It looks like droiddoes.com now shows the Droid X @ $199 straight up?

I remember seeing them listing it as $199, (with $100 mail in rebate) or something along those lines a few days ago.

I hope so, I had a sales rep run my credit, and setup my monthly plan with added corp discount, everything is ready to go as soon as i call and give them my credit card we are in business and pulling out of ATT.

BUT, I cant really afford to buy 2 Droid x's for $600 out the door and wait weeks or months for the other $200 to finally come back to me, With Best buy I can just walk in and buy the phones for $199 total no rebate, But I dont want them to run my credit AGAIN since verizon already did it...

Wait so if I ordered online with my verizonwireless telesales girl I should NOT have to deal with the MIR? If so that would be great,

I really would like to work with this sales lady since she has been bending over backwards for me here. and I dont want anyone running my credit again since everything with her is ready to roll.

there are no mail in rebates when you order online.
with next day shipping, i dont understand why anyone would go in-store and deal with the MIR

I think it would have to do with getting your phone now instead of tomorrow especially if you are going to be working. Also for some the extra hundred dollars isn't really that big of a deal. Not saying this for everybody.

I know I never worry about the 100 bucks, I really don't think about it until I get it back then I deposit it back into the bank account, once again I know everyone isn't like that.

The only time I order it online is if that is the only way I know I can pre-order it.

I can't understand why they do that at all. If I can get instant rebate online why not in store. It's the same f'en company and then you get the rebate from VW. It's all just a shell game. I guess they want to drive business to online.

Because with Verizon if you order online if anything goes wrong with your phone or you need your contacts switched over you have to pay money in store to get it done because you went through online. Online means you go through online for everything unless you want to pay out of pocket in store. Your MIR is automatically taken online so you still deal with it. Also if you do it in store the MIR only takes like two or three weeks to get back to you in the form of a debit card. This was all told to me by the store manager of my local Verizon. In store is just better in my opinion. No waiting and everything is set up there and you get help setting everything up, email and what not, there instead of dealing with someone over the phone.

Because with mail in rebates they are hoping people forget or just dont want to go through the hassle to mail it in aka they save money if people do not send them in

Don't know if this is true but I have heard one of the reasons they do this is because a lot of people don't do the rebates. IDK how true this is but I am sure a lot of people don't do it.

I've seen a few research reports stating that in general, 70% of people do not send in rebates. Not just for cell phones but for anything that involves rebates.
Some people thought it was too much hassle, some forget about it, some miss the deadline etc.

Manufacturers and retailers depend on this 70% to make money.

Last time I checked on the official site you can get a rebate with a 2 yr contract. They leave the rebate in store rebate up to the individual to send in unlike online when it's done automatically. So it's on the customer to send it in with the in store rebate but it's not hard.

Before I updated myself to smartphones, I always ordered phones online. I never once went into the store and had to pay for anything. When you buy a phone from them online, you get the same service as you would in store. They don't consider you a different customer or anything than if you were to purchase in store.

Also, I don't understand why anyone would purchase via the store just because you get it when the phone is released and without the MIR.

Wait you can put your payment on the bill? Please go in detail about this because I cannot fully pay up the phone (retail) so I'm wondering if this is possible.

When I went through the process it asked me if I wanted to pay now or put it on my next months Verizon bill. I chose the bill and when the next bill came out it was on there, I am not sure if you can do it over several months though.

Well I'm calling tomorrow to double check a few things so I'll check that out. I think you get the MIR. I think I prefer to go in store just to make sure everything is workin and okay.

This is how I see it.

Store Benefits
  • Definitely easier to interact in person
  • Convenience to go whenever you can to buy it

Online Benefits
  • Depending if they choose to allow preorders, shipped and delivered on the release date
  • Can activate at the comfort of your own home
  • No mail in rebate

That's all I can think of at the moment due to me being sleep deprived. :p

There's definitely still a $100 MIR if you buy from a store? Only reason I want to go in is because our phone situation is a little complicated and I want to get things sorted out in person.

Yeah. If you look online at any phone that says "After $100 MIR", but when you purchase it, it's waived. However, if you go to the store and purchase the phone, you will be given a MIR to do.

I have always bought my phones in-store, and I'll tell you why. The $100 mail in rebate is not a big deal one way or the other. Since the charges are applied to the bill, many times I have the rebate before the bill comes due. Before you say that the rebate comes in a gift card, you can go online when you get the card and request a check. I ususally get the gift card in 2-3 weeks, and the the check comes approximately 1 week later.

Anyway, back to my reasons for dealing in-store. I can physically see the phone before I leave the store. i.e. no scratches or cracks, bent this or that, and everything that's supposed to be is in the box. The CSR activates the phone, and I make a call with it before I leave and have my wife call me to make sure it can make & receive calls. The CSR transfers my contacts and I check to make sure they're there. Also, all cases, covers, screen protectors, car chargers, etc. are correct and have correct connectors. Next, when the CSR prints out the receipt, it shows the plan I want, it shows the add-ons I want, (visual voice-mail for example) and the correct corporate discounts we're entitled to. And last but not least, I have my phone in hand and don't have to wait 'til tomorrow, or more if there's a weekend coming up. This last one is not really that important cuz I'm a pretty laid-back guy and don't mind waiting if required. (which you knew because I already told you I didn't mind waiting for the rebate)

Now I'm sure that most who order online have no problems what-so-ever, and I'm glad this is so, but I'm just telling you my reasons for wanting to deal face to face with a person in the store who can make corrections immediately. (if not sooner)

I just thought of something that's a little off topic but it boggles my mind that Verizon does this. When people order the incredible and it's back ordered, Verizon charges their credit card immediately! Nobody, but NOBODY, does this. When you order something online (Amazon for example) even if the product is not backordered they don't charge your credit card until they ship it. Even if you request that Verizon put the Incredible order on your bill, they do so right away. With the length of time the backorders are taking, some may get the bill in the mail with the Incredible on it and be asked to pay before the phone arrives via FedEx. I swear, they'd have to unscrew me from the cealing if they did that to me! (This from a laid back guy who doesn't care much about the MIB. Don't get me wrong though, I will always apply for and get my rebate. I do care that much, haha! After all $100 is a hundred bucks!)

Good luck everyone, sorry this was so long, just got started and couldn't stop,

While many don't bother with small rebates when they start getting up there (100.00) most do in fact send them in. I can't imagine that's really their reason. I'm sure they make out a little but....

That's the reason for smaller rebates but large rebates generally get sent in. Even rich people don't throw 100.00 out the window. If that was the case then why not do it with mail order also. It's just BS and meant to drive business to the online division IMO.It sucks just sell the phone for 199.00 and be done with it!
