Sounds like that store didn't know what they were talking about.....

Also if you want to confirm this call sprint and ask which employer discount (EVP) you are getting ;)

I'm not trying to argue I just don't want people getting the wrong idea.
