Galaxy S tomorrow!

My Galaxy S is arriving tomorrow and I must say I can't wait, but, my enthusiasm and excitement is being rained on by this nagging feeling that I should have bought the Dell Streak.

Time will tell I guess!

Your thoughts?

Hey. Your in the same boat as me... I can't wait to get my phone.. it is going to be here in 10 hours or so....

I wanted a Dell Streak but it is too big to carry in my pocket.... but I think the Galaxy will live up to its hype :) :p

I don't doubt that the phone will be a stunner in every respect, I'm more concerned about the lack of support from Samsung in the future regarding updates and if I'm honest, I'm just not sure if it's the better of the two for me.

I've got 7 days to return it though if i don't like it so i'll play with it for a week just to be sure ;):p

EDIT: Like you i'm counting the hours! :D

I've got the tracking info refreshing even tho I know it wont be here until the morning

Samsung was the first company to upgrade one of their phones to Android 2.1 if I recall correctly. The problems with the i7500 was that Google didn't allow the upgrade on that due to that it had insufficient RAM, so it wasn't up to Samsung. Samsung will also release a new firmware for the Galaxy S soon (it has already leaked) so I don't see much risk there.

If the Dell Streak is better for you or not is of course something only you can know. I'm not interested in a screen that's 5" right now, nor a backlit display, so I'm probably not the right person to talk bout that.

Have fun with your phone, however long you decide to keep it. :)

Finally got it...

Had to wait for nearly 9 hours from the time I lept out of bed thinking the phone was coming in the morning... the delivery guys love toying with you when your waiting for something... so yeah it came in the afternoon.

screen is amazing! well I knew that before getting the phone but you need to see it to believe it...

phone is super fast!

rooted straight away and yeah it is just amazing!

SETCPU works so it is faster than it is out of the box... some memory tweaks make it even snappier...

Touchwiz (something I was weary of before getting the phone as I am a Sense UI 'fanboy' ) does not get in my way... but when custom roms arrive we can redesign the icons etc...but they still look good... nice layout etc

10/10 A++++++++++++++++++++

oMg I'm in love ! lool :p

Glad it finally arrived for you, I hate the wait and uncertainty when a delivery is due.

I've not rooted yet - I'm seeing how I get on with things as they are out of the box; so far so good.
Took me a while to work out how to get swype up (note to self: read the manual!) But this input method has blown me away, it's so accurate!
Finding lots more I like about the device as I go but much of that could be down to android rather than samsung. I'm going to pop down to the carphone wh*rehouse tomorrow and compare it to the streak (hardware anyway) I'm sure they'll both get 2.2 so it's only really about the size and weight. Hard to weigh the streak when it's bolted to a table though!

Edit, written on the galaxy s using swype...it was not as pleasant an experience as I was expecting

That's not so strange, is it? Google will of course set technical requirements so there won't be phones out there that provide a terrible Android experience with a given version.

Samsungs mistake was first to only put 192 MB RAM in the i7500, and secondly to say that they would upgrade it to 2.1 since that was obviously not authorized. They should have handled it better but they weren't the ones that could decide if the phone could be upgraded or not.
